Afternoon David
Thanks for the good advice, actually had to put my hood up and wear a scarf as by the time we went out it was pouring down, no wind thank goodness, the last few days in Lancashire, the weather was terrible , wind so strong you had a right job to walk.

Just had lunch now going to sit down with the news paper for a while.

Afternoon everyone,

Dry here so far ,lots of dark clouds about though.

Had a bit of a panic this morning , went to sons and he was saying about new years day on Sunday ......SUNDAY !!! .i don't know what made me think it was Monday !!! ..them panic stations as the Turkey was in the freezer !!!
came home took the turkey out of freezer ,said to hubby that's never going to thaw out in time ,shot the turkey back in the freezer, then quick trip to Tes*o's to get a fresh one.......only three left !!!! left me all of a dither !!! i hate rushing like that .
Also cooking a piece of beef ,but that's in the fridge so no problems with that one.
Just think if son hadn't said any thing ,guest would have turned up ,to no meal !!!!

Phew!!! i need a drink to steady my nerves :-S :-S :-S :-S

Thinking of you today Pat <3 i don't know how i would feel if i lost my little grand son so sending you and your family my love <3

Right i better do some ironing too .

Hope all goes well Pat, sending my love too <3.

Got my brother and wife and friends coming tomorrow evening for New Year's Eve. I'm going to do roast lamb, as that always seems to go down well. Couldn't get goose fat Frank, so bought duck fat instead will that be alright. This will make a nice change for me as I'm usually on my own new years eve and it's never worth going to bed early as everyone starts letting off fireworks at midnight.

That must be one heck of a turkey Mandy if it takes more than two days to defrost. I found Sain***ry very busy this morning and not a great deal on the shelves

Afternoon All,

Have been doing a bit on my tree this morning after some ironing. Do you think I can find any of this family on the census as down as born in Essex? Had an enquiry about somebody and was trying to look up and find out more but no luck.

Mild here today but also mizzley. I have just changed the dustbin bag and had to take my jumper off when I came in as it was soaked and leaking through. Turned the heating on now too for a while as I am now cold round my back.

Kim that dos'nt sound good with your daughter. I am surprized they sent her home! Hope she is a little better now. Love to all.

Trust Ann is a bit better today and not so weezy. I laughed at you looking out the window to see if there was a cat out there. :-D

I have had a message from our Sheila and she has another situation to contend with now. They have been sent a pic of a girl and they say it is Moshen's daughter. Michelle has hit the roof and him and chucked him out. Can't tell you anymore than that at the moment.

Maureen the turkey was a bit on the large side ,and i was worried it wouldn't be thawed out enough ,it wouldn't have been taken out of the freezer until nearly lunch time today and i wanted to cook it first thing Sunday morning so i daren't risk it !!!

Never tried Duck Fat before ,have had Goose Fat and that made the roasties lovely and crisp ,i mostly use just oil ,and always red potatoes and they crisp up and brown lovely .

Poor Sheila ,it's one problem after another with her family ,its not doing her heart any good all this worry !!

Ironing all done ,might watch Downton Abbey later , i recorded it christmas day and haven't watched it yet .

Hubby wants a cuppa now .

Afternoon All,

It is very dull and wet here too. No wind at the moment though.

What a panic Mandy and good thinking to pop and get a fresh one! lol Made me think of Mr Bean and him giving his guests his home made twig*ets!!!

Kim, your poor daughter must feel absolutely exhausted and what a nasty bug. I do hope she starts to feel a bit better soon.

Jane, take your earplugs to bed tonight for a good sleep!!!! lol I'm not surprised you were so tired with all you have had to do this last week. I bet poor Chris has caught something from someone like me while he was on duty. :-S I hope his clears up quickly.

I slept about 6 hours last night, which was much better. Chest still growly when I breathe but coughing less and less painful. I feel really lethargic but a lot better in myself so I decided I didn't need to go back to the docs today. She said to come back if I was no better or worse. Frank, you should have seen my Pharmacutical Friends I had lined up on the drawers.......could just about join you in the 'shake, rattle and roll!!!!' lol

Maureen, the thought of lamb really appeals to me now after all the turkey so I bet your meal will go down a treat. What a shock for Sheila and her daughter. Poor Sheila doesn't get much peace for long does she, but it must be pretty serious if her daughter threw Mohsen out!

