ME girl - ERNIE is the name for the computer that selects winners numbers from the Premium Bonds that were once a popular means of saving and gambling at the same time way before anyone thought up the lottery as a sophiscated way of doing the same thing (more or less). Not sure the exact wording but it's Electronic Random Number Something something. It doesn't pay any bonus so unless you win something your bonds are only worth there face value. Hope that helps.

That sounded wonderful Frank.I bet you are zzzzzzzing away now. We have something called Slow Roasted Lamb Kleftico :-S.It is a joint of Lamb that has already been roasted in a sealed bag with different herbs.I just need to take it out of the bag and put it in the oven for 35-40 minutes to crisp up.Then I think you are supposed to shed it off the bone.Suggests to have it with Pitta Bread ,Greek Salad and Tzaziki (sp)?.But I have some Parmentier Potatoes that need using and some mini veg that also need using up. Chris says it is smelling good.I can't really smell much so probably won't be able to taste it much either :-SWhat a waste that will be on me.I can just about smell the Vick if I stick my nose right into the pot. I think Red wine will be good to go with the Lamb.Chris can choose which one.Poor chap hasn't had a 'decent' meal for days. :-S :-S

A short guide to ERNIE (thanks to Wikipaedia) ERNIE = Electronic Random Number Indicating Equipment
PM Harold MacMillan introduced Premium Bonds in 1956. The original ERNIE was installed in 1957. ERNIE 2 took its place in 1972 ERNIE 3 entered service in 1988 The latest is ERNIE 4 in service from 2004
BUT we still don't win anything - so who pays for all these ERNIE's?????

That's interesting William.I always thought I was given my one and only Bond in 1954 when I was born.Obviously I must have been at least 2 :-D
My savings back in my childhood were in the Post Office and my Piggy Bank. I had a big pink pig that sat on my bedroom window sill.I remember sliding a knife in the slot to wiggle out pennies (without Mum and Dad knowing)so I could buy a few extra Black Jacks and Fruit Salads. ;-)or maybe forbidden Bubblegum :-S.Mum thought it was common lol

Afternoon All,
Brrrr, another chilly but sunny day. Mind you, nowhere near as cold as where you are Shirl......that's really Brrrrrrrrr!!
Mel, I would think you can audition for Lady Godiva by now!! I'm not surprised your OH wants to 'play with his new lathe'. At least he is making some nice and useful things with it. My first OH did his apprenticeship in woodwork and in addition to what he used at work, he had all his own equipment at home as well, a lathe, bench drill, planer and surfacer as well as lots of hand tools and welding equipment. Before we were married he made me about half a dozen little wooden mallet (gavel?) things, each with fancy turned handles and mallet heads and all different. I had them hanging on the kitchen wall. He also made me a canoe before we were married......must see if I can find a pic. I remember varnishing it on the back lawn and my little brother being a right pain riding his bike near it before the varnish was dry!!!
Denise, I live in a village just outside the city of Leicester. I found things very confusing at first, but you will soon get in the swing!
Better go and get tea now......OH has stirred so will be getting hungry!!

I had a look at that thread too, but the way it has turned out I know why I stay mostly on here!!
Jane, I never had any savings accounts until I was aged 18 when my boyfriend's mum told me about INTEREST. Boyfriend took me to open a building society account and I never looked back!! Come to think of it I never had a bank account until I was 27 and had to open one to get my wages paid in.
Tomorrow I am taking OH to a meeting in Northampton in my car. Not looking forward to him being a passenger......he forgets he isn't the driver.....I'm sure you know what I mean!! It is only a short meeting so I shall look at the shops and take a peek in Hobb*craft as well.

Well, what a coincidence Denise........I was just looking at your cards on the blog and very nice they are too! I am the one with the bead jewellery. I started doing it about 12 weeks ago and am really enjoying it.
We were looking at the film The Artist and wondering whether to go and see it. It is black and white and silent too and I wondered if that would mean everyone would be talking all through it!! lol OH seems to think there will be music playing.....will have to see. :-S
Off to bed now as OH will want to set off early tomorrow and I will need to get fuel first. Night, night xx.

Hello all,
Warm afternoon here after heavy rain all night and this morning.
Pat your poor little fish, doesn't bode well for him. My g.aunt and her husband a Swiss man, had over 50 cuckoo clocks in their apartment. It think it must have been his hobby to collect them. What a racket when they all went off together :-S
William thank you for explaining that to me. There are many things on here that I don't always understand, so it pays to ask. Our lotteries were used to fund roads and hospitals, goodness only knows where those funds go now. Everything is run down, but they seem to find a couple of million for a new venue or sporting stadium :-|
Mandy how is your back now?? The new light sounds very nice.
Frank I can imagine you waddling around after that feed. Would keep me going for a week.
Mel I did enjoy those photos of Henny and friends. Such a pretty little girl and beautiful patterned feathers. How long do bantams live for generally?
Jane my mother established a bank account for me when I was little. I also had a piggy bank that my grandmother gave me. I think my father raided it more times than I did, but he always paid me back. Yes, bubblegum was always a no no at home, so I usually bought it at school. Hope the tap has stopped running and you are feeling a bit better.
Ann I have really enjoyed seeing all the pieces you have made. Good that you are going to continue with the class. Great pic in the canoe.
Nearly time for dinner, will hopefully be back later. Have a good day everyone.

Morning Everyone -5 when Chris left for work at 8.-3 when I went out with Chester. It was a lovely walk, just very frosty not icy.Poor old thing was limping a lot on that front leg of his ,so I have given him a pain killer and I think he may be out for the count very shortly. The crisp air did me a bit of good and cleared the tubes a bit lol.I feel a lot more human today but still sn***y.
I need to get to the P.O and get a card for my Sister. It's her knee op tomorrow.
I hope this bright sunshine hasn't made it too difficult for Ann driving to Northampton this morning. It's blinding :-S
Right quick coffee and then off.BBL

Jane I hope all goes well for your sister - it's a long recovery, but well worth it from what I have seen.
My neighbour had her operation on Saturday. She wants to come home already. Will be a long rehabilitation for her, but she is just missing her cat and home comforts. Sorry everyone I am rambling here, my neighbour fell in her backyard last Thursday. She is 86 and has other health problems; she just had her hip replaced as she pulled the joint out of the socket. She keeps us all smiling and on our toes around here. I hope we see her back here very soon.
Off to watch tv. 9.44 pm EST

Evening Kim Morning Denise Morning Jane
-3 this morning bright and Frosty,I have been to the bank with OH to sort out Money for first down payment of the new porch, the joiners are here knocking bits of wood together,
I want to get on and finish my ironing ,not got a lot though , but I have a nurse app at 12.10 for a thyriod blood test & depending on the nurse if she is good with the needle or not, IF NOT I WILL BE BLACK & BLUE and it will be a bit hard work using the iron,
My cold is on the mend, still have a bit of sinus trouble(headache) and a dry throat, but I can breath much better and no runny nose,
Well I'm away to put the kettle on and then finish this ironing, will be back on after lunch, see you then :-D
