Sue In Yorkshire. Report 15 Aug 2011 12:48

Gold is worth £1,064-14 and ounce that is for 9ct

,,weigh the earings and you will get a rough idea of how much you could get for them from a Jewellers that is buying gold.

I took a few broken 9ct rings/earings to sell at a well known jewellers where I live and I got nearly a £100 for them.

TeresaW Report 15 Aug 2011 12:57

Dont' sell them through the postal sites, you won't get the full value. Take them to your local jewellers. They will give you a far better value than those postal sites ever will.

Vera2010 Report 15 Aug 2011 14:54

You may get more as scrap gold rather than selling them as retail.
Depends on the weight but gold prices are very high at the moment.
You need to find a good dealer.

I was shocked when I sold a few bits of broken jewellery for nearly £600. Then my son brought some over that was valued at £265 in Surrey , he got £685 Even two lightweight earrings went for £118. So shop around I've found independent jewellers that have been in business a long time are offering best prices. My one only makes between 8% and 10% profit

Nannylicious Report 16 Aug 2011 00:26

Lady Cutie: You had a lot more sense than our previous Prime Minister Gordon Brown who sold off our gold reserves for less than half of what they were worth. Now the country's barely got two halfpennies to rub together.

I heard the other day on the radio that even silver is making a good price. Apparently there will be less silver around in future to make jewellery and I assume that applies to gold as well, as people are hoarding it, so later on jewellery will be very expensive. I think I have got that right, not feeling very withit right now.

This is what the Royal Mint have to say on their Q & A page, ref: selling gold or having it valued....

"We find that in many instances it is better for members of the public to approach a reputable coin dealer who should be able to provide a valuation. The Royal Mint does not value coins, but it should be possible for you to locate a coin dealer by contacting the British Numismatic Trade Association.
You can visit their website at www.bnta.net"
