Hope I'm not too late to wish Ann,
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY (What's left of it')

Have only just got chance to pop in as we are having a decorator friend in this week and we are slightly in chaos! Having related part of the 'Dormer Leak Saga', keeping you waiting for the 'Kitchen Carpet Saga' - this will soon all be taken over by the 'Wallpaper Saga'. What happened to the days when things were straight forward?

As the weekend approaches, I look forward to lugging everything around and getting our home back to what it was. We can't find anything now, so I guess when we move it all back, we still won't be able to find what we want *£$% (Oh, did I also mention my back aches?) I wonder if the smell of paint, emulsion and wall paper paste will soon be gone from our house? I'll have to have a good old bacon fry-up to change the flavour in the air.

Then of course when I do get on I have to check my emails, go through all Frank's emails, then find time to stop laughing to get on with everything else.

Well, we lost dear old Eric Sykes, happy memories there, thank you Eic, may you RIP. Now, the Oscar winning star of Marnie and many other films has gone off to the great studio in the sky. I guess I'm lucky I'm still here, but then again I never was a star :-\

By the way, Jane, Carmel has cortezone injections in her knees every so often but she doesn't find it painful. I just aches a bit for a day or so but then her knee is much better for a long time. Perhaps it depends where you have it done - or who gives it to you. Our doctor doesn't do both knees the same day, he give a fortnight between so that she doesn't run the risk of any problems.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all so much for your lovely cards and good wishes. It was so nice opening them in bed this morning with a cuppa from OH. Maureen, another great card, OH loved it too, thinks you are very talented. Loved the e card Frank........all the cards were lovely! :-D Mel, you made me laugh........I might be testing them next week........Spiderman is on!! lol ;-)

I must say it has been a glorious mostly sunny day here. I even had my knee length shorts on to go out. No BARE CHEST like Frank though!! lol. We started with poached eggs on toast at the garden centre, then on to the bead shop. OH left me there for an hour ......got 2 nice kits with instructions so I can learn some new things and got some 'different' beads. The assistant was careful not to shout out the total cost, but BEADY EYED OH had already spotted it (and he tells me his eyes are bad!!!!!). I think even he was surprised I hadn't spent all that much. :-0 Then we walked to the Cathedral......don't think I've ever seen so many statues in one place. There was some sort of rehearsal going on so we couldn't go inside which is a pity.

Then we walked around the back to Erasmus Darwin's house and museum. What a man!! Born in the 1700s, he was the leading Physician of the times, approached by the king to be his Physician 3 times. Travelled 10,000 miles a year in horse and carriage to see his patients. He trained his horse (called Doctor!) to trot behind the carriage in case he was needed to go where the carriage couldn't. He was a poet who influenced Wordsworth, Shelley and others. He invented all sorts including the steering for front wheels now used on modern cars and wrote of his beliefs that we all came from the sea originally. He had a weather vane on his house that he connected through the roof to his study downstairs so he could see which way the wind was blowing without going outside to see. He predicted the car, trains and aeroplanes and built a horizontal windmill used by Josiah Wedgewood to grind glass. Contrary to belief at the time he said women were intelligent creatures and should be educated and wrote a book about it. I'll shut up about him now, but I think I would have liked him!!! :-D

Then we called at a craft village and garden centre about 2 miles away and had cake and coffee. It just sarted to drizzle on the way back at about 6pm. All in all a very enjoyable day!!

Thank you William, it has been a very good one thanks and I'm just about pooped now and ready for my bed.

Oh dear, it seems to be one saga after another for you at the moment. I hate all the chaos with decorating and having to move stuff about, so good luck with it this weekend and here's hoping it is speedy and runs smoothly for you. Look forward to hearing about the other sagas when you have time. As you say, nothing ever seems to go to plan does it.

I will catch up with the rest of the posts tomorrow........hope your knee feels better in the morning Frank.

Night, night all xx.

