Afternoon all,
Very overcast and windy here.
Ros has a load in the washing machine, hoping to get it out for a blow, before the promised rain.
Oh what a night I had. Went to see the match and had a few beers with the lads. When I got in the pub, there was an unsavory looking guy in the corner of the bar. I sat next to him with a few of the lads with their backs to the bar watching the match. This guy got into conversation with me, and slaged off the lads who supported L'Pool. He was an Everton fan. by the end of the match, we found he was on a narrow boat on the canal, and was as piss## as a rat. He mentioned the money I had in my wallet when I got a note out to get a drink. (ONLY £50.00 birthday money) ftom Harvey. Peter one of the lads. said wait a few minutes after he's gone. Sam and I don't trust him. And you on your stick would make a good target. !!!! So after he left. they both left their beers and walked me to the village hall, which is not far from home. How nice these younger men look after us oldies.
Anyway, got home safe and sound, watched a bit of tele. and went to bed about 11.00pm Had a read, and tried to settle down. Ros had started feeling a bit chilly in bed, so put a fleece under the throw. To heavy for me, I tried everything to settle, but was still wide awake at 4.30am.Finally dropped of, and woke about 9.30 am.
Ros made me laugh yesterday, she related a conversation she had with little ELLA on the way to Bristol. They stoped for petrol, and Jan got out of the car. Ella said to Ros "Ros, have you got a baby in your belly" NO said Ros, She said well you do have a fat tummy. Children will always say whats in the mind BLESS THEM.
Mel was the PDSA the one across the Southend Road at South Woodford, With PDSA painted on the roof. We could see that from Drapers hill, and used it for our pets.???
Also remember going up to Drapers Hill, to watch the bombing of London, The Docks were ablaze, and the city burning, Throught the flames you could see St. Pauls Cathederal silhouetted in the back ground. Things you never forget.
Chapped legs were the norm in the winters. Our hodnailed boots, grey long socks, short flannel trousers fust below the knees, grey flannel shirt, knitted grey pullover, and a lumberjack coat. Balaclava and gloves on string through your sleeves, so you didn't loose them. A square of an old cotton sheet for a handkerchief. We use to chew the balaclava and make it all soggy, which in turn made you have chapped lips. I was ELEVEN and had started Senior school before I had long trousers.
Went to put the line up for Ros, and there are loads of snowdroops just poking through.

Frank,I reckon you were lucky last night.Thank goodness you had some friends there to make sure you were ok.Is this chap someone who lives on the canal there or is he just passing through?
I think Ella would have thought I had more than one baby in my tummy lolol.
I just have my tree to take down now.Everything else is put away.Oh,I Just thought. The Wreath is still hanging out the front.
Does anyone else find that the tinsel smells horrible when you bring it down out of the loft, but then when it has been out in the open for a while the smell wears off ?.I will miss my Christmas lights that I had around the window sills and fireplace :-(
Has anyone heard from Kim?

Hi Everyone,
That was good those young chaps were looking out for you Frank......I'd have walked with you too!! That chap did sound as if he could have been a 'bad 'un', just can't be too careful. Cheeky little Ella, just say what enters their heads don't they. A teenage friend of mine was bathing a young adopted cousin of hers and he asked why she had two hills on her chest!! lol :-0
I had a really good sleep last night after all the bad nights, didn't wake till 10.00am and feel better for it. Looked around a few charity shops at Hinckley for beads today and our teacher was right about people clearing out their jewellery after Xmas, so I got a few bargains. I also got an 'as new' book........I think Jane would like it too and may have already read it, The Surgeon by Tess Gerritson. It is about a serial killer!

