I was always on continuous until a couple of years ago when there was problems paying via Maestro, gave the cash to my son and he paid via his Paypall account. He paid last year ,aswell, £9.95 for year.

Not sure if I paid my son though !. Think I will write it off against the many "can I borrow £10's until payday" from his teens. lol

No discount though, will see what Juky brings.

And on the original question ...

The other day, SylviaInCanada reported that exactly this kept happening to her.

Her membership is single, and it is constantly changed to continuous without her consent.

T in Middx - are you really paying 9.95 a month? That's very expensive considering I paid 7.95 for 12 months.

There is a wide variation and it's annoying but I certainly wouldn't be paying 9.95 a month.

Hi

as Janey said, I like to be on Single membership, not Continuous

but I have to check about every 6 months because it does seem to change of its own accord to Continuous.

I think that is what GR prefers, because it gives THEM control. They know they can get the money from your credit card, whereas you might forget on Single.

Not that you can forget actually, because they do send reminders!

It seems to me that there are several different payment amounts because of the way they brought in the change some years ago.

I can't remember what I first paid (ie, whether it was £5), I know it was £7.50, then it went to £9.95 ................ and those amounts were for 12 months.

Then they made major changes (??2007), and included in that was a change to 6 month membership. Every new member had to sign up for 6 months for £9.95 ...... but all the "old" members were grandfathered into 12 months for £9.95

And that has lasted, so long as you did not break your membership, by not renewing within 28 days OR by upgrading to Gold then wanting to drop back again to Standard.

I think they knew thta there would ahve been a major revolution by "old" members if the subscription had doubled in one go!

Brightsolid announced last year, after they officially took over GR, that there would be a 20% discount for all members renewing. Assurances were given that this would not apply only to those renewing within a short period of time.

My subscription is due next month, so I'm looking forward to hearing what my new sub will be.

The discount wasn't announced until about Ocotber or November, 'cos that is when brightsolid finally got the official go-ahead to buy GR.

so any discount should be offered to you for this June ........ shoudl being the operative word!

Fair or otherwise, Genes Reunited reserves the right to change the amount of the Membership fee and the period which it covers from time to time. Any such changes shall not affect your existing Membership, and shall only take effect at the renewal of such Membership.

I think I,m THICK

WHY ARE YOU PAYING £10.00 PER MONTH?????????

I,M GETTING VERY DISTRESSED THAT YOU ARE SAYING YOU ARE PAYING THAT A MONTH WHEN MOST SEEM TO PAY THAT AMOUNT A YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And can anyone find how much it is to join without subscribing to the records section just for a standard membership ...coz I cant!!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 May 2011 12:11

Mau, the discount of 20% has only been offered this year so you should get it in July.

Reply received from GR regarding the discount

***Thanks for your email. We did introduce a loyalty bonus for a short time, but this has now been phased out. It ended last month, which is why you weren't offered it. I am sorry for any disappointment this causes.***

So unless they offer a new discount in the future, anyone renewing will not get one.

Thank you Det

Soo for anyone in between dates we get nowt! :-(

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 May 2011 15:27

that doesn't seem right, at the very least it should have been retained for 12 months.

Joy

Joy Report 16 May 2011 15:52

I think that the recent discount applied at the time that find my past had a discount for renewal.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 16 May 2011 19:39

Joy

that could be it

but I know people who asked when it was first introduced how long it was going to be offered, because it was unfair for some to be rewarded for loyalty and not others

and they were told not to worry, that everyone would have the chance

well, I suppose we did have the chance of taking advantage ............... if we had renewed 6 months early!
