Don't even go there Mel :-0 :-0 :-0

Well at last we are clear (the drain) Harvey arrived about 6.30 pm. We got started with him rodding from one end and me plunging from the other. No Bl###y luck. After half an hour. He managed to break another rod. He went to his truck and bought out his own. After a further 20 minutes, the crap started to move, finally, what would you believe a TOP of a tub of cream or what ever came into the drain, followed by more and more foul water. He managed to grab hold of it before it went down the main drain. Ros ran the taps in the kitchen, bathjroon and flushed the toilet, till clear water ran through thje gully. How a thing like that got down the drain, I will never know.

I have had another shower, but you can still smell the foul water. :-| :-| :-|

Steak, chips onions, mushrooms, and B B for dinner. Ros is washing up as I am comletely CREAMED CRACKERED.

Will settle down now in dressing gown with a few beers, I have earnt it :-D :-D :-D Might pop back later if I don't drop of to sleep. !!!

Well, what a lot of trouble that lid caused Frank!! :-S :-S It must had gradually turned till it was blocking the pipe! As you say, how on earth did it get there.........unless it had been there for years and only recently moved and become a problem. I bet you will ache all over tomorrow after your efforts, so I would have a rest if I were you.

Frank, some plumber mates of mine have in the past been called out to rod drains.Tampons dirty nappies, all sorts have been the causes of obstruction.
On new builds its been known for concrete left by the bilder to be the cause.

Morning all/Evening Kim. White rabbits and all that !!!!

Restless night. including cramp/ !! Was in bed about Midnight. slept for a couple of hours, and then seemed to toss and turn for an hour, then back to sleep, and off it went again.

I've got aches where I didn't know you could get them.

I have a lump on my head from Harvey rodding the drain and the end of a long piece hit he on the top of my head, a brass end, good job it was my head and not my face.

David, I have had the experience. When the young neighbours moved next door she would insist on putting all the baby wipes down the toilet, Thats when I bought the DRAIN RODS. I was everylasting having to clear the blocked drains. I finally told her to stop putting them down the toilet, and to put them in the black bin, The blocking stopped overnight !!!!

Had a drop of rain in the night, and thankfully the wind seems to have dropped.

Breakfast this morning. Smoked Salmon on toast. POSH OR WHAT.

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month.

Morning All and Evening Kim,

It poured here in the night but today is quite bright and dry except the ground which is soaking wet and muddy.

Frank I am so pleased you managed to clear that blimmin drain and fancy it being a lid down there. Do you share the drain with anyone or is it just to your property?

I remember when we lived in the bungalow at Redbridge and we had a manhole in the garden which served three bungalows. Dad was always having to rod the blimmin things.

I had a great time last night with Peter .Lots of laughs and I didn't get taken away by the Raggle Taggle Gypsies :-D Got home about 10.30 and slept like a log.I think the wine helped there lol

Hannah and John are moving to the new flat today. She called just now as she was waiting for John to get there with the van.He has been off work for the last week as he has been unwell with a throat problem. He had to have a camera up his nose and down the throat the other day and has more different antibiotics.Nothing seems to be working. If it doesn't improve he will have to have a biopsy :-S

I need to get a load of towels in to wash.I seem to have a huge pile of them :-|

Frank Report 1 Feb 2013 11:26

Oh you have arrived then Jane !! Glad you had a good evening with your brother.

Yes Mel, the young couple next door have a drain into the man hole in my garden, hence all the trouble with the wet wipes a few years ago.

Harvey seemed to think that the colour of the lid (BLACK AND FULL OF GUNGE) that it could have been there some time, and something disturbed it and it's just the size of the drain outlet, I think with him roding from one end and me plunging from the other, with all the hot water, iy disturbed it. (THANK GAWD IT DID) I could just imagine having to dig up the whole area to sort it out. Dosn't bare thinking about.

