Wet day and windy and COLD, had to wear a hat and gloves today first time this year. went shopping this morning took back a top I had bought on Monday for a Christmas lunch out but decided I didn't like it after all. So ended up spending some of the returned money on warm woolly tights will certainly use those lol.

I did enjoy that soak in the bath Jane but didn't fancy having to go out in the dark and cold to take the ironing back.

Poor Mandy, having said you hate being in a mess and then find the washing machine has flooded, hope it's all dried out now.

We always played out in the street as kids ....... no danger of being run over by a car ....... there was always someone out there to play with, you never see kids playing together these days, too many dangers.

The house is finished Ann, apart from the carpets that are going down this weekend, so should be able to rent it out after Christmas.

Good to hear Ellen is a bit more cheerful David, sometimes it takes a while to adjust to a new home and surroundings. I'm not one for change have lived in the house for more than 30 years.

My mum was strong too, mentally and physically, must have been the era they lived in, no mod cons then and living through a war, we don't know how lucky we are.

I am all finished now. Dinner allready for tonight. Showered and shaved, just sitting watching a bit of T.V. Real deal. Then Ade around Britain. Love the places he goes and thie things they do..

Maureen I think Parents of a certain age had to be strong. My mum had her Husband and two eldest sons off to war. My eldest sister away working in the ammunitions factory, with FIVE children to bring up under 7 years of age. I also remember her going to the BIG HOUSES to clean Two in the morning, the doctors house and surgery in the afternoon. No wonder we were Latch key kids. But never did us any harm, There was never any Loves and cuddles, but always cloths on our backs, shoes on our feet, good bellyful of food and a clean bed. What more did you need. We didn't know what presents were. Christmas, Birthdays etc. No wonder we spoil our children now.

I remember as a child asking for an Easter Egg. She told me she would hard boil an egg and I could have that.!!

On my 21st Birthday Mum gave me a £10.00 note and said Go and buy yourself something.

Frank ,I was a very lucky child and never really went without anything.I often wonder what my life would have been like had I not been adopted.Childrens Home I think like my B Siblings :-S.I know they didn't have a very happy childhood.
I have been buying a few small pressies on line (extras).I always have to laugh ,as each year we say we won't be buying lots of presents and yet when everything is put under the tree it is like a mountain :-D :-D.

A huge box arrived just now ,and I thought ooh I wonder what this is............It was only Chester's dog food :-S.At least he will not run out of grub. It's a 12 kilo bag.I have to buy it on line as I can't get it anywhere else now unless I order it through the Vet.

Sweet and Sour Chicken with rice tonight. It is a jar of Uncle Be** sauce but I always add some Baby Corn ,Sugar Snap Peas and Asparagus to make it a bit more interesting.Oh yes some orange and yellow peppers too.

Evening all,

What a day we've had ,firstly after the flood yesterday hubby looked at the pipe this morning and decided to take it off to give it a good clean, well you've never seen so much gunk in all your life !!! then he decided he would replace the pipe rather than clean it as it was so bad , it didn't stop there when he finally got the pie undone and off the wall it loosened the pipe outside which made it hard to screw the new pipe back on , so now we have to replace the pipe outside as well !!!

But as well as this we had loaded the car with the old carpet and underlay ready to take to the tip this morning ,so we had had to trot off there and be back in time to go out for our lunch with son and family .

We all enjoyed our roast lunch and the little ones were as good as gold ,we went back to theirs for a cup of tea ,we then called at a farm to get some potatoes ,a large sack of potatoes for £3.50 ,thought this was a good buy ,got son a bag too, so dropped that off and we're now back home and worn out !!!

Jane, What make is Chesters food. ??? I am sure you must be able to get it somewhere without paying carriage. i.e. direct from the manufactures.

Yes, I think of the children I knew who were far worse of than me. !!! We had a Barnardo's home quite close to us, and I made friends with a lot of the children, and they said they only got the bare essentials, in the homes. In fact I use to give them things that I had "OBTAINED" say no more !!!

Ros said she was going to Morrison# this morning, FOUR hours later she arrived home I said wherre the B hell have you been. Her reply "SHOPPING" didn't think to let me know. I got worried she might have had an accident. YOU WOMEN ;-) ;-) ;-)

Hi Everyone,

Lovely old lorry RB and how nice you found it! I remember the M1 opening and it seeming massive ......and empty!! lol Some of the local lads used to hop on it to go to the Blue Boar Services. It was the 'in' place to go then.....they thought they were 'cool'. lol

I don't think I had an easter egg until I was about 7 and then I only ever had just one. I remember one year it had little purple flowers iced on it.

