Afternoon All,

The iciest bit we found today was at the doctors' surgery when I went to collect my prescription. OH said they must be expecting people to sue so haven't touched anything but heaven help anyone who normally struggles to walk !! Another school rang at 3.00pm and called their meeting off tonight so OH is getting fed up with them as, apart from the side roads, the other roads round here are absolutely clear now.

I hope you're taking it easy today Frank, that was a nasty fall!! Loved the emails today.....a real pick me up!! lol.

Thanks for that Mel, the little bird is what we would call a Hedge Sparrow around here then. :-) I didn't realise a Dunnock was the same thing till I looked it up.....learn something new every day!

Our bin men arrived later than usual but didn't drive down the last bit of the close where it is narrow.

My wellies arrived but have to go back as the tops are just too narrow.....feet are so comfy too!! :-(

It's a pity James couldn't have sold his car for spares, Jane. I would have been gutted if it was me.

When we went for our carvery today, just as we were nearly there a cat jumped straight up off the pavement right onto the snow covered roof of the place!! I don't know how it managed to leap so high as it was much higher than a fence or managed to not slip off!! I snapped it quickly through the car window, so will send it on.

Can someone please send me Maureen's pics too? :-D

Frank

Frank Report 22 Jan 2013 17:43

We have the freezing fog also. Could hardly see down the close this afternoon.

Have cleared the snow from the patio to the garage and from the garage to the back gate. We need (well I do) to get to the garage for the big freezer and tumble dryer. All salted, but will have to watch my step. !!!

Pork loin steaks, Mushroon and onions in a cream sauce. Roast pots, parsnips, cabbage and carrots. That should fill us up for a while.

What colour have you gone this time Jane. Blue rinse ????

Keep warm everyone, bee back later. When HOLBY starts

Chickens all shut in and I don't have to go out anymore.

Our bin men still haven't been.

Do you remember those home permd from years ago called Twink?
Mind they used to stink!

Annx

Annx Report 22 Jan 2013 18:37

Oh I remember mum and the Tw*nk David. I used to keep well out of her way while she steeped her hair wrapped metal curlers in it! It would make my eyes water!! It always seemed ages before she could wash it off and then the pong would be all over the house for hours. I have no idea what modern perms smell like, must ask MIL.

What a lot of snow your friend has in her garden Mandy, it looks lovely. That icicle is fantastic.....I've never seen one like that!! :-)

The FOG hasn't reached here yet. :-)

Jane

Jane Report 22 Jan 2013 18:56

Wow ,that cat!!!.Silly Puss :-S
Mandy that is some Icicle your friend has !.Lovely garden too :-D
I didn't know that the little 'sparrow' was Dunnock.I think we have some here.
Our recycling bins have just gone out.I don't think there will be a problem with them being emptied tomorrow.

BLUE RINSE !!! Cheeky Beggar :-P.I'm a nice golden honey.( well I don't really know ) but that sounds nice lolol

Ann James got £133 for the car which I believe is not bad for scrap value. He seemed to think he did better that way rather than breaking it up.(Plus I didn't fancy having a wreck sat in the driveway).I must get him to check they have sent an email of the certificate off proof off disposal.
It was rather sad seeing these big claws on chains clamping the roof and lifting it out over the gateposts and onto the top of another car .The man was off to get two more cars.

I see the west country is getting a shed load of snow now.
Liz does that include you???? What have you been baking today?

I got the money through for the cost of my Laundry today :-D and a cheque for the electricity used for the dehumidifiers .So that is everything now.About time too I say.

Chris is just pulling in.He will be surprised to see that James 's car has finally gone :-D.I did have to laugh when the car was moved as underneath is all the rubbish washed there from the flood.Bits of hedge, tree bark mud and muck.

William Report 22 Jan 2013 19:27

Hi everyone, tis me again. BBC news is forecasting yet more of the white stuff and it don't look good :-(
I was thinking when I came up to my den to come on-line, a lot of us are stuck in because of all this snow and yet here we are, all over the country, and even all over the world, and we are company for each other, sharing our tales and photos - even if we can't get outdoors.

