I was in my back garden here in Essex

My son was 4 and my daughter was 4 months.

We watched it on the telly & went outside 20 mins before it happened, over a few minutes the sky darkened as if dark storm clouds were gathering.

After a few more minutes it grew lighter, birds started the dawn chorus !

cant believe its 13 years on !

At home in the SE - the children and I had the TV on and kept popping out to the front garden to get a look.

Not only was it the strange blue/grey light and quiet birds but lack of traffic noise as so many people had stopped or stayed where they were. The temperature drop as well and the post lady bumped into a telegraph pole instead of looking where she was walking!

We'd visited the Science Museum earlier that year, and had bought enough cardboard glasses for all of us. One of the offspring was going to stay with a friend of ours near Truro, but that was cancelled close to the date due to illness in the host's family.

Wow! Unbelievable that it has been 13 years since the eclipse. My grandson was exactly one month old, now he is taller than me !
I saw it from my back garden in East London with my son-in-law . I aimed my camera at the sky and did get a few snaps at the time of how dark it was above the trees and also as the sun appeared how bright it was. Thanks Elizabeth for reminding me of this I had completely forgotten about up to now.

We went to Leonardslee Gardens in Suseex. A really magical place let alone witnessing an eclipse there. The silence was amazing as it got darker and darker and all the birds stopped singing.

Sadly it is no longer open to the public being bought last year by someone who doesn't want it open to the public.

Yes I do remember it - it was grotty weather here (very overcast) and we had MIL and FIL staying, so I was less than happy, desperately tying to stay sane and not strangle anyone :-(

I was filming the partial that we saw in Birmingham. I had my camcorder ready to set up in my back garden. I was washing up some brand new eating cutlery and one of the knives was sharper than it should have been. As I went to wipe something off the blade it sliced across my finger. Mindful of the time I just wrapped a cloth around it and took the camera into the garden. As we lived on a corner and the back garden wasn't secure I couldn't leave the camera by itself. So I stayed in the garden and filmed the eclipse dripping blood where I stood. I should probably have gone to A&E but no way was I going to miss the eclipse. :-D

We were in Minorca with the children walking across the cliffs to the next resort
It wasn't spectacular, but when we got to the next resort they had it on TV.

My niece drove down from Anglesey to Cornwall to experience it.
