The last time I got a damaged tooth repaired I said to the Dentist I some times think it would be easier to get false teeth. She replied NO they have their own problems.
Well they can't include the need of repairs and replacement fillings.
I used to have a rew beers with a friend donkey's years ago.He once said if you dream of your teeth falling out it means your'e going to lose an enemy.Who puts definitions on dreams? Sigmund Freud?

Hi David. My oh has had problems twice with his dentures breaking in half so don't wish to have your teeth out. It costs too much for new ones and much more than fillings etc.

Hope your cold eases soon Jane and everyoneone else who is a bit under the weather feels better soon. I have had a bit of a cold but not a streamer.
I am not getting on too well with my ciggy thing but not smoking so much.
I lived in Wanstead Park Rd when first married in 1969. Mum and dad bought a house there and dad made it into two flats. I had the bottom one so had the garden which was 175' long with the river Roding at the bottom. I still own the land it is built on and the two people in the flats have to pay me a pittance in ground rent.It is at the Ilford end of the road.
Do hope our Kim is alright and am sending positive thoughts her way............ <3

Hello all, just about to go for a ride to take my daughter up to her boyfriends. The trip might do me good. Trying to take in all your posts. I was having email chats with Jane when she was up very early this morning.
Just on smells and perfumes. I was always given a little bottle of 4711 wrapped in a lace hanky. I did get deathly drunk on a bottle of Drambuie one night, so I can't even stand to have it in the house. Mum used to sprinkle napthaline around the carpet and put mothballs in with the linen. My grandmother used to get me to cut her toenails and they had a terrible odour, then should would rub her feet with metholayted spirits. This one really sticks in my mind. Also the smell of tripe cooking on the stove, really hated having to eat that.
Will be back later hopefully. Where is Sheila off to?? I know she was going away, but to where?? Kisses in the graveyard ;-)

Morning all,
William, You really have started my grey cells working now !!! All the places and things we did so similar as"YOUNG MEN" When we had respect for our elders and would not dare answer back to our parents/police.
The days in the city werre such joy, the job was not that important to me , when young, but did manage to become a dept. head after a few years. National Service intrupted my progress in promotion, as it did for many people. I so remember the wine cellars and the stale smell you got from them. Do you remember the preacher "DR. DONALD SOPPER" he was on tower hill most weeks. Another place I would go for lunch was in Gracechurch St. we had 2/6d Luncheon vouchers and on nice days would take sandwiches and save the vouchers. Then we would go up West, see a show and go to one of the Aberdeen steak houses and have a real blow out. Do you remember the "RETREAT" at Chigwell Row, We would walk there from Woodford Bridge and have a drink when I was 17. Couldn't drink in the Bridge. They knew my age, as both publicans knew my family !!!!
Another place I remember so well was Everards Passage, Where a lot of Shipping agents were, and would advertise in their windows for crew members. Often thought about that adventure. As no doubt many youngsters did !!! Mel the Cinema up from South woodford Station was it the KINEMA ??? The one at the top of the Road was the MAJESTIC. That was out Sunday afternoon venue 1/6d with about 10 of us, in our "TEDDY BOY OUTFITS" Jack the Lads so we thought then. We would also walk over from Drapers hill to the ODEON in the summer time. There they had a Commisionaire all done up in his braided uniform. VERY POSH.!!!
Hows old SNOT bag this morning, <3 <3 <3 <3 Not leaving a trail around the house I hope. !!!
Denise,Nice to ee you joining in the thread. Can't help with names, as any of the Family that might have been of help, are long gone !!!!
Liz, Won't it be difficult picking a Kitchen till you LOG CABIN is built, or do you know the exact size you will have to put it.???
As I said before David look after you teeth. Mine have broken on many occassions, and it's a bit of a bind being without them while they are being repaired.
I'm rambling on a bit this morning, so will close and let you all get on.

Jane, When we bought the other shop in the village. It had been in the same family for over 100 years, and it showed. We had to gut it completely The builders found enough straw in the roof space to make a HAY STACK no kidding Anyway I digress (good word)
My builder had such a cold and runny nose he came into the other shop and bough some STs Put a loop round one ear, the pad across his nose and the other loop on the other ear. To see him working up the scaffold caused many a laugh in the village. Why don't you try that :-D :-D :-D :-D But don't go for a walk. :-0 :-0 :-0
Ros has washed her hair and put it in curlers, so I had to go to Tesc# with her. She put a scarf around her head and sat in the car, while I got the bits we needed. I was in and out in no time. She said That was quick. I said of course. I only got what we needed. I bet I could save a 100 hours a year spent in Tesc# and save us a fortune on things we don't want/need. It didn't go down well :-) :-) :-)
Kim, Glad you are able to get out, are you driving ???? or is that left to OH.
Liz, Not a bad place to look for Kitchens. Harvey and Julia bought a wonderful bedroom suite from Ebay and saved them a mint. And the quality is fantastic.
I must say I bought a dinning room table and chairs, that had hardly been used. and a very large glass display cabinet with draws and cupboards underneath. All in excellent condition for under £200.00 which included hiring a driver and his mate and van to collect. They bought it into the dinning room and erected it also. It was at the time I had my wrist in plaster after an operation.
Whenever Ros wants anything for the kitchen, or for that matter anything I always look on Ebay. and in some cases can save tens of £££££