Pat.I hope you haven't had this horrible rain whilst visiting the Cemetery. It will be sad enough for you without miserable weather too.I have been thinking of you <3

Kim ,that does sound a really horrible bug your poor daughter has.Hopefully they will discover which type of bug in that sample.

Mel ,thanks for letting us know about Sheila's latest trouble. That must have been a dreadful shock for Michelle .Obviously this has come out of the blue about Moshen having a daughter. :-S :-S,and so upsetting with her not long ago losing her baby.

Mandy, good job you mentioned your turkey!!I need to take meat out too.James and Jess will be out for New Years Eve .I doubt they will be up until the afternoon on NYDay so we will be eating in the evening.

Maureen enjoy your evening tomorrow .I will be doing Lamb too on Sunday, plus a Chicken with Christmas stuffing and seasoning.NO MORE TURKEY!!!!!

I have just been up the tunnel and picked two green peppers, some small sungold toms, a pot of pink fir apple pots, two long beetroot and some chard. Had 6 eggs today so I think a fratarta (sp) for tonights dinner. Oh and three purple podded peas. there is still celeriac in there too. one butternut I did'nt pick has been eaten by mice of some sort as I can see their teeth marks on it and they have peeled it all over!! Wait till they reach the seeds. They will think it is Christmas all over again :-)

Jane

Jane Report 30 Dec 2011 17:21

LOL Mel ,I just read your post and thought you said the mice had Peed all over it :-D :-D.
I was going to do a Fritatta yesterday and chuck a load of left over bits in.But was just too tired. What will you add to yours?I am really fed up with meat at the moment. So tonight it is Pasta(with meatballs) for the others .Tomorrow I have 2 huge Pizzas(I,m sure Chris will moan about that),and then the big roast again on Sunday.

Ann I wish I did have some ear plugs lol.I did kick Chris out of bed about 3am and made him go and take some Cattargh mixture that I had just bought. He wasn't too happy to go downstairs really but I said "ok so we will both be kept awake then,I think I may as well read my book".That got him out :-D.I think that mixture did help him .It is the Covon** one.I have had it before and found it very useful.

Old Chester is spark out.I think it is doing him good to have a long uninterupted sleep. He can't cope as well as he did with all the coming and going of people over the Christmas and all the fancy food that he kept having little bits of.I think he could do with some Gavisco* ;-)

Sheila Report 30 Dec 2011 17:22

I remember when young going to the little local newsagents on the way from school it was an old house up some steps and dark and dreary inside with metal advertising plates all round. The lady opened a door with a glass front and the bell would go ding when you entered the shop. A black cat was always curled up on the counter. The shop smelt of cabbage I think this lady lived in the back through that glass door.

Can I help deary she would say I always asked for a penny pop a yellow strange looking liquid which could be mistaken for something else and a lardy cake. This was flat very big full of lard but I loved it. It spoilt my lunch .I walked all the way down Harborne Park Road with its bank of grass all the way to my house. I used to climb a tree with places to put your feet and my shoe would come off and stick in the knotch of wood in the tree. Sometimes it took several tugs to get it out. In winter I sometimes got a Number 11 bus it was big the bus yellow and navy in colour and I climbed on with my cold red knees showing and dug into my pocket which was full of rubbish. It would come tumbling out things like an old conker gone yellow not shiny anymore and a few old bus tickets and my favourite gobstopper sweet always yellow my favourite colour and a old marble glass like with a red ,yellow and blue inside. I used to sit for hours looking into it. Maisy the conductress would say ok kid got your
fare ready where you going. I would say a tuppenny one please and she asked me where you getting off .I told her the house by the gully and when we arrived she said hey Bert stop here . The bus stopped and I shouted ta and jumped off running into the house very privilaged and telling my mother that the conductress let me off the bus outside my house . Mum smacked my ear for eating a lardy cake before my dinner of cabbage lumpy mash and rabbit .i would pick up the bones and bite off the rabbit it was lovely. Could not do it now.

