In Flanders field the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below,

We are the Dead Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch;be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae

Ann,I know Ellen has bunions due to wearing pointed toed high heels all those years ago.

Strange behaviour from ex but sad.
Down the years ive often thought perhaps children might have made our marriage happier but it couldn't be.

My Brother William Dennis is marching this morning.
He is with a former unit the Oman Trucial Scouts.

What a beautiful day for Remembrance Day :-D.I have watched some of the service on tv but in between have been cleaning windows and also giving my tumble drier a jolly good clean .I think now I have cleared every bit of fluff and objects trapped in various parts...and touch wood it seems to be running alright again (for now).I keep going to have a sniff and see if there is any burning smell. But at the moment all I can smell in the air is someones very smokey chimney :-S

Chris is sanding down some of the Welsh Dresser which was covered in different marks and stains.

Must get on so as William would say C Y A L :-D

Jane Report 11 Nov 2012 14:21

David was your Brother marching in London today or locally where he lives? Is he the one in Banbury?

I hope Ann is having a great day out at the NEC :-D

It is a day here for jumping down eachother's throats :-S,just bitching really lol.I think it is the result of all that has been going on here over the last several months.Chris is like something possessed trying to get things back to normal. But it won't be until the final tiling is done and the last of the papering. Also now the worry about getting those 2 more leaky pipes/joints.
We will have a skip later this week so an awful lot of stuff will be going :-D :-D
I will still have to keep the fridge in the lounge until the remaining papering is done.I'm getting quite used to seeing it sat next to the tv lol

We just sat outside for a little while in the sunshine.A little bit chilly in my short sleeves .I had to take my jumper off earlier as I was sweating buckets.

Jess is going back to Uni tonight so we will eat about 6 as her train is 8.30 from Kettering.James is off work until Wednesday. He is supposed to have a week off after a General Anaesthetic .His face is still a bit swollen but he's much more himself now.I think the stitches in his gum will dissolve and he has no more appointments.

Who is going to be watching Get me out of Here(Jungle ) tonight?.I love watching them all go into the Jungle but don't always follow the whole series.I'm not even sure I know all the people in it this time.

I had better check on the tumble drier again. It will be a relief if we don't have to bother about getting a new one :-D

I didn't go along to the memorial parade here in Bewdworth this morning as I thought I'd better stay in and look after Carmel. I do love to see the soldiers marching in from Gamecock Barracks, especially the Ghurkas. We did watch just the service & 2 minutes silence on TV this morning though.
We watched all the rememberance programme from the Albert Hall last night. We had a dear friend, Alan Lewis, God rest him. He had been a soldier and belonged to the local ex-servicemans club, staunch supporter of the British Legion too. Every November he would be part of the contingent that went to the Albert Hall and he would be a flag bearer. So as well as remembering all those that that gave their lives for our freedom, we especially remember Alan.
Towards the end, when the two small children brought their poppies to be blessed, I had tears in my eyes when the little girl so clearly said her part. So touching when she has no real meaning of what it was all about. I was thinking about my childhood in the war and that, while I was out playing, going in the air raid shelter, dodging fighter plane bullets on the way to school, our troops were fighting all over the world for our/my future freedom.

Still sorting out the menu here for Carmel, her tongue is taking it's time healing, but to be expected. We had some delicious chicken and taragon soup with white wine courtesy of Messrs Campbell for our lunch. She really enjoyed that. The jelly & ice cream are on the menu for our meal later, with ???? - whatever else!

Jane, Carmel was a clippie on the trolley buses in St Helens, Lancs, when she first came to England from Ireland. There were a lot of cotton mills there then and she said when the workers knocked off to get the bus home, they were all covered in white so it looked like it had been snowing! What price health and safety then?

Mandy its drips rather than leaks. But the chap said on Friday as he couldn't tighten 'something' any more, he things it will need a new 'whatever' and a draining of the system AGAIN :-S :-S :-S :-S :-S.Maybe 3 hours work :-S.I just wonder whether things have been knocked and jolted with all the work that has gone on.....But whether it will be covered or not insurance wise I don't know..Just totally sick of it all now.
Chris is trying to get his study straight and has been sneaking things back in the lounge :-S I noticed he had put a lot of photo frames on top of one of the units....without checking to see if the top was clean.(only about a foot of dust up there).Naughty Naughty :-| :-| .So I have been perched on a chair doing the dusting.

Well we now have a fire blazing away.It soon gets cold once the sun goes down.Chester has prime position in front of it .Sensible dog :-D

William fancy Carmel having being a Clippie too. :-D.Does she like Pasta? That would be quite soft for her to eat.It would slide down easily.

