Ahh Jinky was a good footballer but like many before him he retired early due to injuries. I met him years ago,he was well liked. x

Hi Mau

That's one of the two connections that spring to mind.

The other is my NUFC hero from years ago - Jimmy "Jinky" Smith. He played in the 1970s for NUFC with Supermac, Terry Hibbett et al. From there he went to Aberdeen and then - Whitley Bay.

Last heard of driving a taxi in Byker: how are the mighty fallen.

Got to get something from the next two games.......please!

Can you think of any connections between NUFC and Whitley Bay - apart from the obvious geography?

Absolutely

This season I'm just majorly relieved we aren't fighting relegation because at points earlier this season.... I really believed we'd had it......now if we'd started as we'd finished.........who knows how different things could be !

I'm not overly worried if we don't make Europe this year........but with a few new players like you say and a following wind........I'm not saying we're premiership champion material......but I'm certain we're on the edge of it in the next few years if we can just bleedy well pull together.........I'd settle for the fa cup and top 5 next season xx

ohhh I do hope so!! if Harry stays and we can sign a couple of great players in key positions you may just be right! let's hope for a win over city and at least a draw at Anfield, and for Newcastle to stuff Fulham, and we might even get into Europe next year! that would be quite an achievement after the start we made!

I would've given anything to be there for the Ricky Villa goal........pure class. I watch it on you tube even now and it gives me chills!!!.I didn't go to football in those days....sat watching it on TV with my spurs supporting Grandad lol. I BLAME HIM for all these years of angst.

I DO have the feeling though Maz that next year may be our year......I KNOW it's been said so many times.....but.......I really feel our time is coming xx

I can just imagine Muffy lol
My mate was at Wembley the year of the Ricky Villa goal - and it was on his birthday - he counts that as probably THE best day of his life lol. I did go to the first game, the draw, in either 1981 or 1982, but I can never for the life of me remember which one! I know it was a huge disappointment and anticlimax tho and I couldn't go to the replay :-(( Wish there had been extra time and penalties in those days!
Mau, we went and did the tour of new Wembley in Jan last year, but I was gutted - wasn't told when I booked that there would be NO PITCH there! Was just sand and bulldozers! Went to the last playoff final that Gills were involved in - they won and I have to say the atmosphere was just superb. Can't go to this one tho as I will be away.

Dear Football Fans

Very pleased that you are happy with the football!

I do remember the 1991 semi-final with Arsenal and Spurs.
The final between Spurs and Nottingham forest was superb.

I have got the video.

But my favourite, was Euro 2008, held in Austria and Switzerland,
even though no home teams qualified.

For me it was a magical time. I wish I could go back and enjoy the whole tournament again.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLANT.

Hope you all had a safe journeys home and don't have hangovers!
Wishful thinking, methinks!

Best wishes
