Hi Everyone,
Oh no Jane, All laid up on the settee with this horrid bug!! Fingers crossed you don't get the cough next. I bet you are feeling poo too, but I bet Chester is giving you TLC. Chris is probably pleased to be away from the bugs for a while! :-D Hope you soon feel a bit better. Why is it the men seem to bring these bugs home!! :-S
Fiona, you sound the same with a streaming nose too! I kept putting vase*ine on mine in the house to help the soreness. Hope your dentist didn't find anything to do.
Sorry to hear about poor Martine's sister Frank. That must have been a shock for her with her sister not that old. We really should try and enjoy every moment we have shouldn't we like you and Denise have said. Hope your blocked ear eases soon. Do you have to keep saying 'pardon'.
Mel it sounds like you have a few shopkeepers in your tree! I bet you are glad to find you have no prolapse after all. How are you doing now with the electronic ciggies?
Shame about your fish Pat. Sometimes I found it took a little while for everything to settle down in a new tank. I hope yours is ok now. It sounds as if there could be more fireworks where you work!!
Mandy I find my OH uses no logic when packing. I used to unload the trolley with things grouped together, eg frozen stuff all together, veg altogether......makes it easier when you unpack at home and things don't get crushed!!! lol Now he comes with me, everything goes on the belt anyhow!!!! Same when he goes on his own!! Still, I suppose we have to be thankful they do it and carry it all for us!!
I wonder how Kim is? She had an appointment with her doctor this week didn't she.

Well you really ARE visiting the dentist regularly now David!! I have a few that the corners have split off. Tricky to get fillings to hold when that happens.
I had to cancel my appointment last week as I wasn't well, but will have to make another soon. :-S

I'm still here lol.I knew once I switched on it would be difficult to turn off straight away. Mandy.Men should have lessons in packing shopping!!!!Saying that Chis is quite good.I can just imagine what that bread looked like :-0
Frank I'm very sorry to hear of the sudden death of Ros's friend's Sister. What a dreadful shock.
David good luck at the Dentist. You seem to be spending a lot of time there lately :-S Rectal Prolapses are not uncommon. Not nice but thankfully can be fixed. Mel that's good that you are alright and nothing seems amiss up there :-D
Liz ,I hope you find your dream kitchen tomorrow.Where are you going in Bristol.Cribbs?
Fiona I think you must be feeling just like me today. We all seem to be doing the rounds with this cold.Sales of cold remedies and tissues must have gone through the roof .
David I wish I had some Vicks to rub on.I love the smell of it.Mind you I probably wouldn't be able to smell it at the moment :-S.I often used to smear a Hankie with it and put it under my pillow.
I wonder how our Kim is.I did hear from her the other day saying she wasn't improving as quickly as she had hoped.Kim if you are looking in ,I hope you are doing alright and getting some of your strength back now.

Mel, I missed your post about Stoke Bruerne Didn't have tele on. was reading my book.
It appears the woman that died, was at home with her husband. He called the emergency paramedics. They spent an hour trying to resuscitate her. They won't know what it was till the post mortom but think it was a massive STROKE
My throat is much better today, but my hearing hasn't improved much. Keep holding my nose and blowing, hoping it will clear my ears. (Like on a plane)

No Denise/Kim/Maureen or Pat. All watching Emmerdale at the moment I suppose.

Frank, where on earth do you get all those gems that you have in your emails. They are crackers, I loved the 'then and now', how true! Love them all, they cheer me up no end, keep 'em coming.
Also, when were you around when you where working in the East City? I was commuting that way from 1950 till I was called up in November 1953 I'm sure our paths must have crossed if the time was right. I worked in a little office in the basement of No 8 Lloyds Avenue in a pokey little place, but hey, it was a job and not only enjoyed it, but learnt a lot from it. On the ground floor was Harpers magazine, sounds posh but it wasn't really. I also used to spend lunch breaks on Tower Hill if the weather was good listening to the orators or watching the escapologists. I incident I recall was when a 'preacher' was holding a 'sermon'. At one point he held his bible in his left hand, then extened his right hand calling out "There will be a message from above". At that moment a passing seagull decided it was toilet time and his missile landed right in the mans palm! If it started out serious, it soon turned into the comedy act of the day. Hope I haven't offended anyone who is very religious. To get the I had to go via Crutched Friars and the Toc H place. It went under the Fenchurch St railway and there were a lot of bonded warehouses let into the sides. The smell of casked wine was intoxicating to say the least. I also used to go to a big restuarant in, I think, The Minories, called Yeomansons. I got to know the folks who dined at the same time . It was the days of luncheon vouchers (which I didn't get) and if their meal didn't come up to the value, the waitress would bill them together so I get my lunch at a discount. My mothers family also came from Bethnal Green and I wished I'd known my family history when I went to the Museum of Childhood there. I've since learnt that a lot of the places still exist. Same when I used to visit Tower Hill, if I knew then what I know now about my Dad's childhood, I could have walked across Tower Bridge and visited places he was at when he was young. All the talk of Chigwell took me back too. My brother and I would push bike via the old Fairlop WWII airfield up to Hainault forest. having to dismount to get up Hog Hill, both ways. Then we'd go on to Chigwell Row and if we had time (and any strength left) push on to Chigwell itself. Those were the days when it was more than safe to cycle everywhere. One time, the chap next door, who drove a lorry for Ford's, took me a drive in his truck for the day as a treat. That was really something. I'd only been on buses or trains except for one time when we were waiting for a Green Line bus at Chadwell Heath (Mum Dad & me) en route to see my uncle & aunt at Plaistow. A chap pulled up in one of the old Riley's and offered us a lift and took us all the way to Stratford Broadway. Could you see that happening today?
So there you go, Haven't put anything on for a day or two and here I am harping on. Ah well, it gave my fingers some exercise anyway.