Good luck to Hannah and John on there new move. Hope she will be happier this time. !!! <3 <3 <3

I'm all showered again this morning. Cleanest boy in town !!! Still in dressing gown reading Emails etc. Will get dressed in a mo. then it will be my book and coffee for a few hours.

WHO DOES A GOOD MASSAGE ?????

Fiona Report 1 Feb 2013 11:30

Morning All

Just a quick note while I can,

Not been very good for the last 2 weeks head flared up again and through the hospital doctor my GP put me on new medication, which did not help the sensitivity in the head but gave me once again rotten side effects, terrible leg cramps at night, several nights of no sleep, no strength at all and I have not been able to wash my hair for 2 weeks,
Went to see the hospital doctor and he has told me to stop these pills and go back on the other ones which gave me some benefit before my head flared up.
He will keep a check on me and we will see how I am for the next 3 or 4 weeks , if no benefit again , back to trying something else.
I am so tired its now coming up for the tenth month with this head problem :-( :-(

Haven't read through posts but hope everyone is fine.
love to all <3 <3

Oh how the other half live :-D Smoked Salmon for breakfast :-D LOL
Glad to hear you've got the drain cleared now Frank, what a job, who would have thought a lid would block a drain like that .

Jane, glad you enjoyed your evening with your brother ,its nice that you can meet up now and again, what a shame the others are not so keen to meet him though.
Hope Hannah and John get moved in ok today and have a happy start to their life together .

Read the other day that the post code area NR19 is in the top twenty of safe places that have no break ins ........having said that our Tesco's petrol station was broken into some time last night :-S :-S

Thanks Ann for that , no hurry when ever you've got time :-)

I must say it is good to hear from our Fiona. What a long time to have headaches!! Must be awful for her. Sending love and wishes . <3 <3

Well the washing is on the line and the sun is still out at the mo but the breeze is very sharp and biting.

Heard a shot go off over the back this morning and looked out and oh came out of the workshop to have a butchers and a deer ran out of the wooded area and across the field next to us. We heard two shots in all. There were two men with dogs and guns over the back quite near the house.

We had a blocked drain here once a long time ago and when oh rodded it with a big pipe we had he pushed a load of like white plaster stuff out. I don't know whether the fellow who had the place before had washed buckets out in the sinks from putting archtex? on the ceilings or whether it was an accumulation of scouring powder over the years but it was about three quarters of an inch thick!! and we have our own sewage system!!

F,do you live near a sauna or turkish baths?

That would not only clean every pore it would take away your aches.

Anyone remember those metal gratings you used to get inthe pavements with the thick glass tiles in them to let light through to the basement?

We used to have one in Holsworthy until they relaid the pavements with pavers. I shall have to have a look next time I go in and see if it is still there. It was by the big pub.

William Report 1 Feb 2013 14:56

Hi folks, happy February, pinch punch and all that.

We can all breath a sigh of relief now that Frank finally has his drain cleared - what a palaver! Something so simple can cause so much trouble. These 'five minute jobs' always come out the worse.

My problem this week has been the crown on my big tooth. It came off just before Christmas and my dentist fixed back in place but warned me there wasn't much surface of 'peg' left to make it a long term job. Then Sunday evening, dunking a biscuit and next thing, the crown was in my mouth, lucky I didn't swallow it. So Monday morning, I trotted along to the dentist and he fixed it back again. (Luckily my dentist is only 5 minutes away) Back home, soup for lunch, some bread to dip in my soup, and - wallop - there's my crown making another appearance. So back I went, and he said he'd have another go at it but it may be I' -d a/ have to have the root extraced - b/ have a plate until the gum healed, then- c/ long term bridge work. Meanwhile, I'm listening to him and working out my bank balance and crossing my fingers. So that was Monday, then yesterday afternoon I barely touched the crown with the tip of my finger and , presto, off it came again.
I've got an appointment for 8.30 in the morning so I'll see what's going to happen then, if he takes the root out or schedules it for during the week. I know there is a maximum charge for NHS dental work and at least I'll get a bit back from my BUPA scheme, but this time of year is always expensive without this coming along. I guess at my age and considering a wartime upbringing, I'm lucky to still have my own teeth.

