Hi Colin, I love to watch Yo*tube clips of Wilson Keppel and Betty, they are 'one offs' aren't they. I used to try and copy them as a child with scoops of sand from dad's sand pile! I never knew they did their dances outside the cinemas though.

We had people who would transfer to work in London Maureen as they got higher pay to take into account the higher living costs. I think it is usual for that to be the case. Often they would deliberately choose to commute from outside as they could be 'quids in' doing that, certainly up to a couple of years ago. I suspect most people there rent these days as property is out of reach for most of us, including those of us outside London who have houses to sell!

Well, so much for OH doing his notes........he's been snoozing instead!

Sheila, i don't know where you got the idea from about me thinking you were lying about getting a month on here ,if you read my post you will see i wrote... I didn't know you could pay for a month on here i thought it was for six months at a time and that's all i said !!
I didn't think that you were lying about it, so please don't think that :-)

Oh Dear Sheila
I think you must have got the wrong end of the stick. If I remember correctly.Kim had asked if we had heard from you.I replied to her that I had had a card from you ,but there was no message as such..You had already explained to us why you were leaving. As Kim had not been on the thread for a while I did ask her if she hadn't realised you had gone.
I am sorry that Jessica had had troubles and hope that she is now feeling better after seeing you and now that the terrible Hurricane is in the past.I can't imagine what that must have been like
:-S

Now Chris has just arrived and James and Jess are packing up the car so it's all go so I had better skedaddle :-D

David my dad loved Round the Horn.

Jane Report 7 Jan 2013 19:55

Hello Colin.
It is nice to hear your Childhood memories. We need more please :-D.We seem to have run out of steam on all ours lol.
Frank I was enjoying your post ,,,no need for you to shove off lolol

I don't think buying somewhere would be feasible for Hannah and John Frank.I dread to think what the cost of a 2 bed flat would be .Probably £250,000 +.Maureen would have a better idea on London prices.Actually I think it would be a lot more than that :-S

James and Jess have finally gone.So I can get on with our dinner now :-D :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Jan 2013 20:54

Frank Report 7 Jan 2013 21:03

Jane I know how the property prices must be in London area. I was only thinking if they moved out a bit, they could buy. But that's me. I have never rented in my life, and have always encouraged the children to do the same.

Hi Colin, Where to you live, ??? It would be nice to have another chap on here with, William,David and myself. We old un's get a bit stale with all our memories. But I still have loads to tell, when they come to mind !!!

Sunday lunchtime from 12.noon. Two way Family favourite, billy Cotton's Band Show, Round the Horn. and a bit later the Detective chap, can't think of his name at the moment.

Jane

Jane Report 7 Jan 2013 21:42

Frank they can't move too far out because of where they both work.I think it is just the norm 'those prices' There is no other option. :-S I've been trying to remember what I paid in Plymouth when I was in flats in the late 70's.I have a feeling it was something like £20 per week ,but can't really remember.

Just watching one of my fav programmes....Mrs Browns Boys :-D

I was quite glad to reach the end of that necklace but I love how different it is. It will be interesting to see if the others managed to get finished when we go back on Friday.

I meant to say Mandy, how good was that losing a few pounds over Christmas without having to try with your new tablets!! :-D I know I have put a few pounds on by how my clothes fit, so need to lose them and more I hope. :-S

Jane, it is funny how everything seems to beep these days.......cooker, microwave, dishwasher, mobile phone and washing machines too......mine does!! Hope you and Fitz enjoy the film tomorrow......his mum doesn't sound good does she.

It's a good job I have been going through my paperwork..........I get free mobile phone insurance through my bank and I hadn't let them know I'd changed my phone.......a year ago!! lol

Night, night to you all, sleep tight....x

How many were regular listeners to The Archers and Mrs Dale's Diary?

The woman who read Mrs Dale used to be a beauriful who could sing and dance.

Morning all and evening Kim,

Dull and murky here today. What has happened to our weather?

Must get on with some washing myself as I never seem to get to the bottom of the basket lately. Then there is the dreaded ironing which is piling up again :-| I think I spend too much time on the pc and not doing the things I should be doing but when the weather is so nasty I don't feel like doing anything.

Hope you enjoy your film this afternoon Jane.

I really must clean the chickens out too. So off I go to do some jobs, hedgehog first I think.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jan 2013 11:47

Washing in the machine and a load in the dryer, cleaned the hedgehog out and a big pot of soup on the go. Getting on well even though it is a horrid day. Oh has just come in so work will stop while he is here as it always does..................

Frank

Frank Report 8 Jan 2013 11:57

Morning all/evening Kim,

As you say Mel, dreary old morning, nothing to want you to get up and go.

All showered and shaved (nice clean boy)

Last night we had stewing beef cooked for three hours in the oven. Melted in the mouth, with mash, cabbage and carrots. How lucky I was that there was some mash, and cabbage over. BUBBLE AND SQUEAK, three rashers and two eggs for breakfast. two slices of B & B and two mugs of tea. Nothing for me till dinner tonight. Boiled Onion Roll.

Ros is at the Doctors, over these pains in her side, She's been gone three quarters of an hour, so he must be busy.

Jane it must be so hard for youngsters today to buy their own homes. My first in 1960 was £1,685 with part central heating and a massive garden overlooking fields, where I would pick mushrooms in the autumn. My Mortgage was £17. 1. 8 per quarter and £17.3.4 a quarter for interest. So £34.5.0d in total
But it was a struggle even then. with travel to London every day. Season tickets were close to £10.00 per month.

I think Ros wants to go to the Cinema this weekend to see Les Mis. Martine will go with her. Cimema's are to LOUD for me. I have to wear ear plugs. !!

Missed the Metal detector I wanted, will have to look at others. But what a price they are. Some are over £400.00. NO WAY.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jan 2013 12:47

The expensive ones are good ones though that pick up good finds. The cheaper ones pick up all sorts of can tops and even silver foil. The dearer ones can be set ( I think) to only detect gold and silver, bronze etc.

All are quite heavy on the arm Frank so be carefull. I once had one from a friend when I lived in suffolk and went round the garden with it but only found old zinc buried in the garden and an old boot sole. Nothing of real interest. Never went out with it though and there were saxon sites just over the road in the farmers field. Working seven days a week did'nt help either.

Frank

Frank Report 8 Jan 2013 13:43

I've just had a shock. I told you a bulb had blown on the car. We went to Halfor#s to get a new one, Ros asked it someone could fit it, as I can't pinch the two plastic clips together, to get the cluster out. They wanted to charge £3.99 to do it. Ros told her to basically STUFF IT.!!! It took her ten minutes to alter the entry on the till, so some consellation.. Will get a neighbour to do it later, at least we have the bulb. Have book the car in for Filter and oil change, and a general check over for Sat. a.m. Ros, will drop off and Martine will pick her up, go shopping and drop her off to pick it up.

Still not nice out there. and I am suffering with indigeston. (I wonder why)???

Yes Mel, thats the trouble, you only get what you pay for, but I would not be a serious detector, so don't want a dear one.But as the saying goes "BUY CHEAP, BUY TWICE"

Hope you enjoy your film this afternoon Jane, No crunching sweets I hope.!!

Jane

Jane Report 8 Jan 2013 14:10

What are you hoping to find Frank??? a ton of buried treasure :-D
I hope Ros got on alright at the Doctors this morning.

David Mrs Dales Diary was one of Mums favourite radio progs.I can't remember them all.Housewife's Choice and yes The Archers.

Have just steam cleaned the main Bathroom carpet.I though it was a good opportunity as James is not here and Chris and I don't use that one.

Right Fitz has arrived so BBL