Must check that tumble drier again.........I'm getting paranoid now lol

Shirl. That is so lovely on the day we all try to remember. We sat and watched the Albert Hall last night, and the CENOTAPH this morning. Do you get these in Canada ????

Not done anything today. I had a bad night with cramp again, tried to sleep in but couldn't settle. Got up showered and shaved. Made my tea. Ros came out about 10 am sat and had her breakfast. Then we sat and watched the T.V. and the service. What a moveing service, and seeing all those brave men covered in medals. We just do not know what some of them went through. I know I had tears when they showed the list of those who have perished this year. When oh When are they going to get out of there !!!

Mel, How long are the "NEW" chicks likely to lay eggs. To thing I paid £12.50 each for mine as 15 week olds.

Glad you all liked the puppet joke. My old school friend sends them to me. and a lot of them come from a friend in Australia.

Jane, lets hope that after all this upheavil, the pipes will settle down again. They don't like to be disturbed :-D :-D :-D Just like our old bodies.

Will Did you enjoy your Service today, did you wear your National Service Medal ???

Just missed a Hostess Trolly on Ebay. Ros wanted to get one for Julia, as she men tioned she liked ours last week. But I hyave put a load more on my watch list. So I am sure we will get one at a reasonable price, and not too far away to go and collect.

We had a nice loin of pork for dinner, with Roast pots, parsnips. veg was cabbage and leeks, carrots, cauli, broch brussels . Yorkshire pudding and Apple sauce.. Ros couldn't eat all hers, so has left some for later (SHE LIKES COLD FOOD) Not for me. !!!!

Frank I have a Hostess Trolley going in the skip !!!!!.It has to be more than 25 years old.It was my sisters In laws, then Janice had it and then passed it on to us.It still works fine but doesn't look in the best of condition lol.I did see on ebay that people sell the glass dishes from Hostess Trolleys .Maybe I should save the 3 and try selling them.

I have fed James and Jess.....Now it is time for US two.I just need to do the rest of the Saute Potatoes .Trouble is we can't sit up to the table yet as it is still covered in allsorts :-S :-S.I better get cracking :-D

Went off at 2.15 to get the chickens. A friend wanted a dozen also so we collected 18 and got one free which I kept. So I had seven new ones. We put them in the chickens house and shut them in meanwhile I had given the old girls some corn to keep them out of the way while we settled the others. Come bedtime the old ones were all waiting at the closed pop hole and oh said let him know if I needed a hand. I did'nt I just opened it up and slowly they all went in. Oh is going to let them out in the morning quite early. I bet I have to clip a few wings tomorrow. I wonder how many will manage to get out of the run??

Annx Report 11 Nov 2012 20:50

Evening All,

Had to smile at Chris sneaking things into the lounge!! I bet you are both keen to get things back in place now. I have one of those Hostess Trolleys in the garage!! OH keeps threatening to take it to the tip, but I keep saying I MIGHT need it!! lol. Mine must be about the same age as yours Jane. It is a mahogany colour with beading on the doors to give it an 'antique' look. I certainly won't be letting the glass dishes go down the tip now!!

It worked out well at the NEC today. OH dropped me off in the end, went to a footie match at Sutton Coldfield up the road and collected me 3 and a half hours later!! That saved £21 on his entry and parking the car and the footie match was only £5. It was very good with lots of stalls for all kinds of crafts and little workshops set up with people sitting learning how to do all kinds of things. I liked one where they were embroidering cards. I liked the art demonstrations too. I could have spent a whole day there I think! It wasn't packed either, but there were queues for the ladies toilets.......when will they get the right amount of toilets for ladies at these places!!! :-| There were a few chinese with bead stalls.....they do some very nice glass beads.` There was also a section for Xmas presents and a cake exhibition next door (didn't go to that as there was another charge and not really enough time). On the way back we called and had a pub lunch. It was really noticable coming home in the dark how many road lights are switched off now to save cost.

Just been looking at the 'light up' reflective collars and 'flashing led bulb' leads for dogs! You can even change the 'flashing' speed! lol

That was lovely Shirl. There is a National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire not too far from here and I really must go and see it. One of my 'breakfast' friends I meet up with went in the summer and said how lovely it is there. I should find a few of my rellies in the lists which will be sad.

They have done Pantomime themed rooms at Chatsworth House for Christmas this year so we are going to see if we can take a trip there on Thursday. OH will be saying 'It's behind you!!!!'

I must say I don't know many of the latest celebs........

Frank, if you back track to my post you'll see I didn't make the local parade due to looking after Carmel in her hour of need. A pity as I'd been looking forward to it. I would have worn my RAF badge, my veterans badge and my N S medal (& thought of you too). I've also got an RAF cap badge which last year I stuck in my trilby. Never mind, they'll be next year - I hope!
Night night all.
