I just watched the opening of tonight's football match and I noticed that every member of the England team was singing the national anthem - except Wayne Rooney.

Surely, if he doesn't feel English, he shouldn't be playing for our team?

I agree Helen, but I have noticed that he never sings it, was he chewing gum?

Helen in Kent Report 3 Mar 2010 20:11

I didn't notice gum, just the way his behaviour signals disrespect! Maybe he was chewing too - even worse!

Most teams have the odd one who don't join in. No one can doubt his passion for his club or country.

Happy days

He looks like SHREK

Helen in Kent Report 3 Mar 2010 21:37

I think he looks sweet! But, Harry, I do doubt his passion for this country if this is the way he behaves. And if he feels Irish then why is he playing for England? Ireland have a team too. He can't be that patriotic can he.

I think it is disrespectful not to sing, and to chew gum while others are singing is as bad.
He is a wierd looking bloke, could never imagine what Colleen saw in him but there you are, no accounting for taste lol

He is happy to accept the obscene wages for playing for England tho, isn't he? I mean it's not as if he had to study hard to get where he is, just the luck of the draw that he grew up playing football well.

Hi Liz and all ~~~
Perhaps that Wayne was already playing in Everton 1st team at 16 and had been for years thought of someone with the most amazing potential as a footballer, footballers wages hmm, can't be for his looks now, sorry meow.

Hi all, I'm not doubting Rooney's talents nor do I even care about his beliefs.

I do think, however, like many others of us, that if he wants the job he should act the part. After all, thousands of us follow those rules in our own jobs that pay nothing like what he is earning!

He's ignorant,
All the money he gets paid for kicking a ball around doesnt make him upper class,,respectable or anything else .
If he couldnt play football he would be stacking shelves in Tesco or claiming Jobseekers Allowance.

The problem is they always play the British national anthem, not the English one.
Following the recent YouGov poll, at the upcoming commonwealth games the English anthem "Jerusalem" will be played if an English athlete wins a medal.
In the same poll the awful "god save the queen" polled only 12% of votes and "land of hope and glory" 32%

I did not know that ape,s could sing.

Julia

Julia Report 29 Jun 2010 16:31

I put up a post about the singing on Chat the other week, and suggested that all the England team should spend some time with Gareth Malone, before they play in any match where the national anthem is sang, as part of their training.

i certainly agree with all comments glad someone started it. He should be handed a sheet with the words he probably doesnt know them. If hes not proud to wear the shirt he shouldnt be picked.
Regarding the team is any wonder they have problems when they have so many from abroad ours dont stand much of a chance. Let us have an English team and give them a chance to proof themselves.
Ann I wonder if Rooney knows how to say please. ah ah

I don't follow the game... FOOTBALL is it?? ;-0)
But you may not have noticed, but he gets paid (a grossly indecent amount) for playing football, not singing the Anthem.
Another one of my beefs is..... WHO has the right to abuse anyone for their looks??
Certainly not me, I would never win a beauty contest..... how many of you would?

if you look at any sporting fixture from the USA,
ALL the participants sing along to their anthem and with a hand over their heart,

unlike the formula one queens (Who dont appear to know the words either) that find it easy to wave, laugh and joke throughout!!!

His playing skills aren't up to much these days, are they lol?

I think when they sort out the management for the team, especially if there is a new manager, we should all write to him (Will there ever be a female Manager I wonder lol?) and suggest he teaches them all to at least mime to the words if they can't sing and to act respectfully.
Can't really expect it of an Italian manager tho eh?

I once saw him actually speaking real words in an interview the other week,
Up until then i thought he could only grunt.
