Morning all, what a nice day!
I seem to be first one up on here, probably because I had to put our prescriptions in on line. What a marvelous world we live in, I can do scrips on line, send an email to our pharmacy, they will deliver to the door. If I could get them to graft a usb onto my finger, they could diagnose my problems by computer & I'd never have to leave home!!!
Anyway, just a quicky for Frank. To save me going back through all the posts, did you say it was the 'Belle' steamers your father was on? If so, I've got something of interest I can scan & email through to you.
Brekky time, catch you all later on. Yum yum

Hello everyone. Just popping in and out.
Horrid storm last night, was ready to get under the bed with the cats, truly. It was so loud. Lots of flooding in Sydney and cars being swept away. Our drainage systems can't cope with these downpours. They should be figuring out a way to capture and store all this run-off before it flows into the sea.
I will catch up with posts tomorrow. Have a good day all. 9.33 pm DST

Good tele last night.....enjoyed DOI and The midwives! Not sure about Upstairs Downstairs yet......but I'm sure it will grow on me.

Afternoon all.
My friend came and stayed for the weekend and we had a nice time. Went out for a meal Saturday night at a local Carvery that was very nice. Yesterday we went to a Garden Centre that I do not go to often because it is a bit further out for me but we went yesterdday and my friend bought a water feature for her patio which is very nice.
Then we came home I got some lunch and she then left and went home via some other friends that live in this area.
Weather has been nice but cold so it was nice to get out.
Been to the physio again this moning it was the last one she does not want to see me anymore she just told me to do the exercises that she has giiven me as often as I can.
How is your sister doing Mandy?
You seem to be a lot better now Frank.

Afternoon everyone,
Lovely sunny day here with a bit of a blow so i've hung some washing out ,if it doesn't get dry at least it will have had some air and they will smell fresh.
Kim, you are getting some rough weather ,is it normally like this at this time of year ? i hate storms when they are over head . Hows little puss doing now ?
Fiona , the finished porch looks good ,it blends in well with the house ,have you got much to do inside now ?
Ann, you should have looked in the charity shop they might have had an old jacket or some thing you could have cut the zip out of. i bet a long metal zip would cost quite a bit ,they seem to be all plastic ones now.
Denise , glad you enjoyed your week end with your friend ,nice to get out for a meal with friends . It was Jane's sister that had the op Denise .
Well i'd better get some jobs done , i've turned the heating off and sitting here i've got a bit chilly now so i'd better do some thing to warm up.

Well, I got a zip, but there were only short metal ones on the market, so I went to a little fabric shop run by an Indian lady near where I used to work and she had some bigger ones at £2 each. I had been looking for them in a few charity shops Mandy, but even those are almost all plastic now! They seem to just do trouser zips in metal........I assume so they don't pull open like the nylon ones! :-0 :-0
I didn't do well with parking in the city though. The street parking was 90p for half an hour, so I decided to go in the multi storey. The first pay and display machine I tried was out of order, the next wouldn't accept one of my pound coins, so I pressed the button to cancel and get my money back. I tried it again with a different pound coin ( have to put full car reg in each time) and it decided to 'keep' one of my pound coins!! I tried a 3rd machine which worked ok so it cost me £3.50 for 2 hours!! I did do some other shopping though, otherwise it would have been a very expensive zip. :-S :-S
Thanks for the pics Fiona, they made a good job of your porch. It looks like it was always part of the house! I bet you are itching for the rest inside to be done now.
Sounds like it was an awful storm Kim. We look like having water shortages as they say the reservoirs should be more full than they are......the worst they have been since 1976.
FIL now has an infection in the wound on his nose so is on antibiotics for that and OH has another trip with him to a hospital appointment this Wednesday, about 60 miles for this one. I think they are expecting the stitches to be removed, but I wonder if they will with it being infected now.
Well, it is drizzling and windy here now so I think a bit more sorting out in the bedroom and ensuite.........bathroom cabinet could do with a check of all the dates!!
OH is wallowing in the bath.

These machines certainly know how to swallow up your money Ann, next time it won't take a £1 coin try rubbing it on the casing of the machine, somebody told me to do this and I thought .....can't see how that can help ..... but it does work. It may be worthwhile phoning and asking the hospital if they should go if FIL has an infection before they have to do such a long journey.

