Lindy Report 28 Mar 2009 22:34

There are only two household chores that I enjoy, ironing and cooking.

If I could afford to I would have a cleaning lady come in once a week as I hate housework.

I do have a young woman that comes twice a year to wash the white aluminum shutters, and clean all the glass windows, she is a good worker and it takes the whole day to do it,

The rest of the time I manage one or two shutters and windows a fortnight and then am out of breathe and bloody moody with aching arms.

Lindy who needs a smaller house but the market is cooperating.

No I wouldn't pay anyone to do mine.

I have in the past been paid to do other peoples ironing and housework.

Hi Julie

I absolutely LOATHE ironing and I do sometimes get it done by a service. They come in a van and collect it one day, then bring it all back ironed, on hangers and plastic covered the next day. They charge £20 for a black bag of mixed stuff - t-shirts, shirts, jeans, dresses, tops etc

I think there is definitely a demand for it. you might be surprised what some give you though - I've known people who iron socks, underpants, sheets, towels - life's too short for all that!

Worth sticking a card in the supermarket or the newsagent's window, or take out a little ad in the local paper.

Good luck m'dear :-))

Hi Julie - I hate ironing and would gladly pay someone to do it, if I could afford to.

OH on the other hand absolutely loves ironing and would do it all, if I let him. I dont let him though, as he is still at work and I'm retired now so feel too embarrassed to expect him to do the ironing.

He says that he finds it relaxing, but I think it's a waste of time cos I iron a shirt one day and the next evening it's back in the washer!!!

A friend of mine used to iron for a rather grand household some years back, cos she really enjoyed ironing and this household did not believe in having any "carre-free" items of clothing - everything was cotton or linen!!! Blooming hard work if you ask me, but if you dont mind ironing and people are prepared to pay you for doing it for them, then go for it!!! I image you would have to calculate your charge to take into account energy bills etc.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

One of mine has someone in to do the ironing....must admit I was a bit gobsmacked when I found out lol, but I suppose if one can afford it and the need is there, then why not.

Her Lady loves doing it and says there are many who need her services for a variety of reasons and she meets all kinds people which makes the job more interesting.....some ironing she takes home with her and others she does in the persons home.

I wish someone would come and do mine but I am too mean lol

Why not if you have the cash and would rather be doing other things with your time.

Edit: Only things that get ironed in our house are work shirts/tops, as other have said hanging things to dry on hangers can save a lot of hard work.

Oh yes I dont do ironing I hang things and dont use the tumble dryer for things that may crease and need ironing . Hubby knows if he needs a shirt ironed then the steam press is there for him to use!! we are both retired so fair doos we both can use the iron press.

Julie
I am getting so tired now of the daily grind that altho I like to see my house looking clean and tidy its getting so much a chore. I would gladly pay someone to come in and do more for me,I do the basics at a pinch and would HATE someone to say I,m not coping BUT the bottom line is its getting too much. I can really see now when someone gets overwhelmed AND i,m only early 70,s

I don't have any ironing! We don't have any shirts in this house and that helps of course. Our trick is to hang the damp clothes in the airing cupboard in such a way that they dry crease-free. Now and then an item of clothing does need ironing but only if it is made out of a fabric which creases.
If you sort out which of your clothes you can simply hang up to dry, that should cut down the size of the pile you need to pay to get ironed and save you some money.

lol Cat... that is the next step... there is a drug that can be given which is sort of like a bone marrow viagra.... but it can stimulate too quickly and it can be quite painful, lol... not into pain, me!! They often use it it in bone marrow and stem cell transplants. I think I'll go along the natural conception route ;¬))

Sorry Julie... I know we are talking ironing here, and I've hi jacked your thread.

Maybe Poshpixie could give you some advice and pointers? I have a box, and all the mailshots I get, such as carpet cleaners, ironing services, garden services etc, I keep in it... just in case I need them... it might be worth doing a mailshot of your local area first?

I would if I could afford to. I have to admit that I rarely iron, I tend to use my dryer so just lift things out and fold them. At the moment it's broke but I still don't iron if I can avoid it. I also avoid buying too much of things that will need ironing. I do iron the kids uniforms though.

Daff maybe your immune system could do with some fertility treatment lolol

My Friend who is a hairdresser
has her ironing done for her , as she says
she doesn't have the time to do it .
her lady comes and takes the ironing one
day and brings it back the next all on hangers if needed
And i think she charges about £10 /£15 depending on
what has to be ironed.or how much there is ...

I'm doing well, now, Julie, thanks... in remission, and no more chemo planned, just have to wait for immune system to boost itself... it is being very slow making new babies, lol!!

My ironing lady used to collect one day, deliver the next... she priced by weight rather than item, so one super-king sized duvet cover cost more than half a dozen shirts, but well worth it!! I love freshly ironed bedding! It was a few years ago, so I can't remember what she charged, but I was always pleased with the result.
