You must have a good dentist or good habits

Heavy frost here, still don't like it.

Used to deliver papers as a boy in a foot of snow and never complain.

Fiona

Fiona Report 8 Feb 2013 09:35

Morning All

OH working in the study and has told me to be up so I can answer the door when the fella comes with some building sand,
OH laying slabs for base , he has bought a concreate shed it will be delivered in a few weeks time , looks more like a small garage than a shed, but it will be great to store all the wooden garden furniture and BBQ, and any other things that gets put in, he didn't want a wooden shed, we have got one of those already, this Garage look alike is going along side of the new exstension and against next doors wooden fence, they park their cars on the other side of this fence and if there was ever a fire the fence plus any wooden building next to it would be set alight.
The old garden shed is going behind our garage and OH will use it for the lawn mower and trimmer etc, that will free up some space in the main garage, it is chock a block at the moment , with a trailer and four bikes.

must go now, time to put the kettle on, thats what happens when your OH works from home, He is like his mother , always wanting tea all the time,

Frank Report 8 Feb 2013 09:53

Have you wet the bed Jane,???? You aren't on here at this time of day :-D :-D :-D

Fiona the way you are going with all these sheds/garages/extentions you won't need a lawnmower and strimmer. No grass to cut lol lol.

David, As kids we loved to get out in the snow. Like you I did two paper rounds in the morning and one in the evening. Never missed a day seven days a week. on top of that I did a milkround on Sat. and Sunday In the winter I use to keep my hands warm under the horses blanket. HEAVEN. did you also wear short troursers and have chapped legs ??? painfull.

I'm 70 David and have all my teeth except two, one right at the back which became very lose and the Dentist and I finally conceded defeat! and another one, again at the back which had a crown and developed decay UNDER the crown. I had it filled but about a year later it too became lose and had to go! I have terrible trouble with receding gums, and have to adhere to a very strict regime of cleaning which my new hygenist has advised! that way, I should, with a bit of luck, hang onto the rest of them!! I too have a mouthful of fillings and mends and three crowns!! My teeth have been a problem all my life as I had Osteomyelitis in my left arm at two months old and it affected the left side of my face and left me biting incorrectly. I had an abcess in my jaw which took ages to heal (M&B not penicillin as it was wartime!) as well as an operation on my arm which meant it having to be drained for weeks on end - all in all I was in and out of hospital for just on 6 months! no wonder my mother was the original 'hen with one chick!' what with one thing and another it was certainly a very bad time, and her only 24 years old! not sure how I would have coped, but I guess I would!

I wore short trouisers until I was 12 Frank
The first pair if long grey flannens(?) felt odd for a week or two

Well done to have all bar two Lyl

To be honest most of my extractions were due to neglect.

Jane Report 8 Feb 2013 11:02

Ooh Liz what a time you had as a little baby :-(.Your poor Mum must have been worried sick .
I have always looked after my teeth and have always had regular checks (without fail)I want to keep them as long as possible :-DMost of my fillings were done when I was much younger so they are getting old now .I have had to have some replaced.

I remember chapped legs.Always on the inside of the knees and just above.Oh the pain :-S and the bright red skin.My Sister used to get chapped cheeks a lot(Her face ;-) and they were so rosy.I think it was because she was always playing outside in all weathers.Whereas I was more an indoor girl lol

I have a nice Gammon in the oven.It was one I bought for Xmas ,but then Chris bought another. So Tonight I think it will be Gammon ,Egg and Chips :-D

Frank I never wet the bed :-P :-P........But I do remember once when I was about 10 waking up in the night and finding my bed soaked.I ran into Mum and Dad crying that my Hot Water Bottle had leaked.....I didn't have a hot water bottle that night lolol..The shame of wetting my bed at that age was humiliating.

Right ,I need to clean out that grate :-|

Mandy,how are you today???

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Feb 2013 11:08

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Rained here all night I think. It is so wet outside the chickens are paddling again.

I have only ever had my wisdom teeth out many many years ago. We had a smashing dentist but he retired and when I moved we never got another one.

