Hello everyone. I have been visiting my younger sister and then OH and I went to Bournemouth...it was lovely and the weather was good, and we went all around town, found an excellent Indian Restaurant .
Army son telephoned to say that he is getting married in a register office in July and then a "proper" wedding as he called it in church next May.
The reason for this is that they can then go into quarters and as he is an officere he has smashing quarters and it will cost exactly 10% of the money they are payiong for the rent on the house they moved two a few months ago.
The civil service is going to be evry small both sets of parents and his twin brother and her two sisters and parents......
Time to go shopping me thinks!
The church wedding will be somewhat different so just as well I have come back ti work !!!

Bridget
who now has to try to loose a lot of weight!!!!

Hi Bridget, your son and future d.i.l. have their heads screwed on, how lovely that they will have nice quarters to live in while they organise the big do for next year.
I too am trying to slim down a little ready for the wedding at the end of August, latest thing we were told was to have a big breakfast before the ceremony at 12.30pm as the buffet do is not until 3pm to allow for photos and travelling the 8 miles back to the hotel. It's all on a very tight budget so o.h.'s son said if you get hungry later Dad you can get nice bacon rolls at the hotel !!! Says it all really, I think I will take a large goody bag of snacks lol

How exciting that you will have two special occasions to look forward to.
I hope all their plans go well.

Thanks for the reply Liz,

I am sure that you will really enjoy the wedding and how wise your family are to warn you abou a snack, we went to a wedding once and we had nothing to eat from a snack breakfast until about 5pm and we had driven for about 4 hours to get there having flown in from Spain!!

I have seen sons' quarters and they are really excellent, maybe they are good because he is an officer but to be honest I would not mond living in them and the facilities are also very good. Mind you I believe all service personnel should have good accommodation.

Now which diet do I do this time and what shall I wear.....???

Bridget

Just in case anyone is still interested in my joyful news here is a short summary of the last week!

1.Army son informed me of the date of the wedding when I realised that this was the same weekend as I had booked a holiday for myself, OH and my daughters two children! Now my daughter has brought up her children by herself anf really needs a rest so how could I let her down...oh the worry of talking to her was because my son had not yet told her about the wedding!

2. Twin brother of army son telephones to say how excited he is as he has met a lady who has bowled him over and he sounded like a lovesick teenager and he is 31.

3, Son number one who went to live in Spain then calls me to say that due to the recession his business has failed and the Bank are threatening to take him to court if he doesn't pay the the outstanding sum of 1100 euros!! The last payment of his loan and he has never been behind before!!!!

4 Well Army son comes to the rescue. He tells me the wedding is not on the saturday but on the Friday. He calls his sister tells the story and then she calls me and says she has looked on the internet, I can change the booked holiday to August Bank holiday week and be upgraded!
5. Well I called the company today told them the story and they were great and so helpful, so everything has been sorted for me!!

Suddenly I feel the child in all this!!

Well I expect that if you have had the stamina to read this your are either laughing at how inept I am or feeling sorry for poor old MUM AKA Bridget

Hi Bridget, so glad things are working out for you all, altho I wish your son with the money problems could have a sudden reprieve.

We too had news, the son who is getting married on August Bank Holiday Saturday called round on Weds evening to say he and his future wife are already pregnant! Seems altho they wanted to start a family quickly things happened sooner than expected, so they waited till they had the 12 week scan on Tuesday and then came to tell the news. Baby is due on 4th November so she will be around 28 weeks at the wedding, and her best mate who is bridesmaid and who she knew was with a new man of all of 6 months relationship, is also pregnant and will be 35 weeks gone, in her bridesmaid dress! Should be an interesting time, and both girls won't be able to have a drink so won't be celebrating the way they thought they would!

Hope your other son's new love turns out to be The One, just think you could be going through all this again next year lol

Isn't it great when all family members work together for the best outcome for everyone. You have a family to be proud of Bridget. don't feel flustered, take a bow, you must have done a really good job in bringing them up.

I hope that your son in Spain gets his money problems sorted out. perhaps it was one of those 'computer generated letters' automatically sent to anyone who misses a payment, regardless of previous history
I will cross my fingers that a phone call to a person who is able to make decisions will help to clarify te matter. A payment of any sort, plus a plan of payment for rest of the money owing will work wonders.

Liz, i can picture Bride and Bridesmaid at the wedding!

My niece was around seven months pregnant when she was Brides Maid at her sisters wedding, and very good she looked too!
So you have got a wedding and a grandchild to look forward to this year. You must be grinning ear to ear.

have a great time, all of you with your weddings, babies and holidays. Enjoy every minute.

Tess, not my grandchild, and I will be reminded of that, no doubt! I am not married to o.h. so low down in the list for cuddles etc no doubt! The exwife of my o.h. will be up the front, she is never backward in coming forward lol, and then the girl has a mum and a step mum, as well as a sister and 6 half siblings

You will have to think of me at the wedding as you swan off on holiday, I think you will need it after such an exciting time!

Oh Purple I laughed out loud at your description of your-self as a swan on holiday and thak you for your messages. Thank you to everyone esle who has posted replies, I feel you have all been very generous in your views.
So here is the next update.

Everyone is feeeling happier and calmer and that includes me...

Son in Spain is so greatful for the help, and I am pleased that he is feeling more content. Spain is in a terrible recession and I wonder how long it will last. Fortunatley he can also earn some money teaching English to the Spanish and Spanish to the English, not highly paid but at least an income. Sadly it was not an automatic message, simply the recession causing banks huge problems but now I have set up a standing order for the next three months and the the agreed loan will have been paid back in full.
His younger brother has offered to have him live with him in Wales, and we have said that he can stay in our flat here whilst I am working,

Future DiL has sent me a lovely message saying how much she appreciates the way everything has worked out so it looks as if I really am very fortunate in having such helpful children, although just to say it is not always this smooth, we have had our moments.

Bye for now
Bridget