Clouding over here now, maybe the forecast wet stuff is on the way. Hoping to see my son and his family up from London this weekend, been a while now. Another reason to hope the dentist put off the extraction till next week.

Phew! What a morning we've had. Overslept, always a bad sign! Chased about as we had the Dentist at 11.30! I had a couple of emails to answer, both to do with my WW2 research. One is very interesting as this chap has answered a thread I am posting on. It turns out that his father went to school with my father, not only that they were best friends! Incredible or what?! not only that, the 'friend' had a sister who is in her mid nineties and would love to get in touch with me; apparently she visited 'us' in hospital after I was born! Another thing I knew absolutely nothing about! OH and I have been over and over it and have come to the conclusion that for my mother, the whole thing was a 'closed book', perhaps her way of coping with grief and protecting me - who knows. Anyway I'm hot on the trail now!!!
Got to the Dentiist, my teeth are fine, but OH has to have a root filling and a crown!! big long face ;-) For years I've had to hear how good his teeth are, but now, well, boot on other foot comes to mind!!! I had the hygenist after my inspection and as you say Jane, they can be a bit fierce!! but now I'm, done and dusted for another three months!! After that Tesco's beckoned!! After that Horse food and carrots, then finally home!!
So glad your evening went well Jane, As you know I think it's really nice for you to meet up with lost rellie, helps to get things into perspective so to speak.
Hope all aches and pains are on the mend, Frank you really musn't go scridgating around more than you can help! it can be SO painful! Thanks for the emails, you always entertain me!!!

Mel, I was only thinking the other day about those glass tile thingies. In the "FAMILY ROOM" basement in the London Hospital, you looked up at those in the pavement, and watched people walk above you, you could only see their shadows, but heard every footstep.

Fancy finding that out Liz, after all these years.

Will, You will have to stop "dunking" biscuits and bread, it must be didlodging that tooth.

David, In town they do have "massage parlours" not I don't think they do that kind of massage :-D :-D :-D

What a pleasent afternoon it is now. Sunshine and no wind. Have you noticed how the evenings are drawing out ??? Soon put the clocks forward !!!

Tesc# has had these small packs of S S on offer, that why I have been treated. <3 <3 <3

Roast Lamb tonight. First time for a while, Roasties, parsnips, sweetheart cabbage, carrots, french beans, and baby sweetcorn.

Ros is at her sewing machine, swearing at it. The cotton keeps coming out of the needle, I do have to laugh when she sets off !!!!

Time for a cuppa and biscuit, and put the lamb on low, for a nice slow cook.

William you be raiding the Piggy Bank for your tooth !We have to do Denplan now so even though it is monthly DDebits it is a nice feeling not to have to fork out a horrendous amount all in one go.

Liz it is horrible when you oversleep and then have to rush.It puts you out for the rest of the day :-S

I think it feels cold now and have turned the heating up several degrees.I wish I had laid the fire now. That will on the list for tomorrow now.

Frank those glass squares >I think it was the toilets at Bretonside Bus Station where you would be on the loo and see peoples feet passing overhead.I always felt a bit uncomfortable thinking that anyone could look down and see someone on the loo lol even though i knew they couldn't.

Tonight is an easy meal for me.Southern Fried Chicken and Potato Wedges with peas,Asparagus and baby corn.James is out .I bought a massive Pizza so he has taken it to share with a friend.

Fiona I'm so sorry that your poor head has flared up again, especially as you were doing so well.I didn't like the sound of those side affects you had from those tablets.Hopefully your new ones will work for you.

Hope all our drains are flowing freely tonight ;-)...Brrrrr I do feel chilly :-S.
