Nelson as in Mandela. Strong and black and amazing.

My Namibian mate(he is Owambo) thought it great that my black tom was called Idi after Mr Amin so I thought I might call any other black cat I have after their president.
Ifekapunya Pohamba because I fancy calling that at the back door.

It is actually more likely to be called after the first president Sam Nujoma, or even just Owambo.

Does his name have to relate to his colour?

How about Mac after Macavity - The Mystery Cat by T.S. Eliot? It is such a wonderful poem and a great favourite of mine thanks to a wonderful teacher when I was ten.

Our black moggy was Kizzy.
He was a very independent outdoor cat that deigned to come home for food and a sleep then went off out again for all night roams after giving Mirabelle, our British shorthair ,a quick swipe just to let her know HE was boss.

Snap !! Marilyn i missed your post .
Our Kizzy though was a boy adopted from our daughter who couldn't take him with her when she moved in with her now hubby because he is severely allergic to cat fur/dander
