Yes and I remembered it was a site and I learnt to switch my screen off and get back to my real life.

I'm not a fan of using the term *bully* when describing online issues.

True bullying is relentless and unavoidable...and imho is bandied around far too liberally..which is an insult to those that are being bullied in the true sense of the word.

there is an off switch on a computer that one can use...as opposed to real life where you HAVE to attend a place of work/school.

One afternoon I was 'harassed' by a series of highly unpleasant messages on this site. I didn't feel 'bullied' because I cared very little about what this person thought of me and their attempts were pathetic. One phrase comes to mind......"as popular as polio". Can anyone truly be upset by such infantile comments - and the person couldn't spell properly either :-D

Nastiness, viciousness, drunken abuse, back stabbing, harrassment by message because I wouldn't roll over and agree, criticism of my life style (or my 'non-lifestyle' lol), being called a dried up spinster (or alternatively a bit of a slapper),
being called a neglectful mother ( or alternately a smothering mother)...and etc lol

But bullied ? no...'they' can only bully you if you believe that you are what they say...and I seem ( for a shy, quiet person) to have enough ego not to let the b*******s win ;-)

But yes I have been upset...that people who don't know me at all have been like that with me...but then I looked at what they were, and decided that their vitriol was down to their inadequacies...not mine :-D

My favourite phrase at the moment is one that would fit the persons described above lol

"Thick as a ditch" :-D

yes fair comment muffy.but its really not nice when you get shot down for a comment that you post,of course this is not real life, and what hayley said rings true, but a debate invites people to voice their opinions, and because we are all different,we have different opinions, people get so nasty when they dont like your opinion.x :-D

SheilaSomerset Report 14 Aug 2011 23:01

I agree with Muffy - bullying is a word (along with a few others) that is used far too much these days.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 14 Aug 2011 23:07

Waves to Hayley <3 Nice to see you back, lady.

Suzanne - that's not bullying just someone not playing fair. Everyone's entitled to an opinion and I think it's unfair to citicise someone for having one. Keep on contributing to debates because your contribultions are as valuable as anyone elses and don't worry too much about it.

Suzanne Report 14 Aug 2011 23:20

sue maid.
yes ive already said that when you start a debate you must expect several different opinions because we are all different and dont think the same way.
but what im talking about is people who shoot you down in a dramatic way because they dont agree with your post, and then the horrible pms you receive afterwards, ive had several over the yrs,and they are all really hurtful.
but wouldnt it be a boring world if we all thought the same way.x

Thing is, if you've ever been bullied in real life - or feel that you have - then that sort of behaviour on here or on any other website will bring those memories back. Maybe that's what happens?

I know a couple of people in the real world who get really upset when anyone disagrees with them about anything ... they take everything so personally. There I am thinking that we are brainstorming, or sorting out the details of something but no, there they are getting all whimpery. And I am NOT a bully so maybe some people are just a bit hyper-sensitive as well?

If the worst comes to the worst just ask GR to block that member from messaging you so you won't get any nasty PMs.

Hi Suzanne

But the eejits on here can't hurt you ... it's like sticks and stones. We can always set Hayley onto them anyway!!!

Just get the PMs blocked. That'll spoil their fun!

One can only be bullied if one thinks one is.

me?......I just laugh and let them get on with it......being shot down?.....One could say that any time that someone else disagrees.....When you have been on here a few years.....being shot down is just part and parcel of a debate.....But in all.....One can only be a victim if one allows oneself to be.....

Sheesh....all these ones :-D

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 15 Aug 2011 03:57

NO i havent
you can only be bullied if you allow your self to be
i am way to strong a person to care
what some nutter behind a key board thinks
report the pms and have that person blocked

like hayley i can turn off and go back to the real world
hayleys right also we sometimes have diffrent opinions but
we are friends and true friends can disagree without falling out

wouldnt it be boring if we all thought the same
and the good people on here way out number the bad :-D :-D
