Afternoon All,

Well we had to scrape before we went out this morning, but all melted and just dull now. :-( I took a top back to M*S and had a mooch around a few shops, but for some reason my knees seem more clicky and twingy today as does the poor old toe I once had gout in so I came home......poor old thing!!

moneysupermarket.com is a good site to find pet insurance Pat, but as a lot of breeders include a free month's insurance it might be worth asking them first.

Well I settled down to watch the DOI I had recorded last night and managed to delete it! Then I thought I'd watch Mystery Diagnosis I had recorded and managed to change that to 'copy' which is to record on a player. Thought I'd use the 'lock/unlock' button to cancel that and a padlock appeared. Then I pressed the button again thinking it would unlock it, but no, it wanted the pin number then. Couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to find it so had a read instead. lol I will have to watch it on the iplayer now.

OH was looking at the list of things the teacher gave us for next week's jewellery class. He started sniggering so I asked what he had seen. 'It says here to bring your old charms' he said, 'and I was trying to think if you have any'.!!! lol :-0 The cheeky bounder!! I told him he won't be getting to see my new charms either at this rate!! lol :-D

Hi everybody and Happy Birthday to Chris (belated that is) didn't get on here yesterday. The reason being our grandson came over to help me get a load of stuff out of the loft. Blimey, wot a job (Cockney talk LOL). I can't believe what we stuff into lofts thinking we'll ever need it again. There were odd rolls of wallpaper, old bits of carpet offcuts, underlay, old picture frames. Oh, and a couple of old framed water colours that must have been painted circa 1910. There were lots of mugs, china wear etc and other long forgotten bits and bobs.
We then sorted them out into various 'lots', charity shop - which I've taken along today. There were some valuable Wade mugs etc, which I've asked grandson to put on Ebay, he's very good at that - he''ll get his 'cut' of course. I was hoping I'd find an off cut of carpet big enough to re-do our downstairs toilet, but there was nothing wide enough sadly. One good thing was some odd wallpaper which I thought was all gone and which I need to do a little job in our bathroom, so it's not all bad. The charity shop was pleased to see me today anyway. There were a few odd and ends that G S took a fancy to so I told him he could have them for helping out.

So now you all know why I didn't get on here yesterday. I also helped GS out with his motor scooter to earn my Brownie points. The locking device on his seat, that allows access to the petrol filler and broken, so I used my engineering skills to fix it for him. Job done.

By then it was meal time, time for GS to go back to his OH and us to settle down for Midwives and Birdsong. Taped D O I, still yet to see who got knocked out so Mum's the word please.

Catch you later on. Stay warm tonight.

LOL Ann,your OH is a cheeky devil :-D.I have sent you a PM

William it sounds like you did a good job yesterday. It is ridiculous the amount of things that get shoved up into the loft.We had a massive clear out of ours a few years ago and just about filled a skip with some of the junk.I never go in out loft .It is horrible up there :-S

It is blooming freezing out side, and I am pleased to be all nice and cosy indoors by the fire. After Hannah left to back to London I tackled the ironing and ten had a good read of my book.Yet another one of my gruesome ones lol
Maureen I don't know if you have read any of hers Tami Hoag. This one is titled 'Secrets to the Grave'.

Pat we have Pet Plan for Chester.I do think it is expensive but as he is so old now I think we may as well stay with them.I am pretty sure there are cheaper ones.I must say though that I would always have insurance for my dogs or cats.My old dog Dodger had collapsed vertebra and had 2 huge operations .If he hadn't been insured it would have cost us about £1,800.

It's just Pasta and sauce for us tonight.I still feel full from yesterday.

Frank where are you? Are you alright?

William

William Report 30 Jan 2012 19:29

Jane, you are so right. However, what scared me was something I heard on the radio last week. It was about a guy who put so much in his loft that the whole ceiling came down! That got people phoning in with all sorts of tales, such as a guy who bought a whole load of books (books weigh heavy as you know) and was then surprised when the whole lot ended up 'downstairs' anyway. Apparently, lofts aren't really designed to take weight when they're built, unless folks purposely 'reinforce' them. Most of the stuff left up in ours now is boxes and lighter stuff, so I'm not too worried.
Apart from anything, as ours is so well insulated, I had to have a heavy coat on up there yesterday as it was flippin' cold!
I wonder if this will result in a lot of 'loft stories' on this thread?

