Hi Frank, yes drinking plenty and icy poles too. Cold flannels around the neck help. I would hate to think of any of you visiting here now, it would be awful.

Kim the Stoat is the animal and it's pelt is Ermine. Like on the queens robes. The fur goes white in the winter on the stoat but the tail stays black, hence the black flashes on the queens robes. The fur on the robes is the winter coat of the stoat.

Kim try this site and you will see the fur round the edge of her coronation robe is white with black flecks which is the tail of the stoat.

Hello all
KIm it's good to see you posting :-D :-D.My what temperatures you are having :-0.I wouldn't be able to cope with that.I much prefer cold weather.Just as we have now well maybe not quite as cold.
We are having this very fine snow at the moment, but it is settling more than you would think.I have fed the birds twice so far.I think the snow is going to get heavier as we go through the day.I did pop out for a few more supplies, but that is it now.

Frank I think you will be traveling to Rutland in some miserable weather.I reckon you will be staying put and not venturing out until you come home again ! Unless you have a game of snowballs or make a snowman :-D

Kim Have a great party for Keith.Belated Birthday wishes to him <3..I bought Chris's birthday card this morning and got those gold stick on numbers for 60 lol,not that he will want reminding of his age :-S

What's the weather doing now Mel.Any more snow??.Just looking out and it looks like the flakes are getting bigger and heavier.I think I will go and get more logs in from the shed.It is amazing how many we have got through since we had the load delivered.

Ooh I haven't heard about a quake near Ann.Must watch the news.

Right off to get the logs

I meant to put this up the other day after Frank was talking about getting a metal detector.

An amateur prospector has made the find of a lifetime in southern Australia, unearthing a gold nugget weighing about five kilograms (11 pounds) just outside the town of Ballarat, reports said.

The Y-shaped deposit was found with a hand-held metal detector at a depth of a little over 60 centimetres (24 inches), according to a video of the find posted on YouTube.

"The prospector said it sounded like the bonnet of a car through the headphones," wrote TroyAurum, who uploaded the video.

"It was lying flat (broad side up) and he carefully dug it up."

The find, made on Wednesday at a popular prospecting site outside Ballarat 110 kilometres (65 miles) from Melbourne, was confirmed by the owner of the town's gold shop, Cordell Kent.

"A lot of people think Victoria's goldfields are dead and that there's none left, but he (the prospector) has worked in an area where a lot of people have worked in the past but he persisted and he's been rewarded," said Kent, of the Mining Exchange Gold Shop.

Kent said the 177-ounce nugget, which he was working to find a buyer for, was among the biggest he had seen in 20 years in the gold business.

"We have 800 prospectors on our books and only a couple of those have ever found a nugget over 100 ounces," he said, adding that the sum total of his own finds was little more than 100 ounces.

"There's only been one or two big pieces and they were found a long time ago."

Kent said the nugget was expected to fetch more than Aus$300,000 (US$315,340). The prospector wished to remain anonymous.

Ballarat and its surroundings were a key site in Australia's gold rush in the mid-1800s, which brought a flood of migrants and transformed the economy.

Well we have ventured out and got two sack of spuds and a tray eggs from the farm, we got some for son too, he also wanted a Snow Shovel so we called at Te*co's to get one and they had all gone !!

We stopped at R*y's shop and they had one left ,when we looked at it ,it looked like it had been used, it had a little scrap on the side ,so they let us have it half price !!

I think we are all stocked up now ,got more food stuff now than we had at
christmas !!
The side roads to the farm were a bit dicey !! we decided to come home another way and those roads were better still slushy but not the packed down ice .

Got a nice big Chicken for tonight roast potatoes and veg will go down a treat .

We have just fine snow falling at the moment and it's just brightened up a bit too.

I knew a woo woo was a cocktail, my daughter-i-l likes them but didn't know what was in it. I had an orgasmic (made sure I spelt that right, don't want folk getting the wrong idea ;-)) can't remember what was in it and it was a ridiculous price.

