I've tried the red pepper and the deep heat I have now cut some Mahonia, very prickly and laid that out there, if that doesn't deter the cat has anyone got any other suggestions :-0

With all the cooking you do Frank I think you should treat yourself to a new cooker

Hello my little chickadees.
I have stayed off the computer all day to give my poorly eye a rest.
Kim thank goodness Miranda didn't get drawn into that cult. These people have a lot to answer for.How dare they turn up at Jacob's funeral like that :-S :-S :-S

It has been a miserable day so I too have been watching some of the Olympics.Loved the Ladies Synchronised diving.Especially in slow motion.I don't watch the Equestrian events as I'm always worried the horses will have a fall .They are such beautiful animals though.

On our lawn is the head (remains) of a bunny. The rest of it is wedged in the little picket fence :-S.I think something had tried to pull it through and just pulled the head off !Chris can get rid of that :-D

I must go and empty the bins and get it all out in the big black bin as it is bin day tomorrow.I'll be back .

What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?
What are you thinking .. . When you're looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. With faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . And makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . Who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. With wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . A lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . To see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.
I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. And nature is cruel.
It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . Look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. . Grace and vigour, depart.
There is now a stone . . . Where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . My battered heart swells
I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . Life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . .. Gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . That nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . Open and see.
Not a cranky old man .
Look closer . . . . See .. .. . .. .... . ME!!

We used to have this poem up on the notice board at the office where I used to work (In Care) and all the new staff had to read it, and take note of it ref: how they treated old people! For a cranky old man, read woman, but the verse was the same - certainly concentrated the mind!!

Evening All,

Oh Kim these cult people seem to prey on young people and some can be quite vulnerable and unworldly at that age. Thank goodness Miranda had the good sense not to get drawn in and how awful they were touting their pamphlets at the funeral!! Yes it does sound as if the Police need to investigate. It's good you have a local lad in the games! Oh heck, the snake obviously didn't go far then! Do you have people that come and remove dangerous ones?

Maureen, I used to use holly sprigs so the prickly Mahonia should be just as good. I have heard moth balls are good too but you don't see many of those around these days!

I had to drop OH off about half a mile from the hospital in the city this morning. There are roadworks everywhere around it and there are always big queues at the carpark anyway. Luckily NO RAIN! I went to look around some shops a few miles away and found 2 good Beading books in a charity shop. Mint condition, original cost £34 the 2 and I got them for £5.50. Then I waited for OH at Mor*isons near the hospital. When he turned up he said they had only tested his arms, yet it is his legs which are worst!! At least the tests results were normal which is good. We decided to eat before going to do some food shopping at As*a and, typical I managed to spill tomato all down my top!! :-S No way was that going to come off, so when we got in the car I decided to turn my top back to front and put my jacket on!!! lol. OH held my coat up as a screen. :-D

We have had either Kites or Buzzards in the back field again. They have 'lookouts' at the top of the tallest Hawthorn trees, but as soon as I get my camera they are gone!

Oh Jane......horrid bunny carnage. Yuk.

David I have read that poem before and it is very good. Liz I think it should be prominent in all care homes as a reminder.

Ann,You cheeky little wipper snapper. Wait till I get my hand on you. I'll give you what for. (My Mums words ringing in my ears) If you think I am old, what about William and Shirl ????

David I have sat and read your poem three times. I will have to get it cut and Pasted, and pass on to a few of my friends. THANKS.

Trust you to find the bargains Ann. I often look around a charity shop IF AND WHEN I get DRAGED into town with Ros. while she is doing something else.

Have you got Fox's Jane, or was it a Buzzard or Kite that got the bunny, not the best was to end ones life, but it saved Chris shooting him/her. lol lol

Ros is watching her "HOLBY" so I am working my way round eBay, and other sites, to see what's available. I might find a bargain.!!!!

LOL Ann you were brave with that comment :-DI see Frank is after you :-|

Just a quickie really from me .
Fiona rang tonight. She has not been well due to dreadful side effects of her painkiller tablets. It seems that she is quite unique in her reaction to them. But because she is the weight of a young girl just over 7 stone it was all to much for her system. She has some new meds now which will hopefully get her back on track....She has given me the ok to tell you all this.
Hopefully now she will get better and soon be back with us.

Off to bed now so Night Night xx

Yikes, I'd better find a good hiding place now......no, not a place for a good hiding (that would be my dad's words ringing in my ears......you'll get a good hiding!!!) Frank, it would be all your WISDOM that made me think you were a little older than me. ;-) ;-) ;-)

I actually went in the shop accidentally. There is a charity book shop, then a few doors up the ordinary charity shop for the same charity. You know how it is, once you have a foot inside the door you can hardly spin round and go out again when the staff have spotted you!! lol. OH likes the shop and has bought one or two books there. It is in a better off area near the university so there are a lot of student study books and a lot of the classics too.

Thanks for passing on news about Fiona, Jane. Poor thing must be quite fed up with not feeling well. I hope the new meds are better for her and that she is soon back to show us her kitchen extension. :-D

Off to bed now, be nice not to have to be up so early tomorrow......back in the garden, but I suppose rain will stop play.

Ann, I think provided the weather is O.K. The festival should go off well, as it has in the passed. Plenty of Narrow Boats, selling all maner of things, stall around the village. Pub doing grub, and the Chapel. Allways a lot going on. Let me know if you are thinking of coming down !!!!!

Our Tesc# Olive Trees are doing well Jane, Ros trimmed them the other day as they were spreading.

Thanks Jane for letting us know about Fiona, the poor thing ,lets hope with the new meds she will soon be feeling better and back with us again .
Good job you didn't cut your Olive tree down if its starting to shoot , it must have been that blast of hot weather that got it going again.

MillymollyAmanda Report 1 Aug 2012 18:08

Have PM'd you back Jane,so you'll see how it works !!

No, the meat was the normal price ,they do lots of different packs and its delivered to your door ,well this lot was delivered to sons ,but i could have had it delivered here but he ordered it with his .
I have a medium sized chest freezer and a smaller chest one that i usually turn on and fill up for christmas ,so i could always turn that on if i wanted more space .
I'am not sure if its just a local company or if they deliver further afield ,son found out about them from other people who had ordered and said how good the meat was .
