I started young like yuor son Huia.

My parents and I lived in rooms of another lady's house when I was a baby, we were waiting for a council house as only moved back from Dad's village when Mum was pregnant with me.
Apparently Mum had a precious jar of marmalade (sugar was rationed) in the sideboard in the living room and while she was elsewhere I managed to get it out and get the lid off, was under 2 yrs of age, and had it everywhere, Mum used to say she didn't know where to start, it was in my hair and all over me, the floor, the sideboard lol
I don't remember a thing about it lol

When our son was only a few months old I had him in his canvas carry cot. I was elsewhere for a while. When I came back I found he had filled his nappy, kicked it off, and was currently painting the cot. Like Mrs Diamond I didnt know where to start. Lovely, NOT.

I dont remember our daughter doing things like that. She merely fell off our footbridge into the river.

Never a dull moment eh Huia lol? Did you manage to get it clean or did you have to dump the cot?

Off to bed in a mo, having cooked o.h.'s pizza for him to take to work in a little while (he is on overtime today) and stripped the cooked chicken he bought for sandwich filling, the rest is packed ready for use and in the freezer except for some bits I kept out, the bones and onion and parsnip are in the slow cooker to make stock and soup, it will be chicken risotto for dinner tonight.

My dog just ate my Turkish Delight.

Why are you laughing?? This is serious.

I treated myself to two squares of pink turkish delight covered with icing sugar. Instead of putting it with my shopping I stuck it in my handbag. Arrived home took the brown paper bag out of my handbag and put it on the cupboard next to the shopping bags.

Walked down the passage and heard riiiiip tear, gulp, gulp. Ran, yes ran, back to the kitchen and saw the paper bag was missing from the bench top. Ripped up bag and icing sugar around the mouth of one labrador dog is all the evidence I needed.

Yes Liz, I got the carry cot clean eventually, but had to do son first. As for our daughter, who was about 3 at the time, Phil and I were doing something in the garage which was across from the bridge and forgot to keep an eye on the children. We heard Peter screaming and ran across. He was looking over the edge of the bridge so Phil ran down to the bank and it looked as if Vivian was just standing in the river, not much of her under so he stepped in and was immediately up to his waist! She was apparently standing on the branch of a willow, under the water and holding on to another branch. We abandoned what we had been doing and I took her up to the house for a warm bath. It was ages before she said anything to me. I was showing her through a magazine commenting on the pictures and there was one of a beautiful meal, so I asked her 'what will we have for pudding tonight?' She then spoke 'chocolate pudding'. Chocolate pudding it was.

Oh Aunty S, I know how serious that is, I love Turkish delight too. You have my sincere sympathies.

That calls to mind when we were young and poor, we had all our cheese, meant to last us the week, on the dining table, and I left it to do something. When I came back, no cheese, cat on table, smug looking dog on floor licking his lips. He couldnt have reached the cheese, cat must have knocked it off!
Son used to love licking the bowl out with a wooden spoon when I had been baking. I have a lovely snap of him as a toddler, doing just that, with a huge grin on his face.

Jean, I have a lovely photo of our son in his high chair, spoon in hand, he has been eating his chocolate pudding. Just a pity it is a b & w photo, not colour. It is one of my favourite photos. The children both loved that pudding. It is a self-saucing one. They didnt call it chocolate pudding, they called it choc-o-late pud-ding, drawn out. I still draw it out if I say it.

Those photos are the best aren't they, instead of the posed ones. I have some super ones of my son when he was small, they are great to look back on.

My parents would never have taken a photo like that, especially my Mum, I always had to look clean and tidy in the few photos they took. A relative sent some he had found when clearing out his late Mum's house (my lovely Joyce who died earlier this year). They are some that my parents had sent her when we were young, and my brother and I aged 2 and 4 are wearing the whitest shoes and socks and standing by the henhouse, my brother with a seaside spade in hand, the metal sort. I think we must have been dressed up for his birthday or something as no way would be so smart for playing out, even my Mum wasn't quite that strict lol

My dog never got the chance to steal goodies, I was ahead of her poor old girl! She got her treats tho, sitting at my feet as I peeled carrots was her favourite thing, snapping her jaws as the peel dropped towards her lol, come to think of it she did pinch some carrots out of the vege rack once.

Jude's dog loves carrot, cant remember any of mine eating them, apple, yes.

Daisy was a labrador and they are known for eating almost anything lol

I also had a cat who liked the odd slice of cucumber !
