Alan Stubbs is a former Everton Captain who comes from Kirkby. The boyhood Everton supporter joined the Blues on a transfer from Celtic in 2001. The solid defender impressed the crowds with his powerful shooting and excelled during his first season at Goodison Park.

Phil Thompson was born in Kirkby in 1954. The lifelong Liverpool fan started his professional football career in 1971. He won seven championship medals and was once described by Bill Shankly as a 'matchstick man with sparrow's legs!' He spent 18 months with Sheffield United before returning to Anfield as a coach until 1992. He also won 42 caps for England.

Terry McDermott was born in Kirkby and was a professional footballer who played for Newcastle United before joining the Liverpool team. He was the first player to win the Professional Footballers Association and Football Writers' Association awards in the same year, and has 25 England caps under his belt. Winning a total of four League Championship medals, he won his third European Cup Final medal as a member of the 1981 side who beat Real Madrid in Paris.

Kevin Nolan is from Kirkby and plays for Bolton Football Club. Here he has built a reputation as an impressive mid fielder and is one of Bolton's brightest young talents. He helped the club to achieve their highest ever finish in the Premiership and reach the League Cup Final.

Margi Clarke the famous scouse actress hails from Kirkby and started her career as a presenter for Granada Television. Various television roles and presenting jobs followed, eventually leading to film roles.

John Conteh comes from Kirkby and won the middleweight gold medal at the 1970 Commonwealth Games. He went on to win the WBC word title in 1974, however he did not satisfy the boxing authorities when they ended his career by revoking his licence on medical grounds.

Ross Noble came from my home town ( comedian ).
Alan Shearer played for the local boys footie team..( a good boys team...my son played for them a few years ago ).
Sting...was a teacher at our local catholic school before he became famous.

Kenny Dalgleish, use to meet him and hubby coming from college on thursday and walk home home with them, i married hubby but no regrets, also Sir Alex Ferguson used to live up cafe close and often bought me a coke.

Robert Atherton was born in Kirkby and wrote an extensive collection of verse which caused some to name him 'Lancashire Burns.' The eccentric poet died at Pear Tree Farm in Kirkby in 1930.
