Mick from the Bush

Mick from the Bush Report 4 Feb 2011 23:28

As I look down from my hilltop mansion, I see the paddocks all around full of water, and the creeks flowing 100 metres wide! We have been hit by the tail end of cyclone Yasi! And it is still pouring. Some towns nearby have had more than 200 mils of rain overnight. And a couple of days ago we had several serious bushfires! Don't you just love the weather in Australia this year?

Mike, hope you are ok there. It is terrible what is happening in Australia.

...Bet you're glad your mansion is on a hilltop!
It may be nearer the sun, but is further from the water.
Nature is beautiful, but has a frightening side.
Hope you and yours are okay!

I just walked down to the main road- I'm flooded in for the first time since 1992! (although I will probably be able to get through with the 4WD later)
Checked the rain guage- 130 mils last night - the highest one day total I have ever recorded! Crazy weather!

Yes Maggie - the powers still on, but I bought a generator after the bushfires to keep the beer cold in all emergencies!

Mother Nature sure has a bee in her bonnet about something. Australia isn't the only place copping it.

Well - I think I am a captive- I drove down the road towards the Tarago River, but turned back about 2 kms short of the bridge as the water on the road was getting too deep. And I am sure the emergency services people dont need any more idiot sightseers! Dont worry though -I have plenty of beer!

Perhaps we should start building an Ark!!.

Mick, seeing you are in the bush, there must be a few spare trees around?
I have a hammer and nails, ( and a portable bar-bie )and as long as you have plenty of beer to go round it shouldnt take us to long to build it.

Just heard from eldest daughter living in the Dandenong area of Melbourne, and she is standing inside her new house ankle high in water ( unindated )
Her area copped the brunt of last nights Melbourne downpour.

There is still more to come....so we are told.

Tony.

G'day Tony - I think Dandy copped over 150 mils- I only got 130 mils here, but is still the highest one day total I have ever recorded! Just lucky I live on the top of a hill!

I just heard on the news that they are evacuating the Koo Wee Rup Hospital down river from me. And that extra 150 mils of rain forecast for tonight in the northeast is a worry!

G'day Mick.

Yes...not good mate, but just have to grin and bare it?

From what i can gather this is the remnants from the first Cyclone "Anthony".......or so they tell us.
Tail end of Yasi....could be coming a little later?

Eldest daughter was listening to the torrential rain last night while sitting in her lounge room watching tele. Next minute she stood up to look out side window, and felt her carpet was Er'mmm... "Squishy" ( for want of a better word ) under foot. She looked again down at the flooring, and water was pushing up under her floor boards into her house!!!
Next minute she was standing in ankle deep water right throughout her home. Daughter looked out of her window again and saw 2 cars sailing by down her street with no drivers!!!...lol
She rang her BIL ( 1km away )to come help....but they had their own problems, and found they had an instant 3ft deep swimming pool in their back garden and were busily shoving towels and plastic around the doorways into there own home. There own street was flooding.

I know one shouldnt laugh, and in most cases its all very sad.........but as you know, to live in this Country you need a dam good sense of humor to survive mother nature here..

Tony...:>))