When we had our cats we had a pet plan with our own vet, which was cheaper than doing it through insurance. He was marvelous and one time I had to take Holly to the vet on Boxing Day, by phoning the emergency number and him meeting us at the surgery. It said on the plan that such event could meet a premium charge, but he just charged a nominal fee and when I mentioned it being a holiday, he just said "Oh well, cats don't know it's a holiday" I think she'd got something wrong with her eye and I can recall him examing her and muttering "Cat's have beautiful eyes" - the man was just one old big softy! Amen for that...

Ann, you did make me chuckle, you sound just like my OH with a zapper. I think she can just manage to go from channel to channel and that's her lot. Sometimes she'll say "I can't get the subtitles off the screen, it keeps going to a different programme" It's because she's not presssing the subs button, but a number button instead. At least she's the first to admit she's no good with technology. I lent her my old Nokia phone when she was in hospital las tyear and that IS simple. When I got a call from her, I could hear one of her wardmates giving her instructions!

Well I have'nt done anything today and have'nt felt like doing anything so I did'nt. It is blimmin cold here with a bit of an easterly breeze and has been raining fine rain all day. Now it has got dark it is snowing again.

Ann I did laugh at your old charms. You should have said you were not going to take Gordon!! :-D

Our loft seems to be full of oh's boxes from computer parts in case they have to go back. Trouble is they stay up there too long. He did bring down some plastic boxes of old Christmas decs for me to sort out which I have'nt done yet. They have all got cobwebs on them.

Hi all,
Thought I had better pop in,

Not been the best of days for me, it's that horrible day that my dad died all those years ago (54 years) but still have so many thoughts of him. It's also my daughters 48th birthday. Don't know where she is, so couldn't get in touch, even if I wanted to.

Liz, I have about 80 books on didcs if you would like to load them on your book. Wikewise if anyone would like them, just say the word, and they can be passed around. Conrad down loaded them for me. Some were only released in book form last year.

Ros was at the memorial service this luchtime for Martine's sister. There were over 150 people there including 5 vicars. She belonged to so many church activities. Ros got home about 4.30 pm.

I did the Roast beef for tonights dinner which is now all cleared away (THANKS TO ROS)

Jane Report 30 Jan 2012 19:52

William, when my OH cleared out his parent's bungalow after they had both passed away he went in their loft and found one of his Dad's really really old false legs.He left it there!!!!!!.So the poor people who moved in after the house was sold must have quite a shock to discover a body part'I was quite cross with him when he told me what he had done. Our loft is really badly insulated and all leafs and muck get blown in from between the tiles.(That is why I won't go up there). It is one of those jobs that we keep talking about getting done ,but it never does.
I remember hearing about the ceiling that collapsed .I think it was an old man who had tons of magazines or something similar.Ours is now virtually empty other than just a few boxes and some old suitcases and Xmas decorations.

William, I could do with you here! We still have our Xmas decs in the conservatory and haven't got our other boxes out of the loft yet. OH put it off when his arms were achey, but I think we may make a start later this week. It is useful being able to mend things. Dad would get his welder out and repair all sorts at home and even on the car. I can just imagine your wife on the phone and the voice in the background! lol I think our batteries need changing in the remote as it's been telling me so for months. Also, I have got used to using the remote in the dark.......but not always as good as I think at hitting the right button!! :-|

Frank, I'm not surprised you were a bit low. It seems to be a time of unhappy memories for you. I hope it soon passes and that you soon feel better again.

Mel, I'm glad I am not the only one who has 'can't be bothered, not bothered and won't days'. They are happening here a lot lately. Yes, I should have told OH he was my only old charm(er)! ;-)

I have been trying to drink more water today since I was told I was a bit dehydrated. Typical, OH has been doing the same and he was trotting off to the bathroom that often I told him I was going to 'make a mint' when I put one of those slot things on the door! :-D He has gone off to a match tonight wrapped up for the cold......T shirt, shirt, sweatshirt, bodywarmer, jacket, padded anorak, 2 pairs socks, hat, scarf and gloves. With all the padding his big shoulders looked like one of those american footballers.

Through one of the libraries sites I now have free access to a limited number of 19th century newspapers. I found a report of a meeting where the Inspector of Nuisances had reported that a house had an inadequate water supply. He suggested that first the owner of the house be approached to remedy the matter. The owner turned out to be one of OH's ancestors brothers. Not connected, but it made me smile when I saw mention in one of the papers of 'Dr William's Pink Powders for Pale People'. I wonder if there was a 'shade' chart inside them.