Late afternoon all,
We have been busy today. I got all the plastic box's in from the garage (8) for Ros to put all the decorations and lights away. She wouldn't let me near the steps to get the front lights down, so I took the clips from her and held the lights. (WUFF OR WHAT) She ran out of box's, so I went down the shed and bought up a couiple more that I had for the chickens food/corn. Then had the job of stacking them all away for another year. Ros is now making a list of all the cards we received (over 100) so we don't forget anyone next year.
Doing a Chicken Casserole tonight, with cabbage and mash.
That bloke last night was from the canal, Don't know where he was from or where he was going, but a right rough looking Bugger if ever you saw one, Hair like Samson, only about 4 teeth, and hands that looked like he'd been in a coal mine. as were his cloths. It's a wonder the landlady served him. But it takes all sorts.
Which reminds me my Dad loved his Bassetts Allsorts, Provided he got a box for birthday and Christmas he was as happy as Larry.
Glad you had a good night Ann, It certainly make you feel better, I'm hopeing for one tonight.!!!
I see we still have our little father christmas. wonder when they will take that down 12th night perhaps. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
I'd better go and check on the dinner and see about the veg.
See you laster

You must be so relieved to have had a good sleep at last Ann.I was awake at 3.30 AGAIN :-S.I heard the radiator ticking and couldn't understand why it was on.So I had to get up and investigate.James had switched the heating back on earlier in the day but had put it on constant.Of course I then couldn't go back to sleep ,so had a little read again.(I didn't wake Chris either). I have a feeling I have read all of Tess Gerritsen. The trouble with me is I read so much I can't always remember what I have read. :-S.It's like an addiction with me.I can't just have one book ready to read .I have to have a big pile.
James had a book arrive today. It cost 1pence on Amazo*.It is a great thick thing about Oxford in the 1600's and something about a murder.I suggested he keep it for Chris's birthday on the 29th,and t hen James can read it after lol
I went down the garden just before it got dark to put bird seed out and found 4 more panels from the greenhouse had popped out :-S.It looks a bit of a wreck at the moment.
It's very quiet on board today isn't it.I do hope everyone is alright.

Who was this Larry that was alway so happy, I would liked to have met him, perhaps not Wally who was I suppose an idiot, and Gordon Bennet.
That's really cheap Jane, did he have to pay postage on it? I like to have a few 'intellectual' books for the bookcase, not that I'd ever read them .... just for show ...... I think you have read The Surgeon I seem to remember I was going to sent it to you and you said you'd read it, really gruesome.
We do tend to judge by appearance, that guy may have been quite innocent Frank, but you can't be too careful these days, better safe than sorry as they say.
You've certainly got a lot of friends, 100 Christmas Cards, I probably got about 20.

Maureen ,that's funny you saying that about Happy Larry.I was only wondering just the other day where that saying came from.My BIL is called Larry. James said he paid about £1.20 for postage on that book.It is a used book but in very good condition. Yes I'm pretty sure I have read that book 'The Surgeon'.
We had about 70 cards.I have written the list who they are all from and tucked away now for another year. My Mum loved Basse* Liquorice Allsorts, and would quite happily sit and eat a whole bag. Then wonder why she felt sick lol.The other sweets she loved were Turkish Delight and Walnut Whips.Oh and Flakes and lots of other sweeties. My Dad's favourite were Murray Mints or Foxes Glaciers. He always kept a paper bag of Murray Mints in the car, especially when he had given up smoking his pipe.

Evening everyone,
What a cold day its been , at least it has stayed dry and the wind has dropped a bit .
I had the most weirdest dream last night , i was with hubby looking round a huge bungalow that some one had built , they had just had a carpet laid and it was dark brown , when i looked in the bathroom the carpet had been laid in the shower too and even up the walls !!! The next minute i was looking round the open plan rooms, there were no doors and beds were put in every corner or up on landings ,i counted 176 Beds ,some rooms had four double beds in them . Then i was hoovering up in the rooms, the hoover pipe pluged into the wall and the rubbish bin was a hole in the floor with water in it !!! Then it was a bed and breakfast place and there were dirty old socks all over the floor and round the beds i had to serve breakfast while picking up the socks !!! It all seemed so real !!!
Liquorice allsorts were my dads favorite sweets ,he always gave me the ones with the little coloured balls on them ,i think they were the pink and blue ones ,i haven't had any since he's been gone .
It was good of the lads to see you home Frank ,you carn't be too careful these days ,there's some rogues about !!
I like to sit and look all my christmas cardsagain ,then i use them for shopping lists( not yours Maureen i save that one ) some of the smaller ones i use for gift tags ,so i do my bit for recycling . I got some christmas gift bags in Tes*o's today for 38p ,they were selling all the christmas stuff off really cheap i've put them away for next year, although i;ll probably forget where i've put them.