Nice to see Fiona posting and it sounds like there is still a lot of work to be done at her house. At least a concrete shed won't rot and should last a lifetime.

Frank

Frank Report 8 Feb 2013 11:12

I was allways complimented on my wonderfull teeth. A smile to charm the birds out of the trees, and the girls of the street. lol
AND then came the stroke, I( spent more time than enough at the dentists, even to the point that one new year Conrad was taking us on the cruise, and I went to the dentist New Years Day and had an extraction, as I didn't want trouble while we were away. I and top and bottom plates. I am now left with FIVE teeth and top and bottom plare. WHICH I HATE, and try only to wear when I go out. With them in I can't taste my food, and don't realise how hot the drinks are. Therefor burn the side of my mouth. I did look into having the implants, but cost a fortune, even if you go abroard.
My friend with homes all over the place had them done and he can bite an apple like we did as kids. I think the whole treatment was in excess of £30,000.00. I would have to sell my body to raise that amount,!!! and who wants a good set of teeth, with no body to go with them :-D :-D :-D :-D

Very heavy frost here this morning, and looks cold out. I won't be going far so won't bother me.

My doves are cooing and billing in the cherry tree, this is where they nested last year, so who knows !!!

Yes David, the old grey flannels, What a turn on they were. I was only aloud to wear them at weekends, and had short trousers at school till I was 13/14 . Not a good image for a lad, but that was how it was.

My first best suit was when I was 15, for my brothers wedding. The week before it, I went out with my mates to see some girls, ON MY BIKE, I got the turnup caught in the chain, and got covered in oil, together with crank holes in the turnups. I went to a local garage and drained the petrol pump hose onto a clean white hankie and cleaned away the oil stains, I never got caught by my Mum, with the holes in my trourers.

Funny how things come back into the old grey matter :-D :-D :-D

Hello everyone,

A hot one here today.

David to answer your question, most people don't own guns and you have to have a licence, so I expect the police would do stringent background checks, etc. It would be gun clubs, farmers, hunters who would have them. The bad element in the community would get them anywhere and I think there would be illegal shipments that Customs would not always detect.

Since the current government has relaxed the border protection laws we now have gang wars and all that entails. Franks there are thousands arriving each week from Indon**ia and Sri L****. They disable their boats and send distress calls to the Navy to come and get them. Detention centres are overflowing. It would not be a problem if they were genuine, but they are cashed up people from countries not at war. Many find the detention not to their liking and are flown back home at the Aus. taxpayers expense. We have a very weak gov. who I hope will be defeated at the next election.

Many of these people are bringing their mindsets and grievances to this country and we are going through a similar situation as you are and France. They are taking over areas where normal law abiding families live and turning their streets into blood baths. I had family members who are now passed that lived in these suburbs when they were peaceful, not any more sadly.

Mel your little Hogwart is a very cute fellow, I loved the photo.

My daughter is going for a job interview on Monday, so please keep your fingers crossed for her. She is going to have to learn that she needs to catch a bus and dad can't be around all the time.

Not much on telly, but I'll go and watch a DVD. Downton Abbey returns on Sunday night; am really looking forward to that.

Mandy I hope you get your strength back very soon.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe. 10.16 pm ADST

I'm the same Jane, in the interest of keeping my own teeth I have always looked after them and had regular check ups since I've been old enought to be responsible for myself (we both do) - before then I was taken regularly from a toddler upwards. We were lucky though, as after my mother married again, the dentist we had had been a school with my stepfather so we had an inroad!!!
I can remember getting chilblains on my toes and heels, they itched and hurt!!!
Off to get my pills, sunny here, so washing may get put out for a blow!

Jane Report 8 Feb 2013 16:34

Mandy .Watch out.Your OH might want to swap roles and send you out to work lol.
I hope you are feeling well enough by the time your Birthday arrives.

I am yawning my head off this afternoon.Maybe it is the fire that's doing it and the heat from the iron lol.I was watching all the birds coming out for their dinner. It's funny as I can almost guess what time they will be feeding. It seems the same each day.

