Whenever I'm on the computer hubby says "talking to your dead people again"? Tee hee , I think he thinks I e.mail them or something. Sad thing is, I would if I thought they'd answer me!!!!

Just the other day, I said to hubby - "the next time we're home (UK) d'you think we'll have the time to pop down to Wiltshire for the day, there's a village I'd like to see".
Hubby's response - "Bet this has something to do with dead people. OK then, as long as there's a pub".

Karen, I thought that I was the only one whose husband says " Bridget is talking to dead people again" They are not related are they?????

my grandfathers family all came from Mere in Wilts, he was the first one to be born in London

Bridget - hah!! well I suppose we're ALL related in some way!

My reason for wanting to visit Alderbury in Wilts, is that I found 2 London rellies, a married couple, there as visitors in the 1861 census. Since their children were still in London staying with grandma, I knew there must be a story lurking.
Having now unravelled the mystery, and discovered an extra couple of 'new' dead rellies into the bargain, I'd really like to visit Alderbury, especially as the school house, which features strongly in my story, is still there.

Yes I am all of these. When I first started all I knew was my dad said we came from Mary Tavy, turns out not quite right, but about 3 miles away. Now all my family say 'Nan is doing her Mary Tavy ' again lol

lol im not gonna let my family see this top ten i get enough stick about talking about family tree.

I was once at my sister my mum had come up and my OH was in the kitchen with them . I came in said something about family tree and they all fell about laughing unbeknown to me they had said how long before Rob say's something about family tree or JFK.

Just been to a local cemetery today, took:
1. camera
2.paper
3.pen
4.spare pair of shoes (sensible ones for walking on wet ground)
5. and saddest of all, a brush (you need the brush to clear all the debris off the common graves which are usually flat on the ground so that you can read any inscriptions)
So if you spot a woman in a graveyard sweeping up, it's me !!!

I seem to fit most of those characteristics too.
and Id like to add that I dream about looking for ancestors too.

but there are SOME things I wont admit to.
its not unusual to be ....obsessed is it, or to solve problems in our sleep.

Another sign of addiction...when you book leave from work to coincide with good grave hunting weather (not too hot or cold) and your OH says...not again....how many dead people can you be related to!...or he says hmmm I guess I will have to navigate again (relating to a few occasions where I have not been able to follow a map and ended up at the incorrect end and wondering after an hour why I can't work anything out!

I was off work yesterday and tried in vain to find the graveyard I wanted, although I knew I was close. I'm off again today (good weather forecast) and have asked hubby for directions without letting on about yesterday. With regards to the brush, I forgot to mention, it has to be a small one which fits in your bag, then when nobody is looking, you can whip it out and clean up!
You wouldn't want people thinking you were crazy would you? ;-)

I can identify with most of those top 10 signs,and family members' eyes glazing over the minute you start to discuss the strange thing you've just found out about a dead rellie.

We were coming home from the airport recently,when we passed through a suburb where OH's Great Grandfather lived,so I had to (almost) beg OH to make a detour to his house as I just happened to remember the address where he lived.Luckily the original house was still standing,so we were able to take a photo,and then we were on our way.I have plans to visit a few cemeteries too,which just happen to be on the way to some of the towns that we go through at times on our holidays,sad, isn't it??

Not sad in the least. No no no.....

And as for carrying the small brush that fits in your handbag....pah!! I don't care who see me when I go 'on a mission' to churchyards etc because along with the small brush, spare shoes, the pen/paper etc, I take a bag containing sheers and a couple of old cloths (for tidying up the graves, usually just the ones i want to photograph, or any which 'belong' to my family) and a couple of old carrier bags for any debris!!

Oh, and yes, I dream about dead rellies, graves, census returns, bmd's etc, the lot!!!
