I think it may have been the 1947/48 winter Maureen as mum said I was just a baby and they had to keep me warm!
Yes, I had to give that young man my address so he could bring me the photo!! Made sure he called round when dad wasn't there though or he would have been rude to him and sulked after. He wasn't THAT good looking!! lol ;-) ;-) I never saw him around again.
Flipping heck, you have done a lot of ironing.......all that steam must have helped your cold......glad you didn't get the nasty cough.
Frank, we were both so blinded this morning with the sun reflecting off the road we couldn't see our right turn we wanted. It was awful.

Oh I'm loving the stories William and Ann. :-D :-D. Ann It sounds as though Apollo was like one of those Viennese Horses, with all his prancing. He sounded a real character .Maybe as you say he had been ill treated by some nasty man.
William I can see you like little Billy no mates rolling your massive snowball around the block. Were you in short trousers?Did little boys wear long trousers back then?If you lived near Frank then, he would have come and helped you make the snowball lol.
Do some of you remember the Snowman Hannah and I made back in 2009.?Mel did one too.All that deep snow.I think that was the winter Mels wire fruit cages buckled under the weight of all the snow.
I have NO TV signal :-S :-S :-S.I don't know if the sky dish has been upset in all the wind ,or if it is a widespread problem.I have had the radio on all afternoon as I can't bare to have the house so quiet.
I must go back and read Frank and Maureens posts and any others I may have missed.BBIAB

Daffodils Mel!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't got my christmas tree down yet and SPRING is here!! lol Shame you lost the post on your pony.......so annoying when that happens.
Jane, I remember the lovely snowmen you and Mel sent. I never got round to doing one!!
Try switching your S*Y box off at the wall for a few minutes and then switch it back on again. It will take a few minutes to load again but should be ok then. They sometimes just get STUCK and yes, the weather affects them too! lol

Maureen!!! All those bags of ironing :-S :-SYou did well to get 12 done.Hope your nose drys up soon.I have been doing a bit of sneezing and seem a bit Cattarhy in my ears. They don't half itch.I have been waggling my fingers in them all day lol
Frank ,what a shame about Ros's shopping trip to Cribbs. That was an awful long way to do no shopping .I bet you were quietly pleased lol. Yes that sun when it came out late this morning was blinding and so dangerous.I didn't have my sunglasses with me in the car and I'm too short for the visor to be of much use. :-S
I am wondering if Fiona is without electricity.I did here there are a lot of households up in Scotland without power. Also Liz.I think Wiltshire has been quite bad.
Half my decs are down and it all looks very untidy here.I can just see Chris's face when he gets in.He will roll his eyes and say "is that all you've done " lol.He will just get a dirty look from me :-D :-D

Yes Mel, Drapers Hill or Millmans Hill. Depending if you knew both the farmers. My brother came out of the Navy after the war and joined Drapers dairy as a milkman. He did that till he retired, same round After Drapers and the horses, it went over to something Daries. Can't think. OH I KNOW UNITED DARIES. with the Electric milk floats, never the same. What a pity loosing all that about your pony. You know how I feel now, when typing with ONE FINGER !!!!
Just noticed. Man City playing Liverpool tonight, So might go for a looksee and might have a pint or two or three.
We have had the same trouble as you before Jane. Do as Ann says, it worked for us many times. :-) :-)

Glad you folks enjoyed my childhood memories. Luckily, we didn't have any hills, it was pretty flat all round. And yes, Ann, the one think I left out was that distinctive crunching sound. Frank, you certainly found a good use for redundant Anderson shelters, well done, I think you had some hills around Woodford, if my memory serves me right. I knew we weren't too far from each other. It's amazing when you think that we got around very well with public transport. My Dad lived well into his 90's and never learned to drive. Luckily he worked on the railways from the days of the LNER and would take us everywhere on his 'priviledge tickets', or 'privs' as he liked to call them. I've still got two of his old LNER whistles here. The kids will either dump them when I'm pushing up daisy's or they'll be on EBay LOL.

Evening Everyone
Weather has been awful here , strong winds and lashing rain, I have not been across the door today at all Part of Next door neighbours garage roof has blown off, but we think they are away at the moment so they will be in for a surprise when they get home,
I have been unable to get on the internet till now as there has been no broadband all day, and our home phone line also broadband is not working, don't know if it is to do with weather or not. we are lucky here as we have no problem with the electricity at all.

William I think we all love hearing your stories. We lived in a hilly village when I was young.I'm sure I have told this story before, but will say again. My Dad made me and my Sister a Toboggan, and it was a very snowy winter that year either 62 or 63 I can't quite remember which. My friend lived opposite us and their back garden backed onto a very steep field. There was a gap in the hedge which made it easy to get into the field.I can see it as clear as day.Dad insisted he needed to try the toboggan first ,just make sure it was ok .(That was his reason) .He just wanted first go lol.Anyway he set off at the top of the hill and whizzed off.He disappeared from sight as there was a dip at the bottom. We all waited for him to come pulling the sledge .We waited and waited. Eventually he appeared with a very scratched face and looking quite sheepish. He had only landed in the Brambles lol.But he was so chuffed that the runners he had polished up did the job .It's so strange remembering that day ,it makes me well up a bit .That was a really great day ,and exhausting :-S.Going home with rosy cheeks.Well my sister did .She always had cracked rosy apple cheeks. Remember the chapped legs ???? from getting wet trousers and they would rub and chafe the inside of your legs, and you had to waddle like a duck :-S :-S.I think I have definitely gone back to my childhood tonight :-)

I can just imagine your dad on the toboggan Jane, trying not to look too keen but itching to try it! lol
Your Fuschia has done well to still have a flower and buds Mandy. I must go and look for our snowdrops tomorrow. I moved them when we had the patio done.......now where did I put them though? :-S
Your weather sounds awful Fiona. I bet your neighbours won't be pleased to find the damage when they get back.
I hope I sleep better tonight too, just could not get off last night for hours. Jane you must be a bit of a pain for your OH. Just don't read anything side splitting will you!! :-D
Off to bed too now, just watched a recording of the new Michael Portillo series of the train journeys, just as good as the last. Night, night xx

Morning All,
Still very windy here and it is very cold but the patio outside the back door has dried today. I have some washing in and hope it dos'nt rain when it is time to get it out. It does smell sooooooo nice when it has been out in a cold wind.
Should take the decs down today but I know it is going to look so bare when I do. My little Christmas tree is not looking too good either. It is growoing in a pot but I think it is missing the dew or rain I should say on it's branches. I have been giving it water. Why is it that when you go to put the decs back in the box they came out of there is never enough room for them??
William both Frank and I were not too far from you as I grew up in Redbridge. The chap who worked for my dad when I was young came from Chadwell Heath. My maternal grandfather came from Walthamstow.
I was saying in the post I lost yesterday how when I worked for the PDSA my pony would come to the Christmas party they held each year for the animals. Lots of reporters there from the papers and we always had a celeb to open it. I think it was Peggy Mount one year and Millicent Martin another. Whilst working there we often had our pics taken with special patients for the papers and one day I had my pic taken with Billy Fury and a white goat who ate cigarettes. I was given some to feed him while the pics were taken. The goat I mean not Billy Fury!!! :-)
We have a few snowdrops out in the garden and some of our daffs have leaves about 8 inches tall but no flowers yet.
There has just been the most horrendous noise coming from the end of the bungalow!!!! I thinkit is oh drilling something. I shall have to go and see what :-S
