Hi Maureen,

As if we could forget you!!........nice to hear from you. Happy birthday to little Finley .....he has grown hasn't he.......looks well into his new drum!! lol I can just picture his one legged walk, but it amazes me we learn to walk so young.....quite tricky really. You got 300!!!!!! I have only managed 245 yet!!

Frank I just noticed how many tablets you have to take.......you must rattle in the mornings?? Just like OH shopping......whizzes round and is done......no chance for me to browse. lol He does miss some bargains though.

Have a lovely holiday Anne and yes, some pics to show us please.

Fiona, you must be fed up with snow............ Shirl's pictures show she's had plenty too! The neighbours shovels were left handy I see. We softies down here don't realise how lucky we are. How nice getting a new computer!!

Have a good holiday Anne, see you in three weeks.

Ann, I have always been the same where shopping is concerned. If I need anything Ros, gets it for me, trourers, shirts, shoes. etc. I try them on at home, if they don't fit, she changes them. I hate walking around shops. They are only there to take you womans money !!!!

Jane, I would think Kelmash will be a bit iffy tomorrow. with all this wind. I know I will be indoors, unless I pop up and see WEST HAM PLAY. up the club. but I doubt it, Gone off beer. !!!

Mandy, I know what Katie feels like.!!!!

Mandy, just seen your posting.

Cardboard milk tops, were the norm. As a boy I would go to the local dairy and watch the cows being milked and the milk go through the system to the cooler, before going through the bottling plant.(if you could call it that). the machine would push the tops on. In the middle was a punched out hole about the size of a sixpence. When kids at school, we would push our straws through that centre bit. As I got a bit older I would go down to the dairy to be a Milkmans boy (help on the round) I would go into the cooling room, and there were glass's all around the top.. You could take a glass and scoop up a glass of milk. Wonderful taste. And of course that was before H & S.!!!

Jane Report 5 Feb 2011 21:19

Well of course I am far too young to remember cardboard milk tops lol
I just remember we had silver top milk, but on a saturday we had a gold.Full cream.I think Peter the cat had the top off that bottle lol(I don't mean the foil top) just the cream !.That was his weekly treat .
Still looks pretty wild out there.Every time there is a gust down the chimney Chester sits bolt up right lol.

I can't remember them either!! Before we moved to Leicestershire we lived opposite a farm and mum used to get milk from there in a jug.....before H&S as you say. She also made lovely egg custards with the first milk after a calf was born.....it was called something like beastlings??? I used to play on the farm and collect the eggs for the farmer's wife. One lasting memory is of the bull that was in a stall chained up with the ring through his nose. I was very wary of him!! Well one day I saw them letting him out in the yard and I had never seen him out of the stall before, so I stood on some bales of straw and peered over the wall to see what they were doing. All of a sudden the farmer came over and sharply insisted I go off and help his wife. I remember I was quite put out and wondered what wrong as usually no-one minded where I went. I have since realised the bull was probably having lady visitors!! lol

Well the tops of those bottles must have got really soggy if they were left out in the rain !!
We had the gold top milk ,i remember the cream on the top being really yellow and thick ,you had to put a knife round the top to release the cream !!

Hubby use to help on his brothers farm , he use to milk the cows and had the warm milk straight from the cow Yuk !!

Still no good at the old under water bowling !!

Night Night everyone

Mandy you have to hit the button just as the shell reaches the left hand side.

I seems to remember seeing some milk bottles and cardboard tops in a museum soemwhere as I am quite interested in old fashoined kitchen things. Were'nt they on those bottles that had a very large top. Tound with a little tab on the side for you to pull them off??

Morning All,
Not quite so windy today here but still dull grey skies.

I saw the Robin's this morning for the first time in about 3 days. They just don't break cover when it is windy.

Morning All
Still windy here, but dry.Hannah has gone to the gym and when she gets back if it is still dry we will risk going to see the Snowdrops at Kelmarsh. But first I need to have a shower and hairwash.
I wonder if Anne has arrived in Tenerife or is it Lanzarote? She may still be up in the air.

Not such a windy morning here today. Ian had a better night and so did I. Tomorrow we are back to Taunton Hospital HOPEFULLY to have the catheter taken out; this will make a big difference to mobility and general well being. Apart from that, the pain has almost gone, and Ian is just left feeling a bit rung out and tired, that will get better with time. Saw the programme about Bob Monkhouse last night; I always thought that I didn't care for him very much, but found the programme really interesting; I had no idea he had so much tragedy in his life, and then dying of Prostate Cancer was a really horrible thing to happen. Put the whole thing in perspective for us, and the feeling gratitude to 'The good Lord'?!! or whoever, for our escape! That's a point Mel, I haven't seen our Robin for the last day or so, I'm sure he's OK, as you say they hate the wind!

Jane

Jane Report 6 Feb 2011 11:07

Liz I watched it too last night and found it very moving. He was an incredibly talented man wasn't he.I welled up a bit when Joe Pasqualle was describlng his visit to him the day before Bob died.
Lets hope the catheter is out tomorrow .Has he got the bag to carry or does he have a leg bag.( I think they may be used if it is permanent)

Well I am all ready for the off.Just thought we had better take wellies as unless it is all on pathways it is going to be a bit mucky.

1.10pm.

I bet i've missed you Jane. On the radio this morning, they were talking about DEENE PARK. on the Stamford Road I think. They have 8 acres of snowdroops, and will be open next Sunday and the Sunday after. I thought that might be closer to you.

Patient well this morning, nurse came and gone before I got out of my PIT.

Going to watch football up the club after all. 1,30 kick off, so see you later.

Afternoon everyone ,
Still very windy here ,dry and not at all cold .

Finally got round to hoovering the car out ,and hubby washed it so its nice and clean .

I always think that its a shame the little snow drops hang their heads down ,the flowers are so pretty and you don't get to see them properly unless you lift the flower head up.
We passed a garden yesterday that was a mass of yellow flowers on a bank ,but as we whizzed by i couldn't see what they were ,could they have been those Celandines ? they are yellow , but it might be to early for them ,Mel will probably know .

Right i might have a go at the old bowling now .
