Amanda2003 Report 29 Mar 2011 10:21

Did anyone watch the first episode yesterday , it is a BBC drama , screened at about 2pm on BBC1 .

It will be shown in five parts I think , one episode each afternoon .

I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to today's episode , can't wait to see the story unfold .

The story jumps between 1931 and 2011 , following the activities of the family that dwell in the house through that time span .

Didn't anybody else watch the programme ?

To be honest I'm surprised it is being shown at such an odd time of day as it seemed better suited to an early evening slot in my opinion .

I seem to remember seeing the trailers for this, when i was home in UK, and I thought, oh goody this is something I'll really like.....oh rats, it's started already and I'm not able to get it here!!
But what a strange time slot? Perhaps they think nobody is going to like it.

I have recorded it and will do the rest and watch in peace when I'm downstairs on my own not being able to sleep, which is most nights.

Karen , sorry to hear you can't get it where you are but as it's the BBC it might well be released on a DVD at some point ?

Chris , I nearly missed the first one as I had an appointment at the hospital , I just remembered in time to record the series ....phew

You'll enjoy watching it in peace and quiet ForeverMystified : )

I only knew it was going to be on yesterday as I saw in mentioned on the " Breakfast " programme , I'm going to view part two this evening when OH is back home , even he enjoyed it and he usually doesn't like " my " type of TV programmes ......lol

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 29 Mar 2011 19:04

It chopped and changed eras a bit much, but I shall stick with it.

There is an interesting programme all this week on BBC1 at 9.15 a.m. about changes this century.

Amanda2003 Report 29 Mar 2011 19:40

I'm pleased to hear that some of you have watched it : ) Glad you liked it Quoy .

It does jump about a bit Gwyn but I think you get used to it after awhile . I like the way it knits the past and now together , I think it's very cleverly written and I'm intrigued by the story line .

Crumbling Cookie ....... I had been thinking that Frank might be the son of the lodger myself . I'm hoping the body in the attic is the crook that robbed the Church , hence the candle stick being chucked in with him ?

Time will tell ........... .

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 29 Mar 2011 22:52

Good isn't it ...... lol

I must say , the cast are all spot on as well . Lots of faces that I've seen in dramas in the past .

I particularly like the small details , like the way Frank always shoves at the front door before he opens it , then you see his Mother doing the same thing back in 1931 , because it has always stuck . The house is really the central character in the story .

I think they will keep us hanging before we find out the truth of the secret in the attic .

I am recording it daily and catching up with it late at night, it's very good when you can keep up with the chopping and changing of eras.

I totally agree with you CrumblingCookie and I thought it didn't seem " finished " at the end , I certainly would like to see a few of the loose ends tied up .
Hats of you the writer and production team .

I'm not reading this thread because there seem to be spoilers !!!!!

But it sounds like something else I can hound No.1 to download so we can watch it here. (the online BBC player doesn't work for us foreigners)

Sadly, there seems to have been a big purge of the BBC things available at not-so-secret places on the net ...

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 1 Apr 2011 21:24

I hope you do manage to get hold of it Janey , I'm sure it will not disappoint you , the way it links the eras together is most clever : )
