Good Luck BrummieHelen and thank you for bring the subject up. I have suffered for years having been told I had cysts on my left ovary my periods lasted months sometimes up to 6 months and it really dragged me down. But all they offered me was the coil ! Im 49 this year and have had enough really no-one seems to care or understand . I was told the cysts are not causing my problems !but Im not told what is !! which is frustrating so I put up and shut up. Anyway trying to get an appointment with my gp is impossible ! There are massive queques in the gp for the nurses who do the gp,s job and hand out drugs asap to get rid of the queques. Smears are done very quickly no blanket no curtain no respect, but they havent got the time for that. The nurses should be paid Gp wages because they are over run with patients. Sounds like I should do something about this ! and I think I will it is not good enough.

Sarah, as Puss has said your practice sounds terrible. If I was you I would insist on seeing your dr and getting him to get you an appointment with the gyneacologist at your local hospital. When I first saw the gynea in Dec, he suggested the mineva coil for my intial probs, but after being told that I had the fibroid, I didn't want a foriegn body in there with the fibroid, so i said that I would have a hysterectomy after talking to friends on here and to a couple of people I know personally who have had the same problems.

I hope that you soon get some help with this, as you have said it really gets you down.

Sarah, I always go to the local Family Planning place for smears as my own female doctor is useless at doing mine, they always came back as needing a repeat because not enough to test or whatever. I am a bit wonky inside so she never got things right but the F.P. place always got it right first time so now I go there. It isn't right that your surgery don't do smears with discretion and privacy. Maybe if you went to F.P. they could advise you re the other problems. Personally I would speak to the Practice Manager and say you are not happy or change to a better surgery if there is one near you.

Hi Helen, just to add that I had fribroids and suffered terrible like you, I had a hysterectomy when I was 52 and it was the best thing I've ever had done, it cured me. good luck.

Good news Helen, the waiting is nearly over. You will be able to have a good summer (whatever the weather).

Sarah, you need to change your GP and complain via PAL's. Hope that you get improved treatment and feel better soon.

Good luck Helen. I had a hysterectomy in 2003. They removed my ovaries too as they found endometriosis and a cyst. I was terrified, but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought and I had no pain after. The scar I have is almost invisible now and it was the best thing that could have happened. It cured my migraines and dragging pains as well as getting rid of all the unpredictability and 'protection' expense.

Thanks guys for all the advise it is much appreciated and im sorry for taking over helens slot, I just got abit angry with the system I have ! I do really wish you all the best helen .It would be nice to hear how you are doing as I think alot of us women suffer and any advise would be really appreciated.

I suffered badly from the age of 14. I'd even collapse sometimes and was severly anaemic. It took a long time for me to conceive a child, and I miscarried my first baby, but my son was born when I was 21....and Ive been cured ever since! Ive heard other people say that after childbirth their bodies 'healed' themselves, and that certainly was the case for me. Im hoping my daughters don't suffer the same way I did.

Well everything went ok. The gynea ward manager did my assesment, she was ever so nice and went through the whole proceedure with me, from when I get there, to the day I'm discharged. I have got to ring them between 7am and 7.30am on the Wednesday, to see if there is a bed, I can have a light breakfast before 7.30 and then if the bed is available I have to be there at 9am. I'm allowed plain water upto 11.30 and I will have the op in the afternoon. If nothing goes wrong I could be out on the Saturday, Puss I will let you know so that you don't have a fruitless journey.
