Mel Your dinner sounds wonderful. Wish we had Waitrose here but I think we are too far North, can only use when visiting the family.

No supermarkets in the 60's But do remember Us as a family going into Plymouth to the CO-Op on a Saturday sometimes. Then my parents splashing out on coffee and cakes in the Veranda Cafe in what is now Debenhams.(I think that is now where they sell undies and nightwear lol)I always had a double meringue with cream in the middle and a chocolate coating on the outside.ooooh! I can just see it now lol
On that lovely memory I am off to bed.
Night Night to you all xx

11.47am

No sunshine here, but dry and very cold. (BRASS MONKEYS)

We didn't eat last night. Ros only had egg on toast. and I had baked beans on toast. Had a nice sausage sandwhich this morning, and Ros managed a bit of cerial.

Had my new teleplones turn up this morning. Need a degree to understand how to set it all up. I'll wait till one of the boys come, because I will loose my temper with it. if it dosen't go right first time. !!!! The old one is still ok for the time being.

I went and watched the football down the local pub last night. Good to see Man United beaten. Loads of local faces, that I haven't seen for a long time, all seemed pleased to see me, and chatted through most of the match. What a nice chance. I think I will start to use it instead of the club. Not so far to stumble home. lol

Jane I hope you behave in the back seat of the cinema today.!!!

Hi All

Been to town this morning as its market day and bought makings for flap jack. We are off to visit son tomorrow and I always have to make some to take with us.Have also made shepherds pie and chocolate cake. As dil only has three weeks to go before the next baby arrives I am responsible for cooking for weekend so I can visit their Wait**se on Friday yippee.
Have made some progress with hubbies family tree today and discovered identity of his great grandmother.
Dinner for us tonight will be chilli and rice as I had some mince left over from the pie.
I am studiously ignoring the 240 envelopes and the ironing but suppose I should do some of each before the day is out.
Frank; Glad you enjoyed your evening out. As a neutral I thoroughly enjoyed the match, thought it very exciting and played at quite a pace.
Photos coming later

A lovely sunny afternoon here , but I'm sure it's cold out there , A really disappointing day today, I bought a beautiful white satin , dress , that had a netting skirt with little lilac roses, on the skirt bit , on Ebay , well it turned up this morning in a PO damaged item bag , which said sorry your item was damaged in our care printed on it , the dress is lovely it just has a 2-3 inch tear in the netting , so now i have to go through the palava of trying to get compensation from the PO, what joy !

Welcome John

, Now you are talking "RADIO MALT AND VIROL" I loved it in the 40s. It came in a waxed tub with a screw greased type lid. A spoonful every morning, and I would sneak a couple more when nobody was watching.

Ann, I am a West Ham man, always have been and always will. but I do like to see a good match and always support the English team in Europe.

Turned out a nice afternoon, but that wind can cut you in half.

Ros gone to see nurse re;- dressing. then on to have her nails done. Be home about 5.00. Think I will do S.S.pie,will be easy for her to digest this evening.

I trust Madam is back from Cinema, and extended lunch. When does she find time for HOUSE WORK ????? and womanly choirs.

Jane

Jane Report 2 Mar 2011 16:05

Hi John.VIROL!!!! I hated the stuff. It makes me shiver to think of it lol.MilPar was another big hate.I think I must have been quite a constipated little girl,as I seem to remember having to force down lots of big spoonfuls of the awful white stuff.

Mags what a shame about the dress.I hope you get the compensation quickly.Who was the dress for? It sounds so pretty.

Looking forward to seeing some of your pics Anne.Another new baby on the horizon. How nice. There have been a few over the last couple of years hasn't there.
When we used to visit Mum in her pre dementia days she always made Date and Walnut slices and a scrummy Coffee Cake. Her sponges always seemed to be about a foot high lol

I hope Ros's tummy has settled down now Frank.Nothing to do with her op is it?
As for behaving in the back row of the cinema ! Well really!!!!!
I might have misbehaved many years ago .Can't quite imagine it nowadays, especially with Fitz lol
I enjoyed the film but it was a little slow in places, and an abrupt ending.Chris has just got it on DVD so I can watch it again which I am sure I will.
I doubt I will be having much to eat this evening.I am still full from the Chinese at lunch time.I am also very thirsty now.I need another glass of cold water.

Afternoon All,

Ohh after a bit of sun it has turned very cold Brrrrr. What a shame about the dress getting ripped in the post Mags. Would you be able to disguise it with satin trim or ribbon?

Hope Ros soon feels better Frank. Nothing like an egg when your tum is a bit dicky. That's lucky that you still get nice fresh eggs. Ours come from the garden centre nearby where they have their own chickens......not as lovely as Mel's were though.

Hi John........I never had Virol, but I used to love cod liver oil and malt, thick and brown on the spoon which I would lick for ages after. I must have been the same as a little girl Jane, judging by how often the California Syrup of Figs came out!! lol I must say I loved that too. One thing I did hate was that Liquafruta cough medicine, tasted a bit oniony.

We ate out on spinach and ricotta ravioli in tomato sauce and rocket with garlic bread as OH has been helping by sanding down the bathroom ceiling ready for painting. I shall do the kitchen ceiling at the same time as I never did finish it when the kitchen was refitted. I must say it is nice to have some help with these things now as I hate doing all the preparation which is the most important bit.

Hi Everyone, A busy day today! so no 'Down' time (Is that what it is called?!!) Did housework and ironing this am, also peeled potatoes for supper; I have to do 'jobs' in the morning as my back is still cranky, and by the evening is pretty painful, but a lot better than it was; It is now just a dull ache, as if I've had a heavy load on it, shall be glad when it is better, won't be doing that again in a hurry!!!! This afternoon we both had a snooze (the joys of old age!!) and then it was Merlin and Millie time! Been a lovely day here, managed to hang washing out, sorted out the airing cupboard, and generally tidied up. 'A busy day is a happy one' again, according to my Granny!!

Welcome John please call in again as we need more men on this site to back up Frank and David.

Loved Radio malt as I said on my first posting.

Mags what a shame about the dress..........................trust the POto muck things up.

I have been in the tunnel for an hour this afternoon, clearing chickweed and the old plants. Pulled up the tomato canes ready to wash down for this year. I actually had my coat off in there and was quite hot.

Leeks are doing well in there and so is the purple sprouting broccoli which I have picked some of for tonights dinner with our steak ad a nice bottlle of red.

I haven't really noticed the weather today as I was in the cinema for the morning ,then the Chinese. But I do know it is blooming freeeezing now lol.
New pump for the central heating being fitted tomorrow afternoon.Fingers crossed all goes well and it runs properly and a bit quieter than this one.
But before that I have a hair appointment.I have my priorities right lol
The centre of town is a nightmare at the moment because all of the work that is being done,so I will be making sure I don't get caught up in traffic.

I have never heard of Malt and Virol. maybe we never had it in the North East or I was never constipated!!
Margaret Sorry to hear about the dress and hope you can get some compensation.
Jane Glad you enjoyed your day out. Hubbies grandmother always made date and walnut cake and apple pie when she came to stay and I cannot make it the same. We have fond memories of her cooking and she died in her sleep never having had a days illness in her life.
Well I have done about 50 envelopes and finished the ironing so feeling virtuous. Dil rang with the latest news. She is well and has had a few practice contractions so baby may be with us sooner than we thought.
The extra mince turned into Chile con carne and was thoroughly enjoyed.

Time to watch the news.
