Afternoon All,

Yes I used to save the green shield stamps. I got my Mrs Beeton's Cook Book with them when I got married (still have it). Did anyone else save the S&H PINK stamps as well??

It is chilly here, but I was up after the frost had melted!! :-S I was sleeping a lot better as well, but think I was overtired last night........clockwatching till 4.30am!! :-S

I have rescued one of those roll ons out of the bin to try Mel (after it's been washed!) I don't imagine I would use many as I only have green, red, purple and gold on my tree. I have some big silver and pearl beads that are a bit scruffy but smaller, so I might try doing those for my twig tree as the net will hide most of the bead!

Mandy, I am sending you a PM.

Just popped in while I have my lunch, then back to the cards. I probably need to do about 26 cards, but if I run out of time it will be just for the chosen few!!! It is a bit frustrating Jane, especially if things go wrong when you're half way into a card, usually with acrylic paint you can correct it but not always but I've been in a positive frame of mind lately and have been heard using one of my dads favourite expressions ............san fairy ann ............. never understood where it came from so looked it up and it goes back to WW1 when the british soldier not understanding French translated ca na fait rien "it does not matter" which became san fairy ann.

How enterprising of the scouts, I bought a load of stamps yesterday at the PO more than £13 :-0

Meant to say, very quickly before I turn the computer off, loved the angel joke Shirl. and I never knew that about Tom Hanks dad, doesn't he look like him, the same smile.

Afternoon everyone,

Frosty first thing ,but like your way Frank we had a little rain which melted the frost, we just walked up town and its really bitter out there now ,by the time we got home my ears were tingling :-S got a few more christmas presents and some things for Katie's third birthday which is on friday

Ann, looking forward to seeing the bauble ,fancy using the ball from a deodorant ,what a clever use for them ,there must be lots of things that we just throw away that could be recycled ,i remember using the top from a fabric softener bottle for a dice shaker once.

Now where's our Widow Twanky today still trudging along with her washing :-D
I think if it was me i would buy a cheap washer to just get by for a while ,how on earth will you manage if this has to go on till your all dried out Jane.

Oh i see Ann has mentioned the Pink stamps ,i was going to say ask about them , i seem to remember seeing the pink ones, were they from the same company as the green ones ?

Time for a cuppa i think . BBL

Jane

Jane Report 1 Dec 2012 17:24

Hello All
'tis Widow Twanky :-D.I won't be carrying any more loads like yesterday. My shoulders are killing today :-S.I don't really want to buy a cheap washer Mandy and then another .I'm sure I will just about manage with the help from Fitz and my other neighbour Norma.I think I will hand wash 'smalls' and then they can go on the Clothes Horse.I did suggest to James and Chris that they could wear their underpants longer by turning them inside out ;-) ;-).They thought I meant it lol.

I have written some cards this afternoon sitting by the fire, but got a bit hot so have had to move back.Chris has spent the afternoon putting together the new units and is now putting up a rack to hang my pans on.I keep hearing his voice calling "Are you there" :-S :-S.Can't get a minutes peace lol

We had Green Shield stamps and pink ones too.But I have a feeling the pink ones might have been Co-op ones

I thought it was going to snow this morning.I think I might have seen a few tiny specks.I wanted to use my double up vouchers today but couldn't find anything I wanted or liked :-S.I think there are only a few days left to double up.

I googled Spirella last night and a right old chuckle at some of the adverts :-D :-D

Dinner tonight is Sausages, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, red onion Halloumi Cheese, and potatoes all cooked together. But I can't get to the fridge to get things out yet as Chris is in the way.I don't want to disturb him as i may end up with a wonky rack ;-)

oops ,I seem to have a big gap there

Maureen the Scout Christmas post has been going for years here.Buckets are placed in various shops, garages ,etc They have lids with slots so you just post your cards and money in.Then all the cards are taken to big room (like a Church Hall) and then loads of tables are set out with all the different street names and an army of volunteers do the sorting.More volunteers do the delivering. We did it a couple of years when James was in the cubs and it was quite exhausting work I can tell you.

Annx Report 1 Dec 2012 18:33

Oh Jane, I would love to have seen their faces when you said about wearing their pants inside out!!!! LOL. If you think you had 'no peace' today, wait till he's retired. I get, 'Have you got a minute?'......Can you come and look at.....?' Why is it ME in HIS way in the kitchen since he retired?

We found out yesterday that the traffic holdup had been because a pig was loose on the M1. Last night it was because a lorry had overturned on the M1.

Maureen my dad used to say that as well........I never knew what it meant.

Jane

Jane Report 1 Dec 2012 21:14

Gawd! Where did the pig come from Ann??? I hope it was caught safely.A friend called tonight to say she saw someone dump a dog out of their car today at the side of the road :-S :-S :-S :-S.Several people saw and stopped.Luckily one lady was willing to take it in.It was just a youngster maybe not a year old. Some people are just so callous and unbelievable.I just makes my blood boil.

My pooter has been so slow and strange tonight I am giving up on it and turning off.So will say Night Night now x

Evening all,

I had a nice piece of haddock and chips tonight, Ros had her Chinese.

My it's B cold out there tonight. but to warm for me indoors,. Here I sit stripped to the waist, with a pint of COKE beside me.

