I have just seen a news item on BBC news about some unusual and picturesque polling stations around the country, with a castle for one, and a pub for another. Apparently, it's very quiet in the pub at the moment but traditionally it gets busy after about 7.00pm, when voters cast their vote then stay behind for a couple of hours in the bar.

Mine's just changed from the little adult Mencap unit at the community hospital, to a victorian school building. The school isn't closed for the day, the kids were outside playing in the playground when I went there, but the local playgroup has the day off. LOL

So is your polling station unusual or just in the local church hall, community hall etc?

Ours is dead normal, TW, just a load of paparazzi outside...tsk tsk......

Ours is the village Catholic church - I always feel I should whisper when I go.

(Am putting off going at the moment because i am still undecided!)

Are some of these in older historic buildings though? I like the Friends meeting house, if it's anything like the one here in Norwich, it'll be a lovely place.

The primary school that is being used for our polling station is a lovely old Victorian built school, formerly a Church of England School, and you can still see the separate entrances for boys and girls at the front.

Ours is the village hall - not very historic and usually smells odd!

Ours is usually at one of the local primary schools...but this time it's the local college. ...sadly it's nothing special lol xx

ours is our village institute which has recently been refurbished so there is a cafe, quite a few people were having a cup of tea before voting!!
In the past we have voted in villages united reformed church.
Our local newspaper is reporting that in one area the polling booth is the bedroom of a bungalow which the owner lets the council use for all the elections as there is not other suitable venue!!
Apparently the T****S store is also a polling station this year!!!!

Mine is in the club house of the local bowling club

I think the turnout is good this year. In the Euro election, which took a lot of protest votes, I was on my own in the polling station, no sign of anyone else, and yet they reckoned they had had the highest turnout!

Today, I had to wait! I've never seen so many people in and out as I walked down the street on the way there, then to have to wait, thats a first!

Just been watching on the local news that some people gave up their living rooms for the day, and there is even a polling station set up in a little caravan!

our is the normal community centre however, i remeber the first time we voted it was in a porta cabin at the topof the road, they still used the cummunity centre but had the porta as a extra one xxx

Well!!! They very nearly didn't get my vote! No Dogs Allowed!!!!! So I did a good imitation of Hayley having a hissy one....pmsl.......
