Oh Shirl, what are we going to do with you

ARE YOU READY !!! THEN I WILL BEGIN

Take a pyrex dish, grease with butter.
Butter bread, place in and around dish. Sprinkle with sugar and sultanas, continue buiding bit up in layers. Put the last slices butter side up and sprinkle with sugar. POUR in milk and cream and let it soak into bread. After half hour top up the dish with milk and cream. Bake in the oven till nice and crisp and brown on top. ENJOY WITH MORE CREAM.

Here endeth todays lesson :-D :-D :-D :-D

I finally succumb, and went to the doctors this morning After chekhing by back and chest. She decided to flu was clearing up, and did not give me anything for it. I was awake again this morning from 2,30am coughing and snorting. She was a little Asian Doctor that I haven't seen before and she has been there for TWO YEARS !!!

David, Pleased to see Ralph is getting along O.K. I do think of him from time to time. Hows E, is she liking the new house better now.???

Mel, That will be another job for Mr Mel, this summer. Rebuilding the wall. It just shows what this Ivy does to brickwork. I can't believe these people who have it all up the front of their houses. Hope none of you have.!!!!

Jane the meal sounded quite nice. I can smell the F & C now, and my mouth is watering. !!!

Sorry, I cut off in mid post. Had a SKYPE call from USA. our friends in Miami. Very hot out there, they were just going for a swim 7.45 am Then off to Primart for some shopping. They will be home 2nd March. How the other half live. !!

We have dog trouble, but usually on a nice sunday afternoon, when you are sitting in the garden. I let it go for a little while, then shout down the gardens "SHUT THAT BLOO#Y DOG UP. They then seen to put it in doors :-) :-)

William, You put me to shame, I can't bake cakes. I cook most things, but that's left to Ros
Hope the decorations look good and she likes it. Are you having the family over for the big day.???

Ann, you certainly keep yourself busy with all the different activities you get involved in. Keeps you young. !!

Horrible day here now. It started to rain on my way back from the doctor's and now it's Peeing down, with a very strong wind (NOT LEEK PIE) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Afternoon everyone,

Raining here now ,it started off nice ,i stripped the bed off and even had the sheets blowing on the line for a while, i opened the bedroom windows and gave the room an airing ,it smells really fresh in there now.

Son has been to the doctors this morning ,like you Frank he's been coughing and has a really sore throat, she thought it was a virus and told him to gargle with Paracetamol and swallow it ,and he's to go back if it doesn't seem better by the end of the week.

William , you clever old thing , making and decorating a cake !! i hope we get to see a photo , does your Oh know about it or is it to be a surprise ?
You carn't beat a nice home made cake .

Been shopping today at Morri*on's and Tes*o's ,most of it done at Morri*on's but Tes*o's had a few bits i wanted on offer so i called there too, then i went to the farm to get a tray of eggs , they are nice big ones ,some times we get some double yolkers !!

Going to watch doctors now and do a few rows of the shawl .

William

William Report 22 Feb 2012 15:51

I've just typed a whole load in and lost it! I think I'll resort to 'copy' every so on in future!!

Anyway Hi all, I've probably lost my thread now, literally! Anyway, it looks like the old one of 'Send reinforcements we're going to advance' coming back as 'Send three and fourpence we're going to a dance' has come around to haunt me. What I actually said in my earllier post was -
"Anyway folks, I'm off to put the finishing touches to the decorative top I'm making for my wifes 80th birthday cake for Monday"
So what I've made is the DECORATIVE top, not the cake. sorry to disappoint you all, Jane Asher has nothing to worry about yet. The cake was made by her friend for us at Christmas, it's an iced fruit cake, and this lady is one good cake maker. We had so much food at Christmas that we didn't use it and it's much too big for two of us. So we are stripping the Xmas decs off and using the one I've made.

We had ready made mini pancakes (shop bought) yesterday, heated under the grill and spread with Bailey's cream - mmmmm, yummy.
Carmel asked me for an appropriate Ash Wednesday breakfast, so I did her BURNT TOAST! (apologies to those who have already seen this on my Facebook).

