I have a slimline Ariston have had it for 11 years, i dont have any problems with cloudy glasses as long as you keep the salt and rinse aid topped up.
The only disadvantage is you have to put it on more often and it doesn't take so much.

I've never had a problem with glasses either (use an all-in-one tablet) but wouldn't put the posh crystal in there!

I use Fairy tablets in mine and the glasses are clean and shiny after. I also put all the bits in from our gas hob.

Look for one that runs quietly if you are around when it is on and if you have off peek electricity a timer can be useful or you could use the plug in timer type.

Our first slim line was a semi intergrated Bosch put in when we had the kitchen remoddled. Gave 15 years good service with only a couple of breakdowns in its later years. It had about 8 programmes including a pre wash and several economy washes.
The trouble came when it was going to cost too much to repair on its last brakdown so we looked for a new machine. Loads of freestanding ones but I didnt want that as it would stand out like a sore thumb cos all the other appliances are built in and we would have to muck around with plinths etc. We finally paid bega bucks for an intergrated Miele one and I must say the standard is superb we do overnight washes on the cheap rate and have never heard it operate and the glasses are sparkling !! Did cost though whispers!!! £899 .

Hi Marion
We have a slimline
Hotpoint due to cuboard space in kitchen.

Its very good but only problem there are 4 of us so often end up washing in the sink as well.
If you are a smaller family I think slimline is a good idea.
Mother in law has a full size one and there is never enough to fill it up with the two of them. She ends up cleaning the dishes before she puts them in to stop any smells which I think defeats the object a bit! She only puts it on twice a week because its so big. lol

we use ours every night ,When we have visitors or Christmas family get togethers its going several times a day BUT its lovely to load up and walk away knowing you ain't a slave to the kitchen sink . There are some things we dont put into it though like the best crystal glasses ,just in case !!, and some saucepans that are best hand washed. We do though wash the cats bowls but will rinse these under the tap before use , Our old moggy had allergy problems that was attributed to him licking off bowls that had dishwash products dried on them so we are very careful that our girlie doesn't get the same problems

Have to put a spanner in the works, if you are wanting a slimline means you do not have much washing up, I find it quite theraputic to do it by hand. Even though I have a washing machine, still like washing by hand, call me old fashioned, perhaps I have to much time on my hands. lol

Shirley,Ive heard they are the best. but......I'll be happy with a cheaper one lol.
I like the idea of walking away from it :))

Tesesa...One of my sons has a slimline one but they dont use it much. as dil washed all dishes first and its behind their door so not in a good position when you have kids running about.

Carol... you just take your spanner back...I want one lol.
The kitchen is a fair size but to have a big one would mean removing a corner cupboard etc.The cupboards are good strong ones made of real wood. our joiner who fitted it for us about 15yrs ago, told us they are not the same quality now. He didnt know you got slimline ones that will fit under the sink unit. He is going to do the work for us.

Hi Carol.

I'd rather wash than dry.One of my sons uses his to the full, it seem so much quicker to get cleared up and sitting down when at theirs. They seem to put everything but...the kitchen sink in it lol

I had a slimline dishwasher once, but then he put on weight.

I'm not sure if he was possessed of "a variable thurst impeller sprocket and a decarbonising filter on the inlet dispersion valve"

Let me search my memory bank - I'll get back to you...

We have the Fisher and Paykel 2 draw dishwasher at our house. We have lived in this home for 3 years all the appliances were brand new and the house had only just finished being built when we bought it. Its a nice looking stainless steel one too ........... my only problem is that OH won't let me use it. He reckons that as its only 2 of us in the house it doesn't justify the use of it. Everytime I bring up that I want to use it, he says that because its brand new still I shouldn't use it and it would then be "used". OMG. He can't understand how much I hate doing the dishes.

So because I am not allowed to use it, I have now started using it as extra cupboard space in my kitchen to store stuff in LOL

Glad it was useful Marion.

I hand wash as there is no space for a dishwasher in o.h.'s poky kitchen, but I never dry dishes only glass ware, leave the rest to air dry as it's more hygienic.

I do rinse stuff well after it's been in the washing up bowl, as I can't bear bubbles left on stuff, o.h. is hopeless and doesn't rinse things properly so you find a clean plate with a sticky rim - he can't understand that the soap bubbles don't have to overflow the sink, it's just like that in the ads to make you use too much w.up. liquid, and then it stays on the crocks with food residue etc in - urgh! I always have to rinse stuff he has washed up, so easier to do it myself, much as I hate it.
