Has anyone undergone one of these? or know some-one that has, and was the outcome successful?

It's from a highly reputable US source. There are three options there, for video tutorials and a text explanation.

(The text version is the easiest way to find out about it, others. It's a little delicate so Bob may not have wanted to spell it out here.)

One of our friends had this done 2 years ago. He was in hospital overnight. simply because he was from 'out of area' and they wanted to make sure everything was OK before he travelled a hundred miles home again.

He was warned of the risk of post operative infection, but he was fine. He was thrilled at the results (in his late 50's) and is very relieved (no pun intended) that he no longer has to check out the where the loos are whenever he goes somewhere new.

The only down side (for him) was that his back 'played up' for a couple of days, but he had previously had a slipped disc.

Bob, there were others asking what you were talking about. (the first two posts before mine). My post was addressed in the first instance to them, since no one had any idea what the subject was. (Obviously, someone who had had the procedure would have, but someone else might have a spouse who did and not know the acronym.)

Our friend had it done last year,he delicately termed it a "rebore".His was very successful,he's very happy with it being done.The only thing you have to watch out for is post-operative infection at the catheter site-otherwise everything is hunky-dory.

My OH had a radical robotic prostatectomy 3 months ago.Luckily the cancer,although very aggressive,was caught in the very early stages,and
he's fine now,too. So now we know all about catheters!

You will both be fine,like DET said.It's a good thing to have done.

I'd av been turning up three days early.....!!!

Mine was supposed to be Mon the 19th then it got changed.

I can't identify, Bob, but I can commiserate maybe.

We've had a few threads on here about us women who've had bad PAPs. I'm one of the ones who lost the whole inside of my cervix to a "biopsy" (which really means "take it out", in that case).

It's a very similar principle, I think! Yours is a "bore", ours is a "cone", six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Glad some fellow sufferers showed up for you. It helps to know people who've been through it all. I've been amazed at the bad-PAP threads here -- I swear half the women I know at this site have had the same surgery I had. And we're all here to tell the tale. ;)

I realise that there are many folk through one reason or another have maybe spent many years under hospital treatment, and for me its a bit hard to put myself in their shoes, so to speak.
because maybe I've been lucky,but
in MY life apart from a few childhood operations, I've not had to undergo surgery, apart from an accident at work when I lost the tip of a finger ... so "Going Under" is a relatively new experience, even visiting the dentist gives me Gypp!!

My OH was exactly the same as you- until his prostate op.he had never set foot in a hospital as a patient since he was born,so he had some adjusting to do also.He was fine in hospital,but very pleased to come home.

Not so, they did a spinal .....

strange feeling.........but probably better that, thancoming round after a full anaesthetic.

Its ALL in the mind as they say......was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be.......in short where pain is concerned, I'm a wimp!!
