Am I allowed to put living relatives on my family tree?
I would also like to know of a family tree software for a PC that looks nice. I'd like it for my mum as she is not on the net.

If they have expressly given you permission to put them on the internet on this website then yes otherwise absolutely not
As for a family tree programme i use PAF which is a free programme you can download from www.familysearch.org

One thing to keep in mind.

This site offers you the option to "hide living relatives".

This means that if you let someone look at your tree, they won't be able to see people born in the last 100 years for whom no death date is given.

*However*

Those people are not hidden from tree searches. Even children will show up if someone searches for the name and birthdate, or just for a certain surname in a certain place, say.

It's a violation of privacy and it's hugely horrible if not illegal, but that's the way things are done around here.

I always recommend not putting living people in one's tree at all, or simply calling them "my mother", "my brother", "my daughter", "myself" etc., with no names, birthdates or places of birth. You know who they are. ;)

I did a copy tree for my siblings on Family Tree with all relevent people on so that they had a copy for personal use, I then removed all info of living people before putting it online.

I don't think you are breaking any law by putting on the living, only a conduct rule, think its always best to ask a person if they mind you adding them to your tree.

Yes you are allowed,as long as its replicated exactly whats freely avaliable in the public domain ,,,,what is covered by DP is to include or publish any **personal sensitive material** of that living person that could identify that person without prior consent.