Ann, if you're in Coventry again, the Motor Museum has had a complete re-vamp, and changes all the time in the front exhibition hall. If you need any more info, please let me know.
My wifes name (Carmel) is fairly common in her native Ireland. It comes from 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel'. She was educated by Nuns and always speaks kindly of Sister Albertus. I think there is usually one teacher who is important to your life. We have several young teachers in our family and I always say to them, if you can make a difference to one childs life, your career has been worthwhile.

Well, as you ask there are more on-going Moggy issues, but I'll leave them till another post, or I'll never get this cake dec done!
Catch you all later.

What a horrible day(weather ).I decided to light the fire to cheer the place up.
I have had an afternoon of sorting some drawers. What a load of rubbish was stuffed in them. :-S.I don't even know what some of it is lol

Good to hear you are on the mend Frank, and Mandy lets hope your son's throat clears up.I really hate having a sore throat especially trying to swallow when you know it's going to be agony :-S

Mel we (well Chris ) stripped all the Ivy of our side wall of the house a few years back .It was right up to the roof.I hope your wall doesn't decide to fall down.We have so much Ivy here growing in all sorts of places. It's a real pain.I love pulling it out of the hedge.Find it very satisfying.

I have Meatballs tonight, but have just realised they are Minted Lamb ones and not Beef.I hope they will go alright with the sauce. It's just tough if they don't as there is nothing else lol

I keep hearing a funny noise and have just worked out where it is coming from. It's my mobile phone saying the battery is flat ,so I had better go and get it charging.

Pat ,it must be really unpleasant for you having your jaw like that.I had that problem a while back when I couldn't open wide. One side of the lower jaw was dislocating .I had a bite guard to wear at night which I really think helped. It was to help stop me grinding too.

Right, off to plug that phone in ,before I forget.

William what a good idea using the christmas cake , i made a christmas cake and i think hubby has only had one slice of it !!
We use to have a nun living near us ,should a lovely lady , her name was Sister Benedicta and she was friendly with hubby's sister , she use to ride a bike ,how she did that in her habit without it getting caught in her wheels i'll never know .

Pat it carn't be very pleasant having your jaw out of line like that , was it pulled out of line when you had the tooth out ? hope its not to painful.

We've had some noisy planes about over us all day , it makes you want to duck they seem so low ,i looked out this morning but they were in the cloud , i think they are jets from Marham .

We had pasta tonight with the sauce from one of those jars !! nice and easy .

Ellen is finally on the mend thank you Frank.
The last 2/3 months have seemed an eternity.
She is prone to gastro flu every winter.
Fortunately I get her through it.
This bungalow is much better than the house we left.
But E still hasn't taken to it.
I suspect it's only temporary.
Our former house was an ex council house with council neighbours.

Frank

Frank Report 22 Feb 2012 18:54

Sorry Shirl, You can beat a egg into milk and cream if you want.

William, You had us all thinking you should be on "MASTER CHEF" being able to make and decorate cakes. Just shows how words can mistaken.

Pat. Your jaw must be very painful, you won't be able to do a lot of chin wagging for a while !!!

What a horrible day it has been, wind and rain here since 10 am. Was thinking og going to watch a match on T.V. down the pub, but I think I will pass and spend the evening with by beloved !!!!

Mandy, Where we lived at Gayton it was in the Nene Valley, The planes (U.S.A) would fly down the valley at tree high and Ros wouldn't hear them till they rose up over the house and away. She would jump a mile, and our little dogs would run indoors for cover. We now get the BIG HERCULESE BOMBERS come over from oxfordshire going north east. They only just clear the tree tops but not a lot of noise.

Trust everyone is improving who is on the sick list. Go on sick parade in the morning. Like we did when in the RAF :

Well i always use eggs in my bread and Butter pudding ,it helps it to set , but every one has their own way ,

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 22 Feb 2012 19:02

Frank, they scare the life out of me these planes when they climb then dive back down, i don't think they should do that over a town , we get those big helicopters going over too i think they are at Swanton Morley.