Hi All i have been in and out most of the day so have only really now had chance to get on here. Fiona ,your porch looks great. Thanks for the pic.
Denise I think you mean Janice (my sister). She does seem to be improving thanks. She feels much better now she has stopped some of the tablets, but the knee is going to take a very long time. She has Hydrotherapy once a week now as well as physio.
Ann I wouldn't have believed it would be so hard to get a long metal zip.I bet you hope you don't need to get any more of them.I know what you mean about the nylon ones coming apart.I have a couple of things at the moment where that has happened .It blooming annoying :-S I hope your FIL 's nose heals up and the stitches can come out.
It sounds like you had a lovely weekend Denise .It's nice to catch up with old friends.
Mandy it was only sunny early this morning. The rest of the day has been cloudy and a bit chilly.
KIm I hope those storms have cleared away now.Your poor cats.Storms can be quite scary can't they :-S
I'll BBL

Afternoon all,
William before I forget. It was the "ROYAL" steamers my dad was on. I think they were used in Scotland before coming to London.
If you look up GSNC you will see all about them.
I could never get on with the Covertry ring road, the football club had a Rep. who's company had a box at Coventry City, which we had the use of some times. I drove there and another guy who didn't drink drove back. Always got lost.
Jane that's a lot of money for a depostit !!! and RENT on top. My first house only cost me £1,685 in 1960 and that was FREEHOLD. Wish I had had enopugh money to have bought 10.!!!!!
Glad you all had a nice weekend, and did things you wanted to do.
We sat and watched DOI then the recording of Midwives. then sat till midnight watching the recording of Upstairs Downstairs. THEN I turned into a PUMPKIN :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0
Been very cold here today. So haven't ventured out. Ros has been ironing all day, shetts from last week as well as this, plus all the other things. Some of which I wouldn't consider ironing, but then again I'm not a woman.!!!

Frank, unfortunately it's London prices :-S Personally I think it is disgraceful.Hannah sent me some pics of the place and problems which she has sent to the agent and landlord.I have a feeling she won't be staying too long there if things can't be put right.

OK Frank, never mind it was worth a thought about the steamers. I wrote a long piece for Ann today and it disappeared into the ether! That was about Coventry, maybe that's why!!! I find the best way to drive round the Coventry ring-road is with your eyes shut. My late brother, who had driven all over London for years, was absolutely terrified when he had to drive on it. I think it ought to re-named 'The KamiKazi ring road'!
Off to get the chips in the oven, be back later.

Been shopping and it's all put away and I have had my cuppa while catching up with your posts and looking at Fiona's pics of t he new porch. It certainly fits with the rest of the house and so neat and tidy.
Ann I could have looked through mums big bag of zips to see if she had a long one. I know she would cut them off of things way back. How long did you want them??
I did'nt think much of the new Upstairs Downstairs last night either. I was trying to see if the new family were anything to do with the old family in it. Bet they only brought it back because of the success of Downton Abbey. Much rather see that but will watch more and see if it gets better.
I hav'nt seen Call the midwife yet, saved that for tonight.

Just thought I would pop in.
Had an old fashioned favorite tonight. COLD PORK chips and pickle. Ros dosen't like it, so it was a bit of a treat for me. That was always dinner on a Monday when young. Then it was cold "H" bone of beef with a vein of fat running through it. !!!! Oh Happy Days.
Madame,!!! I was fresh out of National Service, when I bought my 1st house. The first one in the family to own his own house. I was earning £13.10 shillings a week. The Mortgage Endowment cost was £13.1.7d a quarter and the interest £13.3.5 a month. And we had to travel to London each and every day of the week. Buy food and cloths. Rates, light heating etc. Thank goodnes my ex was working, till 1963 when she fell for my daughter. Born Jan 64. By May I was struggling to make ends meet on one wage. That when we sold up and moved to Kettering. Sold the House in Essex for £4575. and bought bigger new house in Barton seagrave for £2500. including Central Heating. I could drive to work throught the open countryside, and workink in an office overlooking a small airfield. Was I in CLOVER or what. :-D :-D :-D Oh what a life. !!!!
See you all later