Here I am at 1.15 am. In quite a bit of pain, and many thoughts of Family.
I was in bed by 11.00 pm took my tablet and listened to the radio for a bit. Then memories started flooding into my brain (yes I have one) I decided it was best to get up rather than lay there thinking. Ros went in about 1.00am. I will sit for a while till I feel tired.

See you in the morning

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Bit brighter here today but still rain in the air. It was an awful day yesterday and made us both feel so fed up. Hope it dos'nt come your way today.

Jane I reckon all the worry of that blasted leak has worn you out over the last few days and thats why you are sleeping better.

Poor Frank you shoud get up and have a big lettuce sandwich that should help with sleep. Hope the knee is easier for you today and gets a bit better soon. When my brain goes into overdrive at night I just ry to think black and that works too. Or roll your closed eye in an anti clockwork direction as wide as you can.

Well I don't think I shall be going anywhere today but maybe up the tunnel to feed the toms and sow some more lettuce seed. Picked more courgettes the other day and spyed my first runner been, about a quarter of an inch long!!!!! Ha ha that is if it stays on the plant :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0 I may have to take a picture of it to prove I have had one.

Oh found a great big toad in the pond yesterday and promptly got it out. In the evening about 9.15 we were out looking in the pond and he saw it again back in the pond. Worried that he may try and hang on to his kio he got the net and tried to catch it but missed and he went under the decking covered bit of his pond. Disgusted he went indoors to go to bed. I said if I saw it I would have a go at catching it and off I went to close the chickens in. When I got back I looked across the pond to where we had seen it before....... nothing........ then looked down and htere it was straight in front of me at the edge of the pond. Rushed round to get the net and caught it in my first swoop. Had to take it round to the bedroom window to prove to oh that I had caught it. After that I placed it down by the big beech tree at the end of the pond garden and hope he had a pleasent night among the ivy and ferns down there.

Just remembered........Chocolate spread that came in a waxed carton with a screw top and it was lovely in sandwiches. Really dark and you can't seem to buy it now :-( :-( :-( :-(

I do't like the modern ones and they seem to be mostly milk choc. Yuk :-| :-| :-|

Frank

Frank Report 13 Jul 2012 11:17

Morning all,

Yes Mel, the chocolate spread, was rather good. It came in the same type of pot as the "RADIO MALT" and VIROL came in during the war.

A chap up the road from me wears a trilby,he looks totally out of place, these days. Most men like me go bare headed. In the snow I do were a bobble type hat though.

The Saga continued through the night. I finally went into be about 3.30. Tossed and turned and looked at the clock every half hour or so. I drempt quite a lot too. One little dream, I was helping two people empty this big house, and was told to take anything I fancied. I had gold and silver pots and antiques everywhere.!!!! and made a fortune selling them (I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY)

I have flowers on my Runners, will have to go and see if I can beat you with perhaps an half inch one <3 <3

Jane Report 13 Jul 2012 11:42

I don't think I remember my Dad ever wearing a hat of any kind.Possibly he did when I was a baby.I will have to have a look through some of the old photos.

Mel I bet Mr Toad will find his way back to your pond lol

I have plumber coming between 1 and 5.Hopefully this time they will manage to discover where the leak is.Now.........do I empty my unit again??????

Annx

Annx Report 13 Jul 2012 11:47

Morning All,

Well it is drizzling here after raining a lot of the night I think. I slept better last night........must be because I'm a year older!!!! :-S lol. Frank I hate it when you just can't get off like that. I've heard of lettuce being good like Mel says, also turkey, so a turkey and lettuce sandwich might be good too!! I hope your knee is calming down now after that jab in it.

