Women do indeed have to endure so dreadful things in the world.One thing I have never been able to understand is that female genital mutilation in little girls is carried out by women.

I just can't fathom that at all.

You would certainly have monitored a thread of that sort... it is your *style* and you would have joined in with healthy debate.

I would have been very happy to apologise to Ronald had he answered and allayed my early suspicion... but to put something this contentious up and then just leave it!!

I am not saying he is anti-muslim himself.... but I feel the way it was put up, and left up, invites anti-muslim feelings of anger... it is the way *that* party works... I have recently heard them in action, and very palusible they sounded too.....

And this post *felt* rather like that.

To be honest Daff, I was going to post the same thing when I saw it, but didn't get around to it. I often leave no comments when posting news articles to let others voice their opinions.

I'm not anti muslim, I would be just posting to show the absurdity of it and highlight the things that women around the world still have to endure.

If it had been posted by the CofE or some religious cult in America, i still would have done the same thing.

I agree with everyone's comments on this thread, which is strange in itself, lol!!!

However it does annoy me that men are expected to have uncontrollable urges which women are responsible for dealing with by dressing modestly. I personally feel that men are responsible for lots of the injustices in this world and when they realise that it will be a nicer place for all of us.

Looks like this might end up being an anti-men thread, after all.

(And I have a lovely hubby and two sons as well as a daughter.)

But I would still like to know why Ronald saw fit to take the effort to C & P this news item, but didn't see fit to state his purpose for doing so.

In my opinion, humble or otherwise... I believe Ronald's intentions were to stir up either anti muslim OR anti woman feeling. There is no other reason to use this article on these boards, otherwise.

Really pees me off to see a moslem woman appropriately attired, in the company of (I presume) her husband in shorts walking down a British street!
This wouldn't be allowed in a strict moslem country, but I have seen it in lax Moslem countries. One law for one - one law for everyone I say!!!

I'm intrigued about how inappropriate dress (obviously from what he said - only by women) can cause extramarital sex . Certainly 'ordinary' women wouldn't - nay couldn't. Surely there aren't any prostitutes in Iran? If there are - how can they stay there? Oh that would be because hypocritical religious men like Ayatollah Kazem Sedighi and his ilk have a use for them!!
I also note he says it's attractive inappropriately dressed women - so he's been looking has he??? Naughty boy! Probably okay for unattractive women then!

Promiscuous women are responsible for earthquakes, a senior Iranian cleric has said.
Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi told worshippers in Tehran last Friday that they had to stick to strict codes of modesty to protect themselves.

"Many women who do not dress modestly lead young men astray and spread adultery in society which increases earthquakes," he said.

Tens of thousands of people have died in Iran earthquakes in the last decade.

Mr Sedighi was delivering a sermon on the need for a "general repentance" by Iranians.

"What can we do to avoid being buried under the rubble? There is no other solution but to take refuge in religion and to adapt our lives to Islam's moral codes," he said.

'Disappoint God'

Young Iranians sometimes push the boundaries of how they can dress, showing hair under their headscarves or wearing tight fitting clothes.

Mr Sedighi also referred to violence following last year's elections, which occurred when thousands of - mostly young - Iranians protested against the result, as a "political earthquake".

"Now if a natural earthquake hits Tehran, no one will be able to confront such a calamity but God's power, only God's power. So lets not disappoint God."
