Harry

Harry Report 20 Jun 2011 11:04

My good lady and myself got married in that glorious summer of 1959. We never thought we'd live to see the year 2000, let alone still be married.

Not seeking congtatulations - my wife(now 80) deserves that and more for putting up with my sense of humour, but just wonder if it is pure luck, or the tortoise catching up with the hare.

Neither of us would give tuppence for the high life and meandering in the slow lane suits us down to the ground.

General observations welcome.

Of course you need congratulations Harry. And commiserstions to your long suffering wife as well.

We are not far behind you, we got married in 1960, I wonder how many of present day marriages will last as long? Although i am sure that many will, it is only the ones that break up thatw e hear about.

Many congratulations to you both.
I was just thinking about weddings in days gone by, as my neighbour's daughter is getting married in a fortnights time. In your day, as in mine, there was just the ceremony to sort out, the bun fight afterwards, the flowers and the taxis.
Nowadays, as with our neighbours daughter, they have to sort out a hen do, at least an overnight stop plus a theme if not a week in Prague or Spain. The same for the stag do. The men in hired wedding gear, a meal after the wedding not forgetting another buffet for the evening when the other guests who don't come to the wedding ceremony...which in turn means two lots of invitations..a DJ to keep everyone happy....need I go on ...lol- jl

Thank you all. Your posts make lovely reading.

As a sign of how things have changed, our wedding was recorded on Kodak 8mm cine film. We had it updated to VHS, and then to DVD. Where next?

My wife liked the original as she could run it backwards and end up single again. I joke (I think).

Happy days

Congratulations, Harry and Mrs Harry. I think you are right, a not to hectic life goes a long way towards keeping couples together. We married in 1955 a time of some austerity which meant you could not afford big splashy weddings and a busy nightlife was out of the question. Pictures once a week and no foreign holidays or binge drinking!