Mum did some cleaning jobs when I was small. The first I remember was at the dowager's house on the Wolsley estate when I would ride on the back of her bike in those little seats. Then she worked at a Holiday camp on Cannock Chase. That was where I had my first dip in a swimming pool. I liked it there as they also had Poodle kennels. When we came to Leicester she cleaned offices at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and told me about the museum of 'pickled things'!!

Maureen, what a worker you are to have got the house finished!! I should ask for an Xmas. lol ;-) ;-)

Good you are up to going out now Fiona and making progress and sensible to wrap up warm. We forget it is often a bit colder where you are!

Frank Report 30 Nov 2011 19:02

Ros has renamed our Cat PITA I said what's that then. She said PAIN IN THE ARS#. He's getting a bit faddy on what he will eat. Cooked him Turkey last night and Pigs liver tonight. Hung round her feet while she cooked it. Hence the name. :-D :-D :-D :-D

Nothing wrong with a good Norfolk accent Mandy. I got use to it when in the RAF and stationed there for nearly two years. Are you a Norfolk Dumpling????

Going for a pint tonight and watch a bit of Football. Haven't been down for over a week. They will think I am DEAD. !!!!

Ann I remember an Easter Egg I had from my Uncle Bill ( he wasn't really an uncle). It has lovey iced flowers on the front purple violets and some little yellow flowers. It looked HUGE.It was put on the top of one of the kitchen cupboards with some other Easter eggs. They looked nothing in comparison with that one.I'm still never sure who this Uncle Bill was other than my Aunty Betty and Uncle Jan lived in a house that belonged to him.(Mel it is the house up the hill East of the Water)in Bideford. He bought me my little wicker chair that I still love ,my string of pearls(I wore for my wedding),my Big Ted,and a rug I remember that went beside my bed with the name Jane on it.I think he was a Butcher in Barnstaple (not sure about that spelling). He looked like the scary man from the Munsters.Slicked back black hair with a parting and a beaky nose.He looked like he should have worn a cape (bit vampire looking ) :-S :-S

Oh Mandy, one job always seems to lead to another doesn't it! You have had a busy day, but at least you had a nice lunch. There have been lots of children out with grandparents around here as the schools are shut.

We got a letter from the House of Commons today as we had all written to our MP about the planning application for the houses. He is in total agreement with us and says all our objections are sensible and thinks there are severe traffic dangers with it. He has spoken to a District and County Councillor who is extremely unhappy about it as well. Sadly, under the current system the Planning Inspector can change the District Council's decision.

The Conservatives are changing the system as promised in the General Election as they believe as far as possible that representatives of local communities should have the right to make these decisions......sadly too late for us. :-S :-S

I don't know if they were, but the eggs we had seemed to be thicker and have more chocolates in them then. That uncle gave you some nice things Jane, even if he did look a bit scary......Herman Munster!! lol I've forgotten the actor's name now, but I saw him in a film once and he still looked like Herman except his forehead wasn't as wide. I used to love the Munsters and the Adams Family. :-)

Fiona Report 30 Nov 2011 21:08

I remember Easter as a child, my cousin Helen used to come down and spend it with us she is 4 years older than me and we would always be in competition to find out who would get the most Easter eggs, we usually came kneck & kneck with each other as who ever came to visit already knew that Helen was with us so they always brought one for her too,
If you were lucky you might get a chocolate egg in a mug, I liked those you felt you were getting some kind of present too,

I used to like the Munsters and the Adams Family too Ann.

Oh says my hair is like the wife and I even have the grey bits!!!! :-|

Have had callers today and we were talking about the wind turbine that is proposed for up the road.

Then OH brought down the gas fire from the garage and I had to clean it all up and he took the front glass off so I could get all the cobwebs out where the coals are. It had been messed on by the birds that go in the workshop. All up and running now as it gets so cold in this kitchen sometimes if the wind is blowing from the east.

Just watching Kirstie at the mo.

Mandy what a todo with the pipe. These boys always give themselves more work when they try to do a quick job for us!!