Jane, Where do you get the wine you mention. Asd# or Ald# ???

Conrad and Jan called in this afternoon, they were going to Harvey's for the evening I think it will be an Indian.

West Ham beat Chelsea 3-1 this afternoon. I rang Lewis (Chelsea supporter) he said "I knew you would ring to upset me) as if I would. !!!

If I ate your dinner tonight Jane, I would be up all night with indigeston, and a bottle of Gavist##. lol lol

As a child we were only allowed TWO pairs of pants a week. Clean ones Sunday and Wednesday. They werre the ones with LEGS in that came just above your short trousers. Will, will remember those I am sure My sisters had bloomers with the elastic round the knees. PASHION KILLERS. When I see what Ros wears today. My Mother would have a fit :-D :-D :-D

Talking of corsetts. My Mum had those that laced up at the back, I can still remember the girls laceing her up. I don't know how she could move in them !!!

Off to watch Jungle.

Good night All.

Jane

Jane Report 1 Dec 2012 22:16

Fancy dumping a dog like that and on a cold night like this and where it could be run over! It beggars belief when there are so many shelters they could leave it at. It would worry me sick thinking how cold, stressed and distressed it would be. Some people just don't seem to have any feelings at all.....how could you sleep after doing that. Thank goodness they were seen and that some kind person took it in.

I think the pig must have been injured Jane as the papers said a vet put it down, poor thing.

Frank, I remember my gran had those bloomers in pink. I used to see them drying on the clothes horse and hoped I wouldn't ever have to wear them!! :-D I remember her complaining about the 'stays' prodding from her corsets too. I seem to remember them being metal strips. They might have been the modern version of whalebone. I think we only wore 2 pairs a week of pants, vests and socks as children as well, plus the weekly bath and hairwash on a sunday night. That all changed for me as a teenager thank goodness, despite moans from mum that I would catch my death from all the hairwashing and from dad insisting 4 inches deep was enough for anyone to bath in!!

Off to bed now, these cold days and dark nights make me feel tired. OH was saying we should be like the animals and build a cosy warm cocoon to snuggle up in and hibernate for the winter.

There used to be an abbatoir at the bottom of Stephney Bank behind the Tanners Arms.
A beast once escaped, ran up the hill among traffic.
I think the Police shot it.

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Dark dingy and miserable this morning, o and wet................

Shirl I really enjoyed the link you sent and yes I do remember that song even though I was only 8 at the time. What I did'nt know was that the lead singer was Tom Hanks father and what a nice looking chap he is too.

Back into the wreaths today. More wiring of holly and ivy and get on with a couple more.

Well I have weather like you Liz.Sun Sun Sun but boy was there a heavy frost. How nice to sit on your veranda :-D.And poor you Mel with a miserable morning.I have had to pull some curtains as the sun is blinding.

I have been washing pants and socks in the sink :-S :-S.I'm now just going to have a look on the pooter ans see if there is a Laundry service where they pick up your washing ,do it and then deliver it back.

You won't believe this but I have had to turn of the radiator in my en suite as it is leaking from the thermostat thing :-S :-S.So it will e another call to good old Brit Ga*
We knew it was leaking just a little but I'm not prepared to leave anything now that leaks !!!!!
I think it is going to be Beef Casserole tonight, but I need to go and buy some Beef so BBL

Frank Report 2 Dec 2012 11:34

Morning from a very bright and sunny Northampton. Very heavy frost last night, and a bit nippy round the ears out there this morning.

I have just been to the freezer to check if I have a large gammon and leg of pork for Christmas. YES I HAVE. So I won't have that EXPENSE later this month.

Jane will take a lookj at Asd#/Ald# to see if there are any wines I like. Normally if it's wet and alcoholic that suits me fine HIC HIC.

Small joint of beef for later, with all the usual.

Ros has started to move things around in the lounge, so next it will be "Can you get the tree in" then all the box's with the decorations in. There are 6/8 big plastic boxes stacked up in the garage corner. Hal.f of the stuff never gets used, but she says "I MIGHT USE IT NEXT YEAR" but for over 30 years hasn't done so yet !!!!

I didn't want either girls to loose last night. They came over so well.. Ros won't know what to do now that the Jungle is over. SHE LOVED IT.

Jane, Your friend should have got the car number, and reported him to the police/RSPCA. I know what I would have done with him/her if I had seen it.

We have mentioned before I think about the Libery Bodices with the little rubber buttons, that melted and got sticky when in hot water. My sisters always wore trhem in the winter.

Parents don't wrap the children up like we use too. I suppose the winters are not as fierce, and certainly not as cold. We use to skate on the ponds, and even the River one year in 1948 We still had snow on the roofs in APRIL.

I'm wandering again, so will leave you in peace.

As**a do a three bottles for £10 Frank, I've bought them before and they are really nice.

Makes you want to cry to think if no one had seen that poor little dog dumped how he would be suffering now.

Waiting for my daughter to come we are going into Harrow on the pretext of Christmas shopping but I bet we end up with a few things for ourselves ;-)

Christmas tree us up and decorated, looking very Chrismassy here, especially outside where there is still a thick frost on the ground.
