I don't know whether I'm just postponing the inevitable but the best thing I ever did was to have a Mirena coil fitted.
In late 40's I was marrying again to a man in his 70's He was considering a vasectomy but for 3 weeks out of 4 I was the woman from hell. We were sat in his doctors reception area waiting to talk about vasectomy when I read this article about Mirena coil.
My life was transformed!
No more periods, no more mood swings or hot sweats and no fear of late pregnancy.
Can't praise it highly enough!!!!

Thanks Julie. Yes I know it's not ideal taking medication but it was so I could hardly get out of bed in the morning as I was so tired through lack of sleep due to night sweats. Maybe I'll have to go through it again one day (the sweats) but I have to be honest at the moment I'm just so glad to be sweat free and not so tired! So I'll keep on the old HRT for a while and see how it goes.

Hi ladies, well the tablets seem to be working...no hot flushes almost from day one of taking them! Aches and pains seem not as bad too...

I am often not believed, but I had no problems with the change, I just seemed to sail through.
Consequently I did not need any HRT, but a friend of mine was put on it and her hair started to fall out.... by the handful.
I believe she stopped taking it because of that.

WELL my younger sis was prescribed the pill in the 1970,s she was only on it a few months when she was out shopping and collapsed and was taken to hospital and diagnosed with blood clots! THEY !! said she never have been prescribed due to family history.MY OH said he didnt want me to take the pill cos he thought it wasnt safe with regard to my family health record
She eventually had a tubal ligation

I took HRT for 9 years and felt really well on it, this was before the fear of breast cancer was raised. I had felt really rough before I went on it with panic attacks and flushes etc. I actually came off it when I had a small benign breast cyst. That was over 10 years ago now that I came off it.

hi helen ..... have answered another hrt question on this page but just to add that i too had a hysterectomy and was put on hrt - at first the mood swings and hot flushes weren't too bad but when i got to about 59 i came off the hrt as my then doctor believed in "the natural way" until i arrived at his surgery one morning and just stood in the reception area and burst out crying !! I nearly did him a permanent injury when he was called out and said "oh i see the natural way isn't working" !! So i'm back on the hrt implants which i've mentioned on this page ..... most of my family have started the menopause around 58 or 59 so personally, it was worth my while staying on it and i'm still having the implant every 6 to 9 months (gp just inserts it) ...... good luck !

Joanie Report 11 Jun 2010 21:51

i have the oestrodril implant, pam, so its just slipped under the skin and lasts for 6 to 9 months ...... have been having the implant now for 15 years as i couldn't get on with patches or pills, so when you see the doc ask him about the pellet (it looks just like a piece of ear wax!) Like you i had the hot flushes morning noon and night, took all that away and i don't act like the bride of chucky anymore :-) ...... ps have taken it for a long time as i feel so well on it ! good luck !!

Hi ladies...welcome Little Lost (love the name)
Yes it sounds like you're probably going through the change LL. I didn't have mood swings...I'd beat the crap out of anyone who said I did...hahaha!
I'd pop along to see a doctor all the same.

TG Yes cotton sheets are very good.

Marion, the primrose oil didn't work for me...good though if it works for you.

My doctor advised against HRT, and put me on Dixarit tablets, I can honestly say I never suffered from hot flushes, I dont know if I was lucky or the Dixarit worked.
I always had 100% cotton sheets on the bed, still do, which keep me cool.

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 9 Jun 2010 16:01

Well I'm either lucky or my Evening primrose works wonders. I dont have sweats and I just 'glow' now and again.

Little Lost

Little Lost Report 9 Jun 2010 15:16

I am now 51 and I am convinced that I am 'going through the change'. I have never really had many problems with my periods until recently they have become very painful and very heavy. I could do with a comode once a month..lol
I do suffer from hot flushes and I tend to have panic attacks. I keep meaning to go to a doctor but keep putting it of as I tend to just grin and bear it but my mood swings are becoming unbearable. We dont have a regular doctor at the moment either so thats another reason I keep putting it of.
I do find that if I take travel sickness pills that calms my panic attacks.

Oh Julie I'm so sorry to hear about your poor mum. It must have been just dreadful to loose her like that.
I don't know what else to say, it's just to sad.

Hi Julie, that's awful, I am so sorry you lost your Mum in such a sad way.

HRT is certainly controversial, I just wish I hadn't been prescribed it the first time without a blood test to check whether I was actually menopausal.

Men get it easy don't they, a mere midlife crisis for some and they don't need a chemical for that lol, just a fancy car or new clothes and some Grecian 2000 or whatever it's called lol
