Julia, my beautiful Polgara cost us that and more a few years ago... she was really poorly. We didn't have a pet insurance, but I did have a bank account that was *theirs* so fortunately that helped. But there was still a shortfall, so we took out a small bank loan to top it up. That was in 1999, and she is sitting at my side basking in the sun from the open patio door. She will be 19 in October. And she has more than repaid us with her love, affection, silly antics etc. We know that she is unlikely to reach 19, but she is doing well at the moment, is cleaning herself, sunning herself, still having her mad half hours, and eating well. The drugs we have to give her to keep her like that, will eventually kill her. But meanwhile, they are keeping her well and painfree, and able to enjoy what time she has with us. Her quality of life is excellent, which it wouldn't be without the meds. We are making the most of her, too. |
