Love it Tony:-))

I was born near Leeds, Gail. I was only 3 when my parents brought me out to Australia. They went back to England a number of times but they said that Aus. was their home. I've been back to England a few times too and I love it but Aus. is my home.

The fires were a worry Sue, no lives lost which we are grateful for, as usual the recovery was swift, amazing what a bit of rain will do. We have since fireproofed our place a bit more. Just a very hot and dry summer does not go well with fire.

Sofala, now that is a place with history, some people we meet are amazing, they touch your life so briefly but leave a lasting impression. I have some distant cousins also born there, during the gold rush. Winter there I could do with out, too much fog, which I do find dismal. My dad was born in Sydney, but once he moved to this area he would only go back for visits, he also learnt to love country life, from an early age as uncles had farms and he would visit them as much as possible.

My mother in-law grew up and married at Leeds, Yorkshire, she went home once and could not get back here fast enough. My youngest hated growing up here, now she is older and wiser she said she cannot understand why she felt that way and comes back as much as she can.

Mmmmmm.......There are varying heats all over this country during summer. But the only way you can tell the difference between hot & hot in Oz, is when you have experienced condensation on your butt from the hot water in the toilet bowl, and the cows are giving evaporated milk.

Lol Stray - you Poms love to talk about the weather:-))

Gail we were up your way last November. It was so hot and not long after we got home you had the bushfires. It was really sad watching the destruction on the news. I was talking to a lovely 84 y.o. man the other day and he told me he was born in Sofala near Bathurst.

Sue it is beautiful and very serene as well, love going on holidays but look forward to coming home.

The OH was talking about moving to the coast when he retires, I let him ramble, then a few days later he said he did not know why he was even thinking about it, as he loves it here so much, just go on more holidays.

We do get the cold also where I live, the lowest we have had is -14 degree Celsius = 6.8 degree Fahrenheit. One year the chickens and pets water bowls had to be emptied of ice every morning, and water carted from inside to refill them, by the end of the week I had a large collection of ice blocks in the yard, so most of us who do not live in the northern states do also know what cold is. Sometimes we also see snow, but mostly frost.

It give me the giggles as well. Then again I suppose they are not used to it either.

Can you imagine what our female ancestors had to put up with heat, flies, snakes and redback spiders on the toilet seat. Long dresses with long sleeves with loads of petticoats and stockings if they had the money. Cooking over an open fire.

Hot is over 40 degree Celsius, 30 is pleasant, as long as no humidity.
