Hello Suzanne,

Perfectly normal baby then LOL............I for one am not a fan of some of these health visitors etc.........My daughter had my grandson in 2008 aged 35.........a first time mum. They pushed and pushed her to carry on with the breastfeeding even though things were difficult.........I had to stand on the sidelines and watch, knowing in my heart that baby should have been puttting on more weight than he was, but every week at weigh in they told her things were normal.......normal being he was putting on 2oz?? between visits.........it took a gentle talk from me to persuade her otherwise without appearing to be the interfering mother.......the result was her breaking down in tears "having" to give him a bottle.........in fact she was so tearful I had to do it. Why do these people make new mums feel they are failures.......because that is how she felt. Baby came on in leaps and bounds regarding his weight.

She gave birth to my grandaughter October 1st this year weighing 9/2, and we had the little chat again........she assurred me there was no way she was going through that again, so she fed herself for a few weeks and then went on to formula.......baby weighed last week 16/8....PERFECT!!

It really is very stressful to stand by and watch your very level headed daughter reduced to tears in what I thought could have been avoided.

Enjoy your grandchild!!

hi annwhy do the pro,s do these things?they thought nothing of sending my daughter home from hos two days after having an emergency c section with 30 staples in her stomach and a box of injections to inject her self twice a day,the midwife visited for 10 days and we never saw her again, and my daughter was visited by a health visitor once.they left her for four months and then told her that her baby was underweight, ive never heard such drizzel in my life, mia is a normal healthy baby, very petite and very long.and at 17lbs 4oz not underweight.x

I agree with you Suzanne, my daughter was also sent home with both children after a c/section armed with injections etc. As I said she is a mature level headed person..........teaches secondary school so you have to be tough!

It was a struggle with the first child re the BF......she was also very tender from the OP etc and of course your hormones are all over the place....In my opinion it is far to early sending these first time mums home, especially ones without a partner to lend a helping hand. Although my grandson was well in all areas he was in my opinion under weight, if I could see it why couldnt they!!!!

Mia sounds as if she is a normal healthy baby........gosh and 4 teeth!! your daughter should be very proud.

Brilliant Suzanne - and I bet she's doing fine!!!
I've only just noticed this thread.
My eldest was a week 'late' and weighed just 6lbs 4 ozs - not bad considering I was about 7and a half stone when I 'fell' for her - that was 7 stone of muscle mind you - I was an agricultural labourer, and when not planting/cropping, I was lifting half hundred weights of spuds!
Younger was born two and a half years later, 2 weeks early at 5lbs 12ozs.
Neither lost weight after birth.
Younger was considered a light birth weight.
I diligently took them to be weighed etc.
With the first she was 'doing just fine' - perfect weight (according to their charts)
With the second, there were tuts, and mutterings of 'low birth weight'.
I put up with this for a while, then snapped!
The younger child, after 18 months was actually heavier than the elder had been at that age when 'everything was fine' - yet STILL they tried to insist she was underweight!!!
I took elder daughters weight card along, and when the 'underweight' issue came about, I showed them the elder daughters card.
'Oh' they said in a superior manner,'They've changed the charts since then'.
'So,' I said, 'My perfectly healthy 3 year old must be suffering from malnutrition according to the 'charts'!!
I never bothered going back!

I really dont think mothers should be bothered with charts, after all they are only a guideline, some babys tend to be large and some like mia petite.
shes doing everything a 10m old should do and more, and she really loves her food.so really its no problem if shes a little underweight.although her weight now seems fine. :-D

As long as they are fit well and happy I think you can almost go by instinct. Like everything else in this nanny world they want to do it all by the book and it doesn't work like that.

I had a very old fashioned doctor he hated the Dr spokes of this world and said ...."if a baby is hungry feed it !" if it wants to play ....you play if it wants to sleep ....and so on ....

Never met another doctor like him ...all done by "THE BOOK" now ......I would love to meet the "person" who wrote this book

So Pleased Mia is doing well

Hello Suzanne,

Sounds like Mia is doing really well and all the earlier unnecessary worrying was as it was............fuelled by stupid comments from the so called proffesionals!!

So glad that mum and baby are very happy and content, my grandaughter Alice will be 1 october 1st and weighs just under 20lbs, she also is saying ma ma ba ba and da da waves hands goodbye and gives you a big sloppy kiss!