Morning All,

Snow on the grass this morning but not on the road. Oh is taking me shopping today to Holsworthy. He must have run out of beer!! :-) He won't let me out on my own when it is like this.

His car is due for it's MOT on the 3rd. More expense :-(

It is quite cold here today and we have stocked the bird feeders up very well. They have piles of those fat sticks and seed and bread.

Ann I bet Gorden could hardly move with all those clothes on.

Morning Liz and Everyone.
I am sat here watching a poor Red KIte being terrorised by crows. It is sat in the top of a big tree where it was chased, and the crows keep swooping at it .
It is a very dull and misty morning, and I keep thinking I can see tiny bits of sleet of snow(about the size of flakes of dandruff ) :-D

Frank ,I hope you are not feeling quite so sad today <3

James is out with Chester now and I need to clear out the grate so we can have another fire later. But we are out of coal ,so I shall go and get a couple more bags from the little Garden Shop.
Coffee first though.

Patricia,we used to have Pet Insurance for Millie through our House Insurance. We Insure with the NFU, and they do a Pet Policy. You can do it for as much cover as you think you'll need, and we've found it very useful for minor ailments, even an op last year for a fatty lump. However, of course the premium goes up with age, and if you make a claim! so when we moved we didn't bother to take it out again as Millie is now 9 and the premium had gone up significantly I think you can spend an awful lot of money on insurance for animals, never use it and the money is gone! We shall now put a certain amount each year away for Millie and Merlin to cover vet's fees, then if you don't use it you've still got the money, for another day! I think the PDSA only help if you're on benefit, but I could be wrong. All food for thought.

Afternoon All,

Hope my post stays in place today.

Didn't settle very well yesterday evening, so went and striped the cooker down and put everthing in one of those bags with the gunge "OVEN PRIDE"
I kept turning in around all evening. This morning, I found a really hard and worn out paintbrush. Poured the liquid from the bag into a container and plastered the lot on the inside of the oven and left it for a hour. When I was ready, I cleaned the shelves and sides. Came up like new, with no hard scrubbing. Then took the door of and cleaned the glass door window inside and out. Scrubbed the inside of the oven and washed it all down. Put all the bits back. It looks like new again.

I have prepared dinner for tonight, with a rice pudding for "AFTERS"

Hope little Mocha goes on allright now. £32.00 a month does seen a lot of money for insurance, you must shop around, there must be cheaper.

Thanks for your PM Liz, received with thanks as usual.

Thanks again for your kind words. I know I'm a silly old B but thats the way I am.

No jokes to pass on today as yet.

Ros is busy doing a jigsaw, she gets so entraled in them, she can't leave them alone. But still has the T.V. on for background noise. :-D :-D :-D

Sky here is very overcast. Went to the garage this morning and could feel that sleety stuff in the air Jane, so it wasn't just you. !!!

Going back to my book again now. A Simon King one. Harvey loves them, I'm not to sure. It's about a distant time when they hunted Dragons with Hearts that had NINE CHAMBERS. and the wizard was about 200 years old. very queer, but one you can't put down.

See you later.

Afternoon All

Glad your a little happier Frank.

I have been to the hairdressers today, feel much better now I am looking brighter and tidy.

Daughter no 1 had to take Sofia to see a eye doctor about a few little pimples that have appeared on Sofia's eye lids,
doctor says it a virus that will appear on and off through her life , probably picked up a playgroup, not a problem at the moment but just to keep an EYE on it (sorry ;-) ;-))

Also Sofia had an eye test and the doctor said she has long vision and will have to have glasses to correct her eyes or she might get a sqint,
Goodness knows how daughter will get Sofia to wear glasses all the time, it's hard enough getting Sofia to wear a hat on her head these days , never mind glasses on her face :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Jan 2012 16:16

Fiona good luck with sophia if she has to have glasses! I think you can get little elastic straps for glasses for children. I bought oh one because his kept falling off while he was mowing if he bent over to empty the grass box. Don't think he even knows where it is now!!! :-|

Been shopping and oh was very very patient while I went round Wait**s. When is just opened the bag of toms on the vine I bought one out of the five in there and behind the label was completely mushy and all the others were wet from the really bad one. I have had to wash them all before putting them away.

Doing a big stew tonight so I had better get it started and come back in a min after it's on.