Well dear Maisie let me off that bus everytime right outside my house and she was always on that very same bus. I gave her my rationed sweeties chocolate satins these were small full of chocolate pointed shaped and in pretty colours. I would have them in a pointed bag Maisie said thanks and said I will have one you keep the rest. I felt pleased I had given her something and skipped off to my house.

One day it was snowing almost up to my waist and I got the bus which took ages to come and there was no Maisy just a very grumpy looking male who told me to move along the bus with shaking knees I pushed down the bus to the back it was warmer by the engine and peered into the driver the same one as usual. I was very shy and managed to force myself to say to the grumpy looking bus conductor man wheres Mais he said oh shes ill dying with cancer . I felt like I was going to die. I had to go
right down to the Golden Cross pub. I had to walk back to my house and was wet and cold. I told mum Maisies ill shes got cancer. I got a slapped ear that day for not eating my dinner.
.

One day being really shy I asked the conductor please where is Maisie he said Oh shes very ill only got a few months to live stomach cancer you know poor women. I felt sick inside and panicky and later managed by stopping and waiting at the change over place for the bus to talk to someone who new Maisie and found out her name and address. I talked my mum into taking me to her house and a small boy with red hair came to the door. Mum said is Maisie there my girl wants to talk to her .The little boy said my mummies ill and shut the door. Mum said come on now is not the time to ask for Maisie. in the Bham mail later she had died and I cried for days. I did go back many years later at 15 and the family had moved but the lady was local now old but she told me Maisie was buried at St Marys churchyard and I found her gravestone it said Maisie Hibbard
no bus can take you on this journey but you will go on a journey to Jesus
and rest in peace my love from Albert and Christopher.

I went back and got some flowers and wrote from the little girl who never forgot your kindness when you asked the driver to stop his bus at my house. I took Michelle after telling her the story of Miaisie and there was a man putting some plants on Maisies grave he was Christopher the son and he saw my flowers and remembered my message he said he weeped with pride and sadness his daughter was Maisie.

i have never forgotton Maisies kindness it taught me that there are good people and you should remember them. I however had forgotton until recently and I found an old book in my brothers loft hidden in my rubbish when mum left her home my brother gave me a case of old stuff I had when young sifting through it for one last time I found the notebook
it had Maisie 1949 my favourite bus conductress. i tried to trace her family tree but could not find anything .I did wonder if I got the spelling of her second name wrong could not remember sad really i wanted to trace her family tree.

Well boxing day night our electric went off for three hours we had to get a Italian electrician who charged us 450 being 150 for start and 50 pound each half hour plus a new box he made out he did us a big favour
when quoting well he did but spoilt by his charge price we had to get it done however and he did come out.
Some pig sent us a picture of a young girl picture sent to Mel to show you if anyones interested I have it on my web page she is called sirene and the person who sent it said it was Mohsens daughter. Michelle hit Mohsen so hard she cut his head then sent him packing out the house for good on his crutches . It broke my heart I have not stopped shaking and having a job to exsist hence the story to control myself or I might commit suicide. Perfect ending to a perfect year. happy new year from sheila. THANKS FOR YOUR KIND WISHES AFTER MY CHRISTMAS STORY loved that day even with the problems the vicar was pleased we had him he sent a nice bunch of flowers via the we site.

I'm so sorry about this latest upset(pic of the 'supposed daughter of Moshen).Whether it is true or not ,you don't need more stress.Chin up girl.
You did the right thing taking a bit of time out to post your great tale of Maisie. It brought tears to my eyes.

Annx Report 30 Dec 2011 20:51

That was a lovely memory about Maisie, Sheila and good you were able to find and visit her grave. It is a good idea to give a few things up and try and have some peace and quiet. Some things just have to work themselves out and if Mohsen has something to say about it I'm sure you will get to hear.

I was reminded of one of my jobs as a little girl the other day!!! Rolling up newspaper on the angle and turning the top bit over to make paper spills to light the fire.

Can anyone remember when we first had New Year's Day as a holiday?? I remember it being an ordinary work day for many years.