Ooh Frank .Having your ears rubbed .Lovely. :-D.Chester loves that. It's horrible though isn't it when the oil goes in,and you can hear it clicking and clacking for ages.My ears feel 'full'.All that muck bunging up all the tubes lol. You may have missed my post yesterday saying Maureen may be away for a bit as her computer was going in to the pooter hospital. I don't fancy any dinner at all ,and don't fancy cooking either .So I told Chris he will just have to make do with a bit of Pasta and Sauce when he gets back from the pictures. If I had thought about it I should have suggested he picked up some fish and Chips. I have a massive pile of soggy tissues in front of me :-S :-S :-S.My nose has turned into a tap tonight........where is the stop cock???

Mel, the Odeon at Gants Hill, yes I remember it. We used to get the bus to Ilford, I loved the split level Harrisons and Gibsons furniture store. Then we'd make our way up to Cranbrook Park to watch the squirrels. If we had any time and money left we'd go to the Odeon for the afternoon film then do the journey all the way back. Got some happy memories of Ilford too. My brother was married at the church there as my SinL came from there. I also used to go to the gigs at the Town Hall, used to get some great bands there, I still remember Eric Delany playing there, and Kathy Stobbart doing solo sax. Cinemas were everywhere then but sadly like pubs are doing now, they've all died off. Sorry, but I don't like these multiplexes at all. I can also remember my Dad having to go into the hosptial near Redbridge, I think it was King Georges. In these days of cars for everybody, I can't recall how we got around so much.

There are no 'Flea Pits' left around here now.We have a Multiplex.( Ithink 8 screens).Chris has just got home from seeing The Iron Lady.He thought it was excellent.I'm gutted I wasn't up to going. No doubt I will get to see it sometime. William you don't harp on.I love your posts as I'm sure we all do. My Dad always would stop and give people lifts ,and go out of his way to take them where they needed to get to.I think that rubbed off on me ,as in the 70's I would stop and pick any hitch hiker up.Never gave it a second thought.I met some interesting people. And I hitched hiked too.I did that with a friend around Scotland when I was about 22.There was one chap who went well out of his way to take us to Stirling.I haven't seen a Hitch Hiker in years!!!!

Evening All,
I have jus been catching up on some of the posts, dont watch Emerdale but I do watch Eastenders and Corrie.
It is so interesting reading your thread William all the places you mention from the City I also used to know from working up there but probably about 17 years later. I loved working up there and whenever I can I still visit.
I know this is a differet area but my Grandad was born in Hoxton Square and about 3 years ago my sister and I stayed in London for about 2 nights and went on a walk which I got off the internet which ended up at Hoxton Square and we saw the house where my grandad was born the church he used to attend and the school. It was a fantastic time.
I also have connections with Bethnal Green, Islington, Stoke Newington.
Mel - my Grandad was born in Chigwell in 1872 my Dad was born in South Woodford in 1912.
Frank, William, Mel - do the nams Cleave or Hyde mean anything to you or your families as they came from those areas.
Does Anybody have any connection with Pubs does anybody know of the pub The Middlesex Public House, Westbourne Road, Islington a relative was a barmaid there in the early 1900's.
I'm loving all this reminiscing (cant spell the word mind you)!!
Bye for now

Evening All
Unfortunatly I have to go to the dentist every week for the next 3 weeks to have my teeth built up as the have worn away. it was hard work tonight could not eat my pasta because I could not chew it was like having smooth stones in my mouth instead of teeth the food just rolled over the teeth, hopefully they will all wear down at the same time and make eating easier.
off to bed now
night night xxxxxxxx

Morning All,
Bright and frosty this morning. There's a bit of mist at the mo but ice on the water on the patio. Many birds on the feeders.
Have'nt caught up with all the posts yet as oh's lathe arrived yesterday at about 12.30pm and we had a job to get it together it being so heavy I had to be there incase he had difficulty. Then he had to have a play on an old bit of wood.He has'nt done any turning for some years now but I think it will keep him quiet for a while.