Daughter said her partner has gone into work at heathrow they have closed another runway, think she said only one was open now, you'd think they could be more prepared, he'll probably have to stay overnight, it's going to be a long weekend for her. Harry loved the snow.

Seems crazy we are all shivering in the cold and Kim is roasting in the heat. Hope the party goes well Kim.

Hi everyone. It's been snowing here all morning and is building up now. I can see the traffic on the main road and it's going a bit slow for a change. Also noticed that most of the local children have been sent home from school. I've emailed out a photo of a blackbird on our birdy table out back, one of many visitors. Not sure if I have everyones email address.
Luckily, I had to take Carmel to the doctors yesterday morning and while we were out we got our shopping in so that we didn't have to worry if it got really bad. Lucky thing we did, I wouldn't want to go out in it today!
Only one of the family have phoned to see if we are OK and to ask if we need anything fetching, bless them. I guess the others are too busy with their own problems.

Will look in later on to see how you are all faring. C Y A L

Maureen Report 18 Jan 2013 14:55

Thanks for the photos William, so the blackbird was the only diner, must be bad for him to be up on the table, they are usually ground feeders. Haven't seen any birds on my bird feeder, don't think the word has got round yet.

Silent Witness is a really good one, boy did I jump right at the beginning when that girl got into her car, I knew something was going to happen still made me jump out of my skin.

Looks like a blizzard outside, I'm glad I don't have to go out, it's scuppered my plans this weekend though, was having the family over for a roast dinner, shouldn't think they'll want to come out in this weather.

Frank Report 18 Jan 2013 15:37

I'M HERE> !!!!

Lots of snow in Nothampton. Kettering was almost without any. How strange,it's only 20 mmiles away. Lot more snow up here now. It hasn't stopped since we arrives at 12.45 pm.

Won't be going far, even though Jan asked if I fancied a walk to Rutland Water There is a two mile walk that goes round one end by the boat yard, and back into the villiage. See what it's like tomorrow.

We have bought extra underwear etc, a weeks tablet supply. so we are covered if it gets realy bad.

Nice photo Will, I put loads of seed down and meal worms before I left. So at least the birds will have full tums for today.

Both Conrad and Jan are working. Ros is watching T.V. and I am in the conservatory, watching the snow and chatting to you lot.!!!!

Maureen, You have what you like my love. !!!

I had one of my bad headaches on the way up today. It seemed to go right down behind my eyes. My neck and shoulders were aching also. I took some tablets when I got here and it's eased off a bit now.

Not a good journey up, the lorries coming the other way, were splashing all the muck and salt on the screen, the washers were working overtime to keep the screen cleared. I must remember to top them up before we go home. The wiper blades were covered in salt, and Conrad has poured a kettle of water over them to wash it off.

The snow has eased a bit now. but the wind is still blowing quite hard, and the sky looks full of snow.

Take care if you have to go out.

See you later.

Maureen

Maureen Report 18 Jan 2013 16:35

Glad to hear you got there safe Frank, hope that headache goes so you can enjoy spending time with the family. Be careful if you are going for walks, don't want you falling over and doing damage.

It has stopped snowing here but doesn't look like it will be melting anytime soon. Have had quite an entertaining hour or so watching the cars trying to go up and down this road, it slopes quite steeply, and children out throwing snowballs, makes a change to see some good oldfashioned fun.

Well, what a day!! woke up to snow falling steadily and it hasn't stopped all day! No dentist this am, as we couldn't get out!! Our dentist comes in daily from Bristol , he wasn't able to get to Tetbury anyway! we were only going for an inspection, so will make another appointment when the weather improves!
Spent the day clearing snow and feeding birds and reading! Thanks for that link Maureen, it could be useful if this weather goes on!!!!
Made Fish Pie for supper, potato cakes and peas, nice and easy, Silent Witness is a bit lary! in competition with Ripper Street!!!
L rang and told us that our small grandson went to bed with his woollen hat on last night so that he would be ready for the snow this morning!!!!! He never fails to make us chuckle!
