I joined in 2003 after my mother died in July 2002 I wanted to try and find out about my fathers family who died when I was 6 years old I have found out a lot since then but one thing eludes me and that is the death of my greatgrandfather William Poole who died i think between 1889-1891, I have bought several death certificates but I can't find the right one.

i joined because my sister wanted to do family research & nagged me to go to our local archives, i cancelled a couple of times but eventually gave in. A member of staff their printed off the 1901 census form with my nan aged 9 on there and her sisters and little brother aged 1. I had heard her brother had been emigrated to Canada by Barnardos when he was about 10 and i noticed that my gt grandmother was a widow. I started to feel sorry for this little boy named Thomas who had never got the chance to know his father and was sent to Canada at a young age and decided to find out more. Thats why i joined Genes Reunited and i started & carried on with our family research & my sister is researching her husbands side!

I became interested in the family tree while helping my youngest with a school project but didn't do anything about it until I became interested in the computer. I've always wanted to find my roots because my parents and I had emigrated to Australia and no other family were here or followed us. My father has always talked about the family so I knew the names of some family members.

This site was recommended to me and I joined and put up a basic tree. Within a few days I had a message from a cousin who I never knew I had. I met him last year for the first time - it was wonderful:) I have had some wonderful help from this site and made some great friends - some I've been lucky enough to meet:) I found the chat board by accident - that could be a good or bad thing. I'm not sure:))

Hello Uzzi

I've been doing my tree for over 20 years but actually joined here in 2003 to get in touch with someone. I made loads of contacts on here, cousins of all variations and have kept in touch with many of them. Don't have my tree on here now but have made some very good mates and occasionally use the site for help:)

At first I asked OH to show me how to use the computer to find out info on herbal remedies for Equine Cushings Disease, which I did......Agnus Castus which kept him going for another 2 years........after my horse died......I found FR on the computer and met up with a long lost classmate who came over from Canada to see me.....

......then GR and I decided to look up my Dad's side of the family.......he always said he did not know anything much about his side......whereas Mum's was a close and loving family, even to Gt. Uncles and Aunts......

I did my Granny's tree with a lot of help from Chris Drake on here who had researched my Granny's rare name for 35 years back to 1702......when I showed him that my Granny had been the youngest of 13 children......he said......Oh noooo, that cannot be her, she came from a posh family, they owned butchers and hairdressers........ so I did not tell him any more.......of course, it was Granny.......

Have found out so much family stuff......mainly that we come from a long line of miners and ag labs with other things like seamen popping up now and again.......nothing notable.......but family nevertheless....

So the short answer Uzzi......was that looking for my Dad's rellies prompted me........sorry about your Dad......mine has gone now too......but not so sad anymore.....

x sally
