Liz thanks for the moving Christmas card. It was great and OH was looking while I went through it. Which must be a first!! He dos'nt usually look at those sort of things.
Have just taken all my cards down again as I have found that nice sparkly bobble string I had them on last year. Much more festive. Now I am going to put the cards back on it after removing some cobwebs I have just seen.
10.54am.

10.37am Would you believe it's minus 11 degrees out there this morning. Poor old Ros had to take Lewis to the dentist, a lad walking by helped me push the car off the drive, with the aid off the door mat tucked uner one of the front wheels. She phoned to say they had arrived O.K. They are then of to the cimema, to see Harry Pottter. Be home about 2.30/3.00pm
Yoyur just reminded me FOINA. When I worked in London as a young man. One of the boss's owned a Turkey farm, and supplied the Staff with turkeys every year I worked there. The firm were Produce Merchants. dealing in all type of oils and fats. which went into soap making. We would get presents of soaps from them, so were never short of AUNTIE type presents. Another Boss had bee hives and would supply us with honey and honey comb.
Thanks again for your kind wishes. Not sure what the arrangements are yet. But I will not be able to travel to Scotland for anything.
Would you believe, LEWIS wanted to start clearing the road outside of snow. "It will be easier for the car drivers" he said. Last night he sat in the chair with a glow in his cheeks. All that fresh air yesterday.
The Boys want to try to get to us on Wednesday, for you know what. I've told them not to risk driving in these conditions, as there is supposed to be more snow on Wednesday. If you are lucky JANE you might get some.
Our young neighbours came home last night, I ckecked with them in case they needed anything. She said they had just driven from Doncaster and didn't see any snow till Northampton.!!! There's none in Rutland either.

Well, there is certainly snow here today! Have had a really nice e-mail from some Dutch friends this am. My father was shot down with the crew of the Lancaster he was in, and killed 68 years ago today, ( a month before I was born)and over all these years the people in this particular village have tended their graves which are in in the village churchyard, and lit candles for them and so on, young as well as old participate and carry on this care from one generation to the next in gratitude for the sacrifice these airmen made all those years ago. Makes you feel really humble that they care so much and yet in this country after the war, Bomber Boys were shunned!! strange eh? they were fine while the going was tough, but politically unacceptable after the war was over! not a medal did my poor mother receive or any acknowledgement of the bravery of him or thousands like him! Oh well! it's a funny old world when another country reveres your 'fallen' and you don't!!!! enough of that! too near Christmas to be gloomy!!! OH is making flapjack, his contribution to Xmas goodies!! Laura rang (again) do you think she wants something?!!!! I jest, it's lovely to hear from her. Mark rang to remind me that it is his birthday on Wednesday!!! SO?!!! what's he expect me to do?arrange a party? OH said 'probably'!! I think M forgets how old he is!!!!

Liz, How true your words are.
In 1975 a group of men friends, did a tour of the war cemeteries in Holland, Germany. going to all the main battle fields and memorials. We Hired ENGLISH army uniforms, army personnel carriers, including a "DUCK" American Jeeps. We camped in log cabins. and were welcomed by the local Mayor to a grand dinner reception. It was an aniversary of a special date in the locallity,I think being liberated from the Germans. We meet a family, who invited us to his home. He ran a big uttilities Business, and breed Welsh COB ponies. Myself and my first wife stay friends with them until I got Divorced. They would visit us and we them. We were guest of HONOUR at his daughters wedding. I believe my EX and children are still in touch with the children. They always said they would never forget what the British Soldiers did for them.
Are you going to come clean with us Jane, about COLIN. ??? You know you want toooooo, to ease your guilty mind !!!!

Mel just heard on the news that Deveon & Cornwell are getting the weather rough, I hope you and your chickens are managing to stay warm. My nana used to have the same problem of cracked skin in the cold weather, mind she would go out with wet hands(in her younger days ) when hanging out the washing on the line her hands were always red and rough looking , arthiritis set in and I remember seeing her at night when she came in from work sitting watching the Tv with a big pot of handcream by her side rubbing away at her fingers
a friend lent me the series of Downtown Abbey, it wasn't on here in Scotland but she would watch it on the internet, so it has been doing the rounds and it's my turn , seen disc 1 , now time for disc 2 will watch the first episode then do some ironing BBL

Shirl I have ust had to put a few mincepies in the freezer as they are disappearing!!!!!! I wonder where they are going...................................
At this rate I shall have to make some more.
Well stocked up on wholemeal flower so I shall have to make my bread as the shop had had no deliveries of papers or bread.
As Iwent to do the chickens there was a great noise in the orchard and all the blackbirds and field fares flew into the air. I thought I had frightened them but as I looked there was the big hawk which flew off with a bird in it's feet.