Love your latest photos Ann, that cat was certainly some daredevil, I had to look twice as I couldn't believe it the first time! It's a wonder the snow didn't come down in an avalanche! Hope I've got the right person who sent them?!? I wish I'd taken my mobile with me when we went to the doctors this morning. The Christmas decorations are still up (council) and the stylised spiral Christmas trees looks lovely now they have unexpected circles of snow on them too!! At least our our surgery had made an effort to grit a a path from the road to the entrance. The trouble was it made it so slushy that it was safer to walk on the trodden snow at each side.
A nasty thought struck me as we were out this morning. I thought 'when this lot thaws, I hope it doesn't mean floods for some poor folk again'

Jane

Jane Report 22 Jan 2013 19:58

Oh William,I hadn't thought about when it thaws.I bet some people will be on tender hooks now :-(
My friend in Plymouth just rang and she is feeling very left out.Not one flake has fallen in the area she lives.

I haven't seen my squirrels for a while (since the snow has been so deep).I think they have found a different way around the garden to get to the Peanut Ball. But I'm sure they are still getting to it as the amount of nuts that go each day is phenomenal ,and it can't just be the little birds.

Liz I like Miranda Hart .Love her in The Midwife, but find her programme so stupid and not funny.I have her book too which I am not particularly taken with,so have left it for now and will take it up again at some point.
As usual I just laughed my socks off at Mrs Brown last night and watched it again on my phone in bed this morning lol.

My hair was just dried off at the hairdressers and not blow dried. It is as flat as a blooming pancake.I'm going to have to wash it again in the morning and get it right :-S

Frank

Frank Report 22 Jan 2013 20:54

Thrust the old Bug### to remember the name of the perms.
Shirl, you know that song" just like a rubber ball, i'll comes bouncing back to you" thats ME.

The bruises are getting bigger and bigger. The one on my thigh has a lump in the middle. Is that a burst vein ??? I know it's B painfull. The one on my shoulder has changed colour since this morning, when I showered.

The Loin steaks were lovely tonight, as was the rest of it. Ros had stewed plumbs afterwards. I passed as usual, I don't eat FRUIT. I'm fruity enough :-D :-D :-D :-D <3 <3 <3 AS IF.

Look out Mel and Liz, it seems to be coming your way. The forcast is not good for anyone for a few days ahead.

As you say will, No matter what the weather, we all seem to be able to pass a few hours chatting to each other.

I'm ready for bed, but won't be going for a few hours yet. I just needed to get out of cloths, as I am so hot, Temp in hall is 21 degrees but feels more like 30 to me. HOT FLUSHES. You know what I mean Girls.

Have been looking at insurance quotes for the car. My renewal is £260.00 so I thought that a bit much, got quotes Full comp with only £100 compulsory excess for £156. and with a voluntary £100 as well for £142. Still got others to look at.

Ros's Generator iron is starting to spit out bits of black stuff with the steam. We can't descale it, so I am treating her to a new one. Who says I don't LOVE HER. When I told her that. she almost threw the old one at me lol lol

See you all in the morning, sleep tight, and keep warm.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 22 Jan 2013 20:57

Yes perms Twink Toni and Dream and they all stunk like a skunk.

Even when mum had a perm here with the travelling hairdresser they stunk the house out. I used to have to hold my breath if I was in while she was having it done.

We had snow this afternoon and then rain and then snow and then rain. Nothing settled needless to say and tonight it feels warmer out there.

I still hav'nt seen Maureen's pics if anyone can pass them to me I would be gratefull.

Annx

Annx Report 22 Jan 2013 21:24

Shirl, that's not a bad idea! Might be best if he wore a ONESIE then it could just be stuffed with the cotton wool!!!! :-D LOL. Thanks for sending on Maureen's pics.

Maureen you had quite a bit of snow looking at your pics. Little Alfie is quite big now.......it's all the TLC you gave him!! He and Coco seem to get along well. We have pipes running under the wood floor and it gets quite warm where they are. OH says that is where you would find cats laying if we had any. I still love that pic of Alfie sitting with all 4 feet on the router!!

Jane I was meaning to sell the car to a breaker's yard for parts!! lol Not for James to be dismantling it in the drive. That sounds a better price than some pay for scrapping a car.

Mel, I've just tried sending on Maureen's pics to you, but you may already have them from Shirl as she sent them to us both.

An early night for me now, post office first tomorrow to post the wellies back, then hopefully down to the canal with OH and my camera.......it was frozen right across when we went over the bridge in the car this afternoon.