Afternoon All,
OH got up to scrape the frost off my car this morning before I drove over to meet my pals for breakfast. On the way I was wishing I had my camera as there were some lovely sunny, but misty shots over the fields. I'm sure I spotted yellow oil seed rape flowers in one field!!! I had a lovely time and catch up on all the news with my friends, but they too have had the 'bug' and were only just better. Hearing how things were, it made me so thankful I'm not at work any more!! lol :-D
OH had done the ironing and some other jobs by the time I got home and says he will take me out for a carvery later so it will be nice not to have to bother with anything.
Poor you Jane........we can tell who is posh can't we........... fancy impregnated tissues for you........Vas*line and loo roll for me!!! lol :-S :-S I bet you must be feeling quite tired with the disturbed nights too.
Mandy, do be careful with your back. You don't want any 'setbacks'. I haven't heard that expression 'a lick and a promise' for a while. I remember when I was little and cleaned my bedroom mum would ask if I'd given it a 'cat lick.'
I did the same with my kitchen a couple of years ago Denise.........replaced everything....the lot. It was so nice to have everything where I wanted it and to use all the space better as well! It didn't make me want to do more cooking though.
Kim, it will be nice for you to have a ride out. Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Was sure I'd have that tooth pulled today, but no it's still there repaired. No guarantees as to for how how long. No needle as she said the nerve had been removed long ago in a root fill or something. That must been back in the seventies when I used to use James carruthers. He's since retired as a Dentist. He had arthritis in his hands.
Bright but still frosty in Newcastle.
Hope Jane and others get well soon.

These threads sure keep the grey matter from ceasing up! Half the time I can't keep up with half the items, other times I just have to add my 'pen'orth. Such memories come flooding back, and I'm sure in a lot of cases they are only of interests to people in our little world. The one thing I've enjoyed about getting involved in family history is not only how much I've learned about all my family but how much I've leanred althogether. Anyway, Denise, sorry to say none of the names you mention mean anything to me. The daft thing is I can remember neighbours names from my childhood yet I can't remember some of my neighbours now! The street that we lived in after we moved out of the East End was a little sub-community because several of our past neighbours all ended up in the same street, and we're talking 8 to 10 miles away from Cedars Rd in Stratford. Mel, you mentioned Wanstead Park Road, well I've got a coinicdence tale to relate. My wife was born and bred in Dublin but has lived here from the early 60's. She tried for a long time to get in touch with her best school mate and heard she lived in England. By a chance, she found out about the girls (woman now of course) sister and through her found out that her old friend lived in Wanstead, Dover Road actually. So we got in touch with her and on a visit to my Dad we went along to see her. What a pleasure for them both and since then we have stayed in touch. Her husband was an industrial radiographer at Fords and died sadly some time back. She now lives out in Essex in a little hamlet south of Chelmsford called Boynton Cross in a 400 year old cottage. Last year we had chance to see her when we went to our granddaughters wedding at Coggeshal with us staying at Braintree. That cottage was something else. Before I started family history I guess I thought all my relatives came from certain areas, but since then I've come to realise how much people moved around. With the aid of Wikipaedia searches I've come to realise how many place names/areas there were in just East London. Likewise I found most of the relatives on my Dad's side were each born in a different area, some south of the Thames, some north. Fascinating stuff.
Does anyone ever wonder how things got from one place to another in the 'old days' when we were younger. When I left school the first thing I wanted was a brand new bike of my own and I saw just the one in Sissiley's bike shop in Chadwell Heath. Dad stood guarantor and I paid faithfully every week. Weekends I'd cycle off, sometimes all day, sometimes a B&B or YHA over night and be back on Sunday. It could be the Essex countryside, or over the Woolwich ferry and down into Kent. If I had to work a Saturday morning, I'd even cycle all the way up to Fenchurch Street and back weather permitting. When I got called up for the RAF and got to my main posting it was only at North Weald, an hours cycle ride from my home. So I got sleeping-out permission and would often cycle home after 'work' and get up early next morning to make it back to camp for 8am book in. Now, where's all this going? During my service I met my first wife, a girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and on my demob I moved to the Midlands to begin my life here. Not only that, love me love my bike, that also ended up as my main means of transport. But try as I might I just can't recall how it got here! I certainly didn't ride it all the way!!!! Incidentally, I eventually sold it to my B in L, so it was a real good investment. Hope all that wasn't too boring. Off to do some more family research now. Catch you all later. Have a good evening.