Should be warmer tomorrow , 17degrees !!! soon be time for the shorts again Frank !! :-D

Jane

Jane Report 22 Feb 2012 19:04

Mines a jar of sauce too Mandy. It's too much faff to make the real deal lol and I think the jar is tastier than what I could make.

Those bl**** jets used to scare the life out of Hannah when she was a toddler. They used to fly over our house so low and out of the blue. She would run screaming upstairs to her bedroom and refuse to go back in the garden. We would all be out there and little Hannah could be seen standing at her window looking out(bless).

When I was sorting out those drawers earlier I found a Captain Pugwash book.
Heaven knows where that came from.
Captain Pugwash was the bravest, most handsome pirate on the seven-seas-or that was what he liked to think. But it was lucky for Captian Pugwash that Tom the cabin boy was there to help him when he met the fiercest pirate captain of them all,the terrible.....CUT THROAT JAKE.

Frank those big bomber planes you mentioned.Do they come in 3's.We haven't had them for some time ,but there were always 3 of them.Really low too.Quite something to see just over the tree tops in the garden. Why do they come so low???

One born every minute just starting.I better get ready for some pushing and panting :-D

Evening all. Thanks for the e-mail frank. I am stuck at home today because took my car to the garage yesterday for what I thught would be a couple of things they could do yesterday and they kept it at the garage until Friday to work on it. Its amazing how cut off you feel. If I really wanted to go somewhere I would of got a bus or train but you have all the waiting around to do and they are not very regular service.

William you sound very handy on the cake icing front are you having a party or a bit of a get together for your wife ?

Good idea to use the Chritmas Cake so much of it gets wasted at Christmas.

BFN

Hi Everyone,

Glad to hear Ralph is much better David.......I recall he wasn't in a good place at all a while back, quite a worry for you. Well at least you like the new place so you are halfway there.....E must like not having the stairs or the cleaning of them I would think. Give it time and hopefully as she adds bits and bobs in the bungalow and garden she will grow more attached.

Sorry to hear about your jaw and tooth hole Pat......sometimes I think I will never shut my mouth again the way they make you open so wide, enough to give you a jaw problem anyway!! :-S

Good idea to 'revamp' the christmas cake William.......not reinforcing it for 80 candles I hope or you could be in the doghouse!! Funny you saying about your wife being educated by Nuns as my mum was too. As children, she would have us in stitches at times as she would suddenly break out in singing the hymns/chants she remembered all in Latin....she had no idea what the words meant. I remember her saying they were very strict though. I think a visit to the Coventry Motor Museum since it's refurbishment might be on the cards too now!

Mandy, those jets are absolutely deafening. At my old house just a few miles from here we used to get 2 or 3 fly over from Rutland, probably RAF Cottesmore, and as you say, no matter how you try not to, you can't help but duck a bit! They don't seem to fly here anymore though. On holiday in the Yorkshire dales, they would skim low down the valleys too. I think it is low flight practice......getting under the radar? Don't know really.

When I did bread and butter puddings (a while ago!) I always added an egg......and sometimes put marmalade on the bread too! Eventually I just buttered bread for the top layer and tore the bread up for the rest, mixing in the sultanas and adding a few bits of butter amongst it.....lazy, but it worked and was still nice. :-D It is OH's favourite pud. :-D

FIL's nose is going along nicely now and they did take the nose stitches out, but the ear ones where they took the graft from come out in 10 days. Apparently, MIL and FIL hadn't been following the aftercare cleaning instructions they had been given properly so hopefully it should heal well now! Honestly, they can describe and tell you how many people were waiting, who went in when, whether the appointment was on time, the names of all the staff, but don't listen to the instructions they are given. OH said he had a running commentary all the way there and back of what the traffic was doing and where it was going, the company names on all the vans, shock at seeing a queue of traffic at the carpark! I laughed and said 'country bumpkins' and OH chuckled. He is very patient, well a saint, with them.....and his dad saying things like 'don't let that car in'. 'Come on, hurry up BMW, what's holding the traffic up here' etc! You wouldn't think they were retired!!! lol

Off to bed now, so I can be up early to continue the loft clearing. I sorted 3 more bags for the dog's home today. Night, night xx
