The nearest charity shop to me is a Sue Ryder one and one of my relatives is deputy manageress, she's a real madam. The prices are pretty high and I have certain other charity shops I buy from mainly books which are much cheaper but I have had a few bargains recently, some lovely M & S skirts for £2.95 each which have set me up for winter time.

Will be having a look at others when I go out in the car and can get to them in time, so many close at 4pm here so I miss them as I am not usually out till late afternoon. I want to get stocked up on books for the winter.

I hate to think how little some shops pass on, and have often told staff that items they are selling at a relatively high cost can be purchased in Primark or our local QD stores for much less.

Morning ...:)

Just a quickie, l have just spoken to the area manager, have'nt time to tell you all now but the M&S situation at that Oxfam shop really should not be happening....unless you have and who ever told you have your wires crossed....we were wondering if they thought you ment what was in the bag of clothes?? you only get a voucher if there are M&S items in the bag!!

Ok must go, off out in half hr and not even showered:((( lol

I was wondering if it is because all of Oxfam's donations must be turned into money whereas some of the Sally Ann clothes can be passed on directly to people who need them.

They are, after all, two very different charities.

Another quickie...

l have just spoken to the manager (l think) of the said store....they are an Oxfam Book shop, they will take bags containg M&S items and give you a voucher, but any other items go another charity shop, mainly the one opposite them...because they don't sell clothing items ,only books!! M&S items are collected as and when books are delivered or taken away.
Thats makes sense now:)

out now

I have googled it Jude and it does appear they do not sell clothes any more. When I rang the shop to enquire if OH had got it wrong, she certainly did not say they no longer sold clothes. However they did take the sack of clothes off him during the summer. The assistant did check all clothes - none were M & S but she did comment on the nice summer safari trouser suit!!! She certainly did not send him off to another shop.

Puzzle sorted but it does seem strange.

Hiya....

l'm in now..

The manager took the stuff to the other charity shops, she said there is is a Salvation Army opposite. She did'nt tell me they only sold books at first, it was when the penny dropped l lasked her.

The area manager aslo said about the %'s...

81% of monies goes to the charity, to the needy.
10 % to admin, can't remember the other 9% and for the last 8 years Oxfam has been the top Charity shop....so thats not too bad is it:)

If people have quiries they can always ring their Support shop number which is an 0800 number.