Mandy I have most weirdest dreams too. Can't even begin to explain them lol You wonder where on earth they come from :-S
I bought some gift bows in Tes** for 38p too today. There was a half price aisle . I don't bother with wrapping paper etc.But did get a big box of washing machine tablets for £6 instead of £12.
I'm getting worried about Kim .I don't think we have heard anything now for a couple of days.
Mandy do you ever go to London (or your family) by train?I have seen something that looks a really good deal that lasts for a couple of months .From Norwich to Liverpool St Station.

Does any one remember donkey's years ago the only heating being an open coal fire around which everyone huddled.
Some would get scorch maks on their legs refered to as fire watchers legs while at the same time your back was near freezing.
The fire often being lit with the aid of an improvised blazer ie a shovel close to the fire with a news paper from side to sid to induce a strong draught.Sometimes the newspaper would go on fire and cause a momentary panic.Did that happen in your house?

I never go to London Jane , my Nephew does ,he takes his two girls in the school holiday ,i think he goes as far as Loughton or Epping Forest by car then he takes the tube in , he finds this the cheapest way to do it ,not that he will be taking them for a while ,one of his girls has to have a big operation on her spine in February her spine is bent she carn't straighten up ,she's only about thirteen and is getting really worried about the op ,it will take about 8 hours .
Yes we usually hear from Kim every few days don't we , i hope shes ok ,she's had a lot of worry over christmas and the new year with the family ,maybe this has upset her and made her poorly again .

We've got the wind here now Mandy (not that sort! :-0) and rain lashing down too.
A 100 cards Frank. We must be Billy no mates with nowhere near that many. We used to run out of places to put them when we both worked, but you do get lots when you work. It might be an idea for you to get some of those bargain gift bags Mandy mentioned............easier than parcel wrapping next year!! :-D :-D
That was a weird dream Mandy! Like you say it is all so REAL at the time. lol
That sounds a good book James got Jane and only a penny!!! That's a good idea of yours too so James still gets to read the book that way. ;-)
OH and FIL love liquorice allsorts, but OH doesn't like the 'all liquorice' ones and saves them for his dad. OH's favourites are those pink and blue ones.
Mel, that would have been fun taking your pony to the PDSA......lucky you meeting Billy Fury!! Do you still have the pic?

Yes, I remember that too David. Mum used to call it 'corned beef legs' as she said that's what they looked like! lol I had forgotten about the smoke billowing Mandy. I loved the smell of the hot newspaper when it was used like that to get a good draw. I remember coming home from school and standing warming the back of my legs in front of the fire and mum saying to move as no heat was getting though into the room.

LOL David......i still have the nightmare of the newspaper catching light and whooshing off up the chimney. My Dad was the one who used to sit and hold the paper up.I would often run from the room in fear :-S Even now when we have the fire lit and it doesn't get going Chris will hold the paper up ,and as soon as I see it being drawn in ....I'm off.Scares me to death lol. Dad always kept a pot of spills on the Mantelpiece .He would light them from the fire to then light his pipe.If not spills it was Swan Vesta Matches. He always kept a box in his trouser pocket .I remember one day the box caught fire.He always put the dead matches in the other end of the box.But this particular day one match must have still been hot and set fire to the other matches.I can still see him now slapping his pocket running around the back garden :-S :-S :-S