Kim I do hope all goes well with your Daughters interview .I'll keep things crossed for her
:-D I wish James could get some interviews :-|

Frank

Frank Report 8 Feb 2013 16:36

Afternoon all,

Brilliant sunshine as it's setting.. Ros has still got the sheets on the line, and she's out at Tesc# getting bits for a stir fry tonight. So I had better get them in before it gets damp.

There is talk of snow over the weekend again. and staying cold.

David I do remember seeing womens legs that had been sat in front of the fires. Blotches all over them. My SIL had a habit of standing with her back to the fire, with her skirt pulled up at the back, I think she must have had terrible burnt legs, but only being a small boy I wouldn't have seen them ;-) ;-) ;-)

Kim, what sort of job is your daughter looking for.???
I didn't realize you had that much trouble with the "Foreign Jonnies" I suppose we all have them coming to our Countries. Some I don't mind but the amount over here is getting out of hand. They do say that Polish will soon be our 2nd language !!!
Good luuck for your daughters interview. A job will do her the world of good.

BBL.

William Report 8 Feb 2013 18:03

Seems I got the teeth debate going great guns eh? I can't say I have ALL my own teeth, but apart from this plate the teeth I do have are my own. However I don't think the plate and me are gonna be friends so come April I think I will opting for bridge work. The reason being that now the root from the crown has been removed I still have one big tooth to the top right sitting on it's own. My theory is the bridge work will save that tooh from becoming weak in the future then having to be taken out.
Anyway, the soreness continued through last night, I couldn't bear anything on my palete and the gum was so sore. Also the soreness was spreading up towards my nose. The dentist saw me first thing this morning and said the blood clot that usually promtes the healing had gone causing the area to become infected. So strong antibiotics now for the next seven days.
Jane, about car service elsewhere, not sure how Renault works, but I've had Nissan's now for years and once the warranty is over I've had them serviced in other cheaper places. As long as the service book was signed up I've always managed to get a very decent trade-in with Nissan dealers in the past.

Going back to the past, I was thinking about the word 'home'. I know we all live in our 'homes' now, but thinking of the past, what do you consider 'home'? Like I'll say something to Carmel and she'll refer to Dublin as 'home'. Get me going and I think of my childhood years in the family house in Chadwell Heath. Close my eyes and I can go through every room in the house, every period when there was a change - all as clear as if I was watching them on film. To think someone bought the place once Mum (long gone) then Dad going into a care home had long gone. Any changes they made would be totally alien to me now. But then again, they made it their 'home'. So there's always something special about your original home. Even when I moved to the Midlands, once a month I would drive back down to Essex - and tell everyone I was going 'home' for the weekend. Just something more to think on.

Please don't write about food until my mouth clears up! I've been living on soup and all sorts of queer unsatisfying soft food. Tonight I broke up two fairy cakes, heated a can of custard, mixed the whole lot up and thoroughly enjoyed it and managed it. The first time since Tuesday I' felt full up!

Frank

Frank Report 8 Feb 2013 18:05

Jane Report 8 Feb 2013 18:30

William ,your poor gum sounds so painful :-(Hopefully once the tablets get to work it will soon heal .Porridge will help fill your Tummy .
I have had Renaults for maybe 25 years.I do like them.I too have always had good deals when trading in my old ones for new My 3 year Warranty runs out at the end of this month.Normally I would be changing the car now ,but have decided to keep it for maybe another year and have taken out the extended warranty. It didn't seem a bad price .So I am covered again :-D.I am hoping that while my car is in 'for treatment' etc that they might give it a good clean....It is filthy :-S

As for our Bins..We have a label tied on the the handle telling us the revised day.It is only in English !

William .Home to me is Plymouth.Always has and always will be.I have lived here since 1985 but have never thought of it as home.Yet my Sister calls' home' wherever she is living.I always aid I was going home each time I went back to Plymouth.Sadly I have no family left there now :-(

Fiona ,at least all your work now is going to be outside so hopefully you won't be getting a lot of noise going on.
