Julia, my beautiful Polgara cost us that and more a few years ago... she was really poorly. We didn't have a pet insurance, but I did have a bank account that was *theirs* so fortunately that helped. But there was still a shortfall, so we took out a small bank loan to top it up. That was in 1999, and she is sitting at my side basking in the sun from the open patio door. She will be 19 in October. And she has more than repaid us with her love, affection, silly antics etc. We know that she is unlikely to reach 19, but she is doing well at the moment, is cleaning herself, sunning herself, still having her mad half hours, and eating well. The drugs we have to give her to keep her like that, will eventually kill her. But meanwhile, they are keeping her well and painfree, and able to enjoy what time she has with us. Her quality of life is excellent, which it wouldn't be without the meds. We are making the most of her, too.

Sending huge, gentle pats and tummy rubs to Molly.... I know she might not appreciate it from a stranger, lol, but there you go!!

Yes we would go to the ends of the earth for our pets. But when you are verging on £7000 for treatments, you do have to question your own sanity

Hello Barbra, after spending yet again, another week in residence with the vet, she has come home again. He has now given her some steroid tablets, and special medical wipes to heal the sores on the underside of her paws. This is to help them heel, and not keep cracking open, which was causing her much distress.
Hopefully, this will do the trick. I have to say that, she seems alot happier in herself, at the moment.
I could paper the down stairs loo, with the bills.LOL

Glad to see this come up, as after finishing the i***ing I was going to post.
We have been through various degrees of highs and lows, during this past couple of weeks. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
OH was due to take Molly to a specialist Dermatologist today in Coventry. But, change of plan. Last Friday, much against his will, our vet was due to put Molly to sleep, but could not do it. There is a God. Instead he gave her a steroid injection, and after a rocky start, Molly has continued to make vast improvement.
OH fetched her home yesterday, and though I am not saying all her problems have been solved, and may recurr in the future, she is doing very well at the moment.
We will just have to go with the flow, and see what happens, as we go along. I thank the Lord, and the vet, that Molly was not put to sleep.

PPS Last Thursday when the milk man knocked for his money, I was so bereft. He is due again in a while, and will be most suprised

Awww, Julia.......I am so sorry to hear about your poor little Molly. It's awful when they are ill and sometimes you just don't know what to do for the best. :-((((

I guess all you can do in these situations is to be guided by your vet. I've always found that they will give them a fighting chance but won't them suffer unnecessarily. Do they know what is actually wrong with Molly yet?

It is sooo hard - why do we become so attached to these pets of ours? And doesn't it hurt when they are suffering? I've been there, got the T shirt and the grey hairs to prove it and yet I still have animals around and would never be without them ...