Afternoon All,
Good job we have freezers with OH's like ours Mel. Mine nearly burnt his mouth not waiting for them to cool!
Jane, your OH's mask didn't work then......what a pain getting a sore throat now......fingers crossed you will be on the mend by the end of the week. Now who is this Colin then....tell all!!
Sorry about your dad Fiona, it must be upsetting that he is like this. I hope the hospital can get his medication so that he is calmer. It is right that it is probably better for both of you that you do not see him just now.
OH was up very early this morning and saying how bitterly cold it was before driving over to pick his parents up for the hospital appointment. (showed -9 in the car travelling there) They were very quick at the hospital, so he soon had them back at their home and went in to fill in the forms for them to do with disposing of the old car. I asked OH if the house was nice and warm now they had the new boiler. 'It was absolutely freezing when I picked them up with the front door and others left wide open like a barn as usual and radiators stone cold....... just the same when we got back' he said. His dad wanted OH to take his coat off when they got back, but OH said he was ok with it on thanks. lol I know they are tough, but in this weather!!!!........MIL with bare knees in those popsocks again too!! It isn't that they can't afford it either. They have just had £75 in cold weather payments and have been out buying a new crooklock for the car and photo albums to put their photos in etc. Still, it is their choice...... In the warm summer months we have known it to be sweltering with the gas fire turned up at times!! Never know what to wear when we visit. lol

Evening all,
Its been freezing here most of the day , the hairdresser came and cut my hair and my sister's , she also gave Chelsea a trim.
DIL stayed until three this afternoon ,i made christmas cards with Jake and Chelsea for mummy and daddy , i think they used all the glitter glue ,they got more on them and my table than on the cards but they had fun, DIL hadn't brought Katie a bottle as she wasn't going to stay ,she tried giving her her milk in a toddlers cup with a spout bit , but she wasn't having any of that she wanted her bottle ,so DIL walked to town to buy a bottle ,when she got back Katie wouldn't drink from it ,she knew it was a different bottle ,in the end she was so tired she gradually suck it and went to sleep .
Mel, i have to hide my mince pies or freeze them ,or they go the same way as yours lol
No sign of Colin today then !!!! lol we're all to young for him , do you think he wanted the GR Dating site !!
Jane, hope you soon get rid of that raw throat , hows OH is he better now he's passed it on to you ?
Fiona , sorry to hear your dads had a fall ,lets hope they can get his medication sorted and make him calmer so he can get some rest . 6.37

I think Colin may be a little red faced don't you.I think he got the wrong place.Nothing wrong with an afternoon of Fun though lol,but I am on the wrong side of 80 for him !
I don't have one Mince Pie!!! I must rectify that. But they will be shop bought.I want to have everything traditional for Hannah's friend from Australia. It will all be new to her and so different from a BBQ lol My poor Sister is just about snowed in.She has had a lot more snow this afternoon. Her eldest son's girlfriend cannot get back to where she lives and she has a little boy.Luckily he is with his Grandma, but doesn't understand why Mummy isn't there. I just can't believe how cold it is.It is crazy. The frost from this morning never changed all day.Even the horses had frost on their ears and faces this morning. The stable people couldn't pick up the horse poo with their spades or forks as it was too frozen so were just picking it up by hand .I assume they were wearing gloves lol
Someone is just home so better go and see who it is .

This afternoon we went a ride over to Oakham in Rutland and then on to Melton Mowbray. It was quite foggy in places and there was about an inch of snow, but the roads were totally clear. We saw a huge bird of prey sitting in a tree at the side of the road. All the animals are so hungry now it might have been hoping for some road kill. There was also a flock of birds on the roadside verge pecking at some fallen crab apples. At home we have hardly seen any small birds apart from the odd Robin, but something is roosting in the roosting pocket on the shed as there are droppings under it.