The only time I remember seeing my grandad on dad's side he was wearing a Trilby.....oh and a white silky muffler/cravat. OH still has a few old ones he doesn't wear any more. I used to tell him he looked like Inspector Clouseau!! lol. They did quite suit him though. Mum's dad always wore a flat cap outside and he would sit in his chair inside wearing a shirt with waistcoat and gold pocket watch chain dangling. He always had a moustache too, one of those combed straight down ones about an inch deep!! Mostly he seemed to spend his time there filling and lighting his pipe and then knocking it out. As a little girl, aged about 5 it looked more bother than it was worth to me.

We are off to another bargain OAP carvery today at a great western hotel, lovely old place, used to be a manor that was derelict when I was a teenager. Then on to look at a few charity shops on the way to MIL's and more saga about the car insurance I expect. The bark we put down in their garden seems to be doing the trick anyway and we thought they'd try and thin it out as they never put these things thick enough themselves, but they have left it all in place.

I hope the plumber manages to locate and fix your leak soon Jane. It seems to have been ages now since you found the damp.

Well toodle pip for now......better get the wet weather gear on and an umbrella.!! :-|

Frank

Frank Report 13 Jul 2012 12:23

Yes Jane we all hope they find the trouble. It does seem like a pipe leaking somewhere. You would have noticed it, if you had been on a meter. When we had a leak, my water bill was over £1,000 from the meter reading. They found the leak under the drive by the kitchen window. Repaired within 3 weeks. TWO weeks later, my Neighbour had a leak in the middle of his front lawn. They had to dig that up. When they replaced the lawn it had a big hump in it. It has sunk quite a bit now, but still shows.

Ann, When we were "TEDDY BOYS" we wore "CHEESECUTTER " flat caps, and white silk scarves under our overcoats. What a sight we must have been !!!! Fag hanging out of the side of our mouths. We would be able to get into adult films at 15v years ols !!! Enjoy your OAP carvery. at some of the prices, it's hardly worth cooking. The trouble with me I always have a couple of pints, and that pushes the price up. :-D :-D :-D But I do enjoy it !!!!

Might be back tonight when we get home from Toddington. Enless in the mean time I have something else to say ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Many years ago my late Mother had a chiming clock that she loved.
It had 2 key holes needed winding, one for the clock, the other for the chimes.
It chimed on the hour, the half hour and the quarter hour.

If you hadn't fallen asleep by midnight you would hear it chime-ding dong ding dong, ding dong ding doong ding dong ding dong (how many's that) ding dong.

Morning all,

Just a quick hello, not feeling great tonight. Been a tough day.

Ann so pleased you enjoyed your day out with OH. I like the sound of this Erasmus too. Thanks for the photos. As Mel proved with that toad, if you want something done properly ask a woman to do it. Have a nice lunch today.

Jane fingers crossed this plumber will sort out the source of the leak. I can imagine your frustration.

Frank I hope the pain has eased in your knee. Those bl**dy injections are killers. I had them in my shoulder a few times and gave more than a squeal. I don't fancy have any more any time soon.

Maureen sorry to read your daughter was sick whilst on their honeymoon. I hope she is recovered. It is awful to get sick in a foreign country.

Morning to Pat, Mel, Sheila, Shirl and everyone else. I might go and watch some tv now. Night from me. 9.50 pm AEST

Kim,
Yes the knee is a bit easier this morning, but I am not doing any walking, it might give me a bit of jip when I walk around.

Sorry you didn't have a good day. A little at a time is my moto. Please look after yourself.

The weather has shown a sign of improvement. There is some sunshine between the white clouds. Only a few darker ones around now.

Have opened another bag of potato's This one is a bit better than the last. All a bit bigger, and a few more than last time. I now have a barrow full of growbag compost, that I need to get around the garden, before I open any more. Do one job and create another :-D :-D :-D

Any News yet Jane (I have pm you)

David LOL .My Aunty Betty had a Grandmother Clock in her hall .It had the most beautiful chimes and a gentle tick tock.I always thought of it as being very tall, but when I had to clear her house after she died I realised that it was about the same height as me.Everything seems so large when you are a tot.

Still waiting for the plumber.
